UV Filter - Always on, or just when needed?
I'm just curious as to what people do with their SLR lenses if they've got a UV filter... Do you leave it on all the time to help protect the lens, or take it off and only use it when you think it might help?

i have one on all the time, just cause i'm lazy. I'd consider taking it off in situations where flare might be especially bad, or if I were getting paid or something for my work. But for my purposes, I like to protect my investment, and my pictures are just for my enjoyment. Plus in Hawaii, my camera ends up at the beach kinda a lot, and any additional sealing from the humidity and stuff is all the better.
I only use the highest quality ones I can afford though.

I had to vote for "never use it/Don't have one" because it's closest to my situation, but that doesn't mean I'd never use one if I had it. I would only use one if I was going to be shooting where mud/sand/sea spray would end up on my lens. Everywhere else, the hood provides enough protection for my needs.

Don't have one, never used one. I just use my hoods nearly all the time.
Bummer. But they probably don't affect your shots much, if at all.
Dust is an issue, but my guess is it comes mostly from the extending elements, not from the front.

Always. UV filters have little to no effect. Any effect they might have would be easily correctable in post. I'm rough on my stuff. I do most all of my shooting outdoors. If I were doing macro or fashion/indoor photography, then it might be a different story. Now, I don't spend near the money as some here spend, but if I did...I'd probably have 2 filters on them
