Of course it boils down to what the OP wants to take photos of. He's the one going, not me. He wanted our feedback, I laid it out. It's up to him what he wants.

A good piece of advice would be to take the 70-200 only, around his town for the day, come home after a day of shooting and see if he likes his results. Better yet, carry it all with him, as he would overseas and see if he's comfortable with the weight and so on.

This thread helped me.

I'm purchasing a 17-40 L series for my 5D.

I'll be getting a longer lense also.

any recommendation?

70-200 f2.8 is a good lens to have.

But if money is an issue, the f4L version is almost as good. It is significantly cheaper, lighter, and smaller too.

+1 It's a great lens but more weight than I would want to be carrying around while traveling.

Okay, so I pretty much decided I will be taking most of my gear with me on the trip, but will only take a few lenses out each day depending on the agenda. We're also planning to rent a car and drive up north to Newcastle and Scotland - maybe even see Nessie

Now my questions come down to accessories. I don't have any CPs or NDs or GND filters. I'm considering getting at least a CP for the 10-22. Does that sound like a good investment? I'm also going to check Sammy's for the Optecha strap extensions so I can sling my camera across my body. Anything else I should consider?

FWIW, I leave Friday, so anything I would buy would likely be retail

I wouldn't worry about a CP right now, it's good to have. But I haven't put mine on my camera for over two months.

Mo, I can fedex you my B+W ultra-slim CP for my 10-22 if you want to borrow it. Lemme know.

The downside to the ultra-slim CPL is that you have to take it off to put the lenscap back on... Kinda a PITA. I may see of I can find a lenscap that will work with the CPL... Maybe something that slides over the entire end of the lens instead of trying to attach to the inside of the filter/lens barrel.

Thanks for the offer, Stogie. Really appreciate it. But I don't think I can take you up on it. I need to pick up a couple of things anyway, so I will look at what filters they have if I decide to get one.

I used a regular CPL when I used 10-22, I don't remember it being a problem. If you have the coin, go ahead and get one, you're going to need it sooner or later. But if you can wait, order from hvstar.net when you get back, will be able to save over retail.

I got mine from HVStar, but I got the ultraslim because I thought I would get the edge of the filter appearing in the frame on 10mm shots as vignetting. If not, I may sell this one and get a regular...

No problems with it at 10mm Jup?

FYI - Filter CPL Tests

Also, I believe hvstar.net now goes by www.MaxSaver.net.

I don't remember it being a problem, if you already have it keep it.

Just to make sure, this is the correct and "best" filter to get for the 10-22?
B+W 77mm Kaesemann MRC Circular Polarizer Filter NEW

I might just have it shipped to London.

^ That's what I have, but in the Slim version. That's the one I should have gotten...

FYI HVStar takes up to three weeks for your shipment to arrive (for me at least).

Hmmm... Stogie, maybe I will take you up on your offer if shipping takes that long. I was thinking that I might be able to get it from hvstar in London before Paris, but that doesn't look likely... I checked B+H and it's more than $100 more!!

You rock, man.

I'll let you know when it gets here. Still thinking of ordering one for delivery in London. Should at least get it before leaving. Then I can have one for the 17-55, too.

No, no, no. I was going to take a pic of the 17-55 with the 10-22 + CPL.
