what do you guys think about the new LX7?
im still on the fence with the RX100 because the cost of it is so much!
http://www.dpreview.com/news/2012/07...3-24-90mm-lens
the thing i dont like about the LX7 is that they made the sensor slightly smaller.. and to get the full size of the sensor id have to shoot in 4:3 ratio

1.4 in a pocket cam!
I'll have to compare its images to the RX100 to arrive at a conclusion.

I was kind of frowning reading that RX100 review - regarding the lens range mainly (wish it was wider than 28mm) - until I saw the sample photos and got to this part:
yeah, I see one of these in my future. I also am thrilled about the 20mp.
I'm no longer interested in the LX7; it has a smaller sensor than the LX5! Not sure was Panasonic was thinking there. Also, it's only 10mp.
Here's the real reason why you'll want to pick up an RX100: the photos it takes are stunning to the point where all other compact camera makers will need to take a long, hard look in the mirror. It's widely said that the majority of DSLR owners never remove the kit lens, and if that's the case then I wonder if they shouldn't be looking at the RX100 instead — its photos really are that good. Right out of the camera images show great color depth and dynamic range, and the combination of sensor size and lens aperture allows for blurred backgrounds and low-light performance like never I've seen before on a compact like this. It's honestly the first point-and-shoot I can see DSLR owners taking along as a backup and not feeling compromised — it gives you honest-to-goodness creative control over your images like never before.

I've been really interested in the RX100 since the rumors came out

this is EXACTLY what I've been waiting for -
It's really no exaggeration to say that it produces images roughly on par with an average DSLR and kit lens combination, making this a revolutionary camera that means you'll always be in a situation where you can take genuinely high quality pictures.

just got the RX100, boy is it sweet - as it should be. it feels and looks like what it costs. there is like zero shutter lag. actually the first few times I took photos, I didn't even realize the photos had been taken - I thought it had only focused. the screen is amazing, the finish and controls are excellent.

ISO 800, no flash, no dynamic lighting or HDR, JPG. I did do some post on it with lifting shadows and clarity. I'm not shooting in RAW (the file extension is .ARW) because Lightroom does not support it yet.

There are RC for LR and Camera RAW out for it. It that just a random car? I really hate to see it get keyed for parking like that.

Its a friends car. But its not as bad as it looks, the garage is quite empty, this was late last night. Thanks for the info on LR, but I think I'll wait for the update.

this is wild, the whole time I was editing this, I thought it was the 5D3 with the Sigma 50... it was only after I saved and uploaded that I saw "DSC" and was like . My friend's car, he was shooting it with his 1D-IV last night, he saw my C63 photos and wanted to see the location - I was there just casually shooting with the RX100

Needs more Lemon Pledge
Looking for some guidance on a P+S that will primarily be used for close up pics of equipment serial numbers, etc.
requirements:
-good macro
-good enough lens to not need flash in less than ideal lighting (normal room lighting, close focusing
-price at or below $300
-size is less of an issue but nothing DSLR sized
Ideas?
Lots of cameras SAY they have macro and SAY they have a good close focusing distance, but then they suck when I turn off the flash to avoid glare and washing out details.

Amazon.
Here are some more photos.
great camera for candid photos - it's nice because it's so inconspicuous, nobody would think you are taking high quality photos with such a small camera.

I took this while stopped at a light, just leaned over and pointed the camera out the back of the passenger side window - this is cropped
