a little "behind" the scenes.

you can kind of see how the set was lit here.

this is a pic of the other set i got to shoot at. this was taken at the seminar. It uses the more traditional strobes.

i was supposed to be able to work with Miss March 2011 Ashley Mattingly on this set, but she got "sick" or "didnt feel well" half way thru the workshop so she went home. the replacement model was not a playmate.

my guess is that "THEY" dont do any photoshop, now what playboy does is up to them

Well not exactly 50.
But they use a lot {10 or so} on large sets like bedroom or bar
piano shoots and they love MFDSLR like HBlad or Mamiya Phase One.
They also use Photoshop and Post Edits.
Nice behind the scene serries.
This is Ginger and Mary Ann from Gilligans Island.

Do you guys prefer Ginger or Mary Ann ??

Let me clarify this debate ...
Before Photoshop, digital photo, computers. Retouching was done by very skillfull and manual techniques on film {mostly negs and prints, few transparency}. It was done by pencile, dye, knife, and airbrush directly on the neg or print.
Very Hairy work that often resulted in wasted mistake negs.
Playboy normally shot large format 8x10 transparency and made 3 color seperations for magizine offsett print.
They did little if any retouching then and used more body makeup and tan in a bottle to cover things like scars and tan lines.
Fast Forward to the 21st Century ...
Its PhotoShop, MFDSLR, and almost no tan in bottle to cover peesky tan lines or tats.
They use the best models but make the best even better.

I know this has been said before, but the photogs may not do much photoshop work, but once they are sent to the HQ, they do all the airbrushing and touch up work. I have a photographer friend that I work with that shoots for playboy. He's shown me a few of his photos vs. what is actually published.

Here's an example of his work:
