Typical gallery sales commission?

Anyone know? I'm being offered a show at 30% commission. Is that standard?

I'm unsure of what the norm is. But everything Ive read about gallery pricing has stated that they add the 30% into the price

It will definitely affect how I price things. I'm not too worried about it, just want to know if I should be haggling here at all.

From what I'm finding, 30% is actually quite good.

good question - I've had to wonder the same recently - although, I am kind of just 'winging it' lol. It's looking like I'm gonna have 2 showings in February.

Please let us know how it turns out for you, what numbers you finalized on.

So printing + framing/matting + 30% + profit to figure out pricing?

I've also heard 50%, but that might depend on how well known the work/artist is, and/or how large the showing is. Congrats and good luck!

I'm meeting the owner Friday. It's just a small little thing. Sounds like a good deal that I'm only giving up 30% to her if the standard is 40-50. Thanks for the input - puts my mind at ease about it.

Yep. Though, it may include canvas &/or metal. Yay for less framing!

Based on my talk w gallery owners ...
50% Commision is a norm but it will vary with your relationship to owner gallery and what demand their is for your work and gallery sales.
FWIW - the most successfull artists are actual gallery owners that feature their own work in a high sales area like Santa Fe.
Note - Since the economy slump many artists and Gallery owners are taking a real bad hit on profits.
Good Luk ..
