Nikon Coolpix 995
several graduated backdrops
no-name tri-pod

For the work I do, I've never needed to upgrade from the trusty 995.

this sux.. if I knew you couldn't do this with the 600, I would have got the 800. Not that I would have been doing it a lot, just nice to have. Most of the reviews said the 600 is sufficient for regular purposes and some of them even said the 800 is a waste of money because the 600 does most of what it does. But then later I find out the 800 has a higher light output and it also does this. I will probably end up buying an 800 as well, and use that Creative Lighting system or whatever.

depending on what you sell your 600 for I might buy it from you cause I am trying to build a portable strobe setup for doing night car photography.

I can now post in this thread without feeling totally inadequate.

Old equipment:
Canon S50
Olympus Stylus 800
Monsterpod (new, haven't tested it in the field)

New stuff:
Canon 30D
Canon 70-200 /f4L
Canon 17-40 /f4L
2 non-OEM batteries from Sterlingtek that get stuck in the camera and are going back for replacement
2 x Ridata Pro 4 GB compact flash (thanks for the tip Dan)
Lowepro Computrekker AW bag

I'll be trying it out this weekend in Denver, but don't know how many usable shots I'll end up with. Then I'll finally need to setup a flikr account or something so I can finally post images.

Thanks again for all the advice and input, whether direct or indirect.

sigma 15mm fisheye you should post up some pictures in a new thread since this thread is about gear only.

nice setup by the way.

i actually considered getting the 8mm in the far future b/c i like how it distorts well, but it's not fast enough so i'm also considering the 15mm.

i saw someone on here had the 10.5mm. that is the lens i orginally wanted but due to money i shopped around and found this one. i really like it for shooting skateboarding. i'll post up a new thread on fisheyes later.

Man, that is some kind of sexy.

OH, and i'm on a XTi with a Tamron Di-II 17-50 f2.8 now, but it just seems small after looking at a 5d with a grip.

Have you been happy with the Tamron? I'm torn between going for a 30 or 35mm prime and grabbing another zoom in the 17-50 range. I've heard and seen really good things about the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8.

I havn't been out with it much yet, so far so good though. My first impression being that it walks all over the kit lense in every respect.
I'm gonna try to get out on the weekend, if I do I'll try to form a better opinion and stick it in the lense thread.

Sorry I missed this cl_jay. I haven't gotten to shoot with it much yet, but from what I can tell, I'm going to like it very much! It delivers beautiful colors and contrast. When I get a chance to use it a little more, I'll post again.

I think I paid $44/ea at B&H when I ordered the EF-S 17-55. There are cheaper prices out there, but since I'm importing this stuff across the border, I really didn't want to pay for shipping at multiple stores.
