I'm die hard Canon, but the SD500 just didn't cut it for me - no manual controls. I don't care how small a cam is, I want manual so I can do cool motion blur shots without having to play with different "shooting modes". Casio provides that.
I do think the low-light images on the Casio need work, as they have more noise than I would like, but at ISO800, all digi's exponentially decrease in quality.

speaking of casio p&s cameras...i'm looking to get a new one and been checking out a couple of the casio's - ex-z60 , ex-s770. Quality of pics seem good (sis has the z60) and styling is an added bonus.
What are your guys' opinions on those n any other suggestions? i'm knowledgeable on digi cams but far from a pro like some of you..
i'd be using it for day to day stuff - car pics, outings/trips, parties, etc.

I just returned a Panasonic FX07 - horrible colors and a ton of noise, just replaced it with a CANON SD800 IS yesterday. The few pics I have taken so far are much much better than the panny. I would strongly advise against the FX07.

The movie mode was absolutely incredible. Fantastic video quality, and the mic kicked ass. I would kill for a canon to have the video ability of the 750 (including the compression)
The white balance was a little flaky though, and the wide angle of the SD800Is will make it my new compact digicam.
It is quite astounding how incredibly sold-out the SD800 is at the moment, btw.

It looks decent enough, but I'd probably want a viewfinder of some sort. Some people never use them, so they might prefer the bigger screen instead.

I just bought a "ultra compact" P&S tonight. What is everyone using for protective cases? I'm not looking for something bulky. Mainly something to protect it from being scratched up as this camera will probably be with me just about every day in my pocket.

^^Tamrac, Lowepro and other companies make a variety of cases that will fit your camera. Best Buy, Circuit City or any camera store should have a good selection.

I just ordered the Fuji F30, it seems to have good reviews (dcresource.com) especially for its low light pictures and long battery life. Plus, Fuji is currently offering a $50 rebate.

Nikon S50c vs. Canon SD800/SD750
Fellow photo nerds -
The misses just dropped our camera for the last time...and broke it...
so, the search for a new one has begun.
We are looking at either the Nikon S50c, or one of the Canon SD's
Gotta say, I like the Nikon - Slim, huge screen (3') , wifi, 7.1mp
But I've always had good luck with Canon, so I'm hard-pressed to leave.
Suggestions?
Thanks!

It's a very appealing SLR alternative. Canon must've taken a helluva lot of flack for pulling RAW functionality from the G7.

The G9 looks like a winner.
