I am going to be adding a couple of more lenses in my collection, but I don't have a bag capable of carrying 4 lenses.

Please post the camera bag you use, along with what it can hold, and if possible a stock photo would be nice too.

Currently I have this:

Case Logic SLRC-2 Medium SLR Camera Bag

It holds my xti with the 28-105mm lens in the center compartment, along with two small lenses in the side pockets(50mm 1.8, 18-55mm kit lens).

the only problem i have with my bag so far is that i cant store my camera and the 70-300mm lens attached. i have to switch it to either the 50mm or 18-55mm everytime, i tried to rearrange the velcro walls but i couldnt figure it out.

i could attach the 70-300mm lens and put it in the bag the way it is right now, but camera sits slightly outside of the bag, and i dunno it would seem more vulnerable if the bag were to get bumped.

im thinking of jumping up to this if/when i get more lens' and skill

can you set it up so the camera is in there horizontally as opposed to vertically (they way it is now). looks like you will loose some space, but it looks like you have plenty.

i tried that but the problem is there isnt enough spots for the velcro ends to meet with the felt type cloth

I've got the mini trekker that Dan posted. It's very comfortably padded & ergonomic. Has straps/fold-out pocket for a tripod to attach. :thumbsup:

yea, im thinking of getting that backpack but right now i dont mind the bag i have, just gonna be a hassle once i get more lenses

nice, that looks like it should fit my 70-300mm or even a 70-200mm f/4 in there nicely w/o haveing to swap lenses.

^^^ That my 70-200mm in it's own case. It wouldn't fit in the main bag. It closes with a little snugness.

No, does fit, but I don't leave it on my camera all the time. So I keep it in the case it came with. I have a 24-70 on the camera now.

I have a simple sling bag if I only need 1-2 lenses,
and I recently got the Kata R-102/T-212 combo for outings where I don't plan on having the laptop with me.

The DB-15C is very nice, but HUGE. I may actually bring both the 15C and the Kata combo with me on vacations. The 15C for getting my gear through airports, then just using the Kata after arrival.

That's how I feel about the LowePro Computrekker AW that I have. It's great for transporting the camera gear and laptop, but very bulky and not easily accessible when walking around. Loaded, it literally extends about 8" behind me, making it an obstacle when dealing with crowds or tight spaces. I need to get something else as a walk-around bag.

Seriously look at the Crumpler bags. I love my 5 million dollar home for day outings. It has 3 compartments inside and it's just big enough to hold a body with two lenses and a flash. There are two big pockets that can carry your cards, batteries, backup hard drive, filters, etc.

I can fit my 30D with the 10-22 mounted in the center compartment, the 430EX in the right compartment, and either the 24-70 or the 70-200f/4 in the last compartment. It's snug, but everything fits nicely. It's the smallest possible bag to carry that equipment around. Oh, you'll have to be creative if you want to bring the lens hoods with you though.

The 6 million dollar home is a little more roomy, so if you carry bigger lenses, it might be a better choice.

Update: I just purchased the case logic slrc-4 backpack from ebags.com for 80 bucks. They have a price match option, so I tried that. I showed them the price proadvantage.com is offering which is 51 dollars, and fortunately, they accepted the price match. :thumbsup:

Now I just need a couple of lenses..:smile:

The hoods are always with me. I'm too clumsy to walk around without them. I should probably find a better hood for the 17-40, but I don't know if there are any what would be more compact and as effective.

Are they sold at any retail outlets? I'd like to check them out before ordering online.

I'll post a photo of how everything fits in my $5M home tonight...

It's a bit too late now, but along with 'how much gear can it carry', equally important questions are:
'what are you going to be doing with your gear' and
'what else may you need to carry, along with your gear'

The biggest drawbacks to slings bags, imho, are:
1) You don't want to carry as much gear, since all the weight is on one shoulder.
2) The sling is 'looser' and will swing around.
Note this is reduced if you sling across your body. I.e. strap on your left shoulder,
body through the sling loop, and the bag itself is under your right arm.

Biggest drawbacks to backpacks are:
1) Large size. There are some tiny backpacks, but they look stupid, and probably don't feel that great. Thin backpacks are okay, but not short ones, which make you look like a hunchback.
2) Ease of getting your own camera out. Unless you are plastic man, you'll need to take your bag off, or get someone else to do it. Or you get one of the more unique bags like the Tamrac Velocity bags, or the thinktank rotation 360 backpack,if they suit your needs.


As far as the second point: I like to hike. After you put your gear in, where
are you going to put your food & water?

That's why I got the T212 for the kata. Not for the camera - (although i may stick a lens in there for convenience. It usually holds my food.

This is about as much as I'd ever want to put in the 5 Million Dollar Home, but as you can see, it can hold quite a bit despite it's small size.

I had to use my 30D to take the pics, so I substituted Street Spirit's Elan 7 instead. :)

- lens brush
- microfiber cloth
- hotshoe level
- Leatherman micra
- Pencil and notebook

My normal kit would be lighter than that, but it can carry more than enough for a casual day of shooting. It could hold a bunch more, but that would be getting silly. :)

The best thing about the bag, or even crumpler bags in general, is that they don't scream "hey, I'm a camera bag". It's nice when you want to go :ninja: to an event.

Thanks for that Dan. Right now my largest lens is the 300 f/4 IS but I can't really see ever wanting to bring that one along in a lightweight kit. I can, however, see upgrading my 70-200 to the f/2.8 IS version at some point down the road. In that regard, do you think I'd be better off with the $6M Home?

I've seen them at two or three stores here, but not sure where they're sold in the U.S.

Yes, you'd have a hard time fitting the 70-200 f/2.8 in the 5 million dollar home.

It looks like you can get a 30D/5D with a 70-200 f/4 mounted in the $6M home, so I'm sure a standalone 70-200 f/2.8 would fit. By the pictures shown in the review, the sigma 24-70 f/2.8 (which has an 88mm filter size) is easily swallowed by the case.
