Obama Inauguration Highlights

I'm still sorting through pics, but thought I'd go ahead and put up a few highlights.

The full set (still growing) is here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/moxieph...7612758878379/
There are quite a few photos in the set that technically aren't that great, but I feel they contribute to the big picture (so to speak), so they're included...

We walked in from my brother's place in Arlington (Ballston). It was a bit of a hike, but absolutely worth it.

This is the view from across the river
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/moxiephotos/3214257672/" title="Walking In by wndrlst, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3103/3214257672_7a5e79803b_b.jpg" width="1024" height="682" alt="Walking In" /></a>

When we passed through the Iwo Jima Memorial, these 2 Marines were fixing the flag that had become tangled in its cables
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/moxiephotos/3213432209/" title="Flag Fixin by wndrlst, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3266/3213432209_a0c57ab6ec.jpg" width="333" height="500" alt="Flag Fixin" /></a>

At the WWII Memorial
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/moxiephotos/3214562046/" title="Waiting Patiently by wndrlst, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3413/3214562046_a57586a648.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="Waiting Patiently" /></a>

The crowd reacts to Obama's Inaugural Address
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/moxiephotos/3213846743/" title="Jubilant Crowd by wndrlst, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3502/3213846743_7a03650cdb.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="Jubilant Crowd" /></a>

One of my favorite portraits from the day
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/moxiephotos/3213847491/" title="Pride and Joy by wndrlst, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3530/3213847491_cbf835232d_b.jpg" width="1024" height="683" alt="Pride and Joy" /></a>

These guys scored some cozy (if disgusting) seats. Security made them get down about halfway through the proceedings
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/moxiephotos/3215803812/" title="Primo Seats by wndrlst, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3354/3215803812_1ab91c7c24.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="Primo Seats" /></a>

Head to toe in patriotism
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/moxiephotos/3215893282/" title="Head to Toe by wndrlst, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3264/3215893282_e026ef5abf.jpg" width="333" height="500" alt="Head to Toe" /></a>

The crowd dispersing after the address
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/moxiephotos/3215989736/" title="Crowd Dispersal by wndrlst, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3323/3215989736_7f7a7796d3.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="Crowd Dispersal" /></a>

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/moxiephotos/3215990112/" title="A Souvenir by wndrlst, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3318/3215990112_f74b8b3974_b.jpg" width="683" height="1024" alt="A Souvenir" /></a>

More to come...thanks for looking!

Very cool shots and that you went.

Were you able to get any closer or just around the Washington Monument?

We could have, but we were around the Monument when the proceedings started, and felt rude trying to work through the crowd further, so we stopped to listen and enjoy.

How come you didn't do the "Crushing the Washington Monument Between My Thumb and Forefinger" thing?

Nice pics though. Glad you could make it and have a good experience.

I didn't realize you were next to the WWII Memorial, so you couldn't really even see the Capitol from where you were. Still, you had a good view of the jumbotron and the crowd and probably had an easier time getting out of there.

Man, that looks like a long walk - all the way from Arlington National.

And what's the deal with the "Yes girls?"

A few of mine...

I got to the mall at 8am, and the wait in the cold wasn't as bad as I expected. Spirits were high and everyone was in a good mood - this helped tremendously.

I was as close as you could get without tickets...

Me, too. Thanks! I have one of her smiling that I took right after, and it's lovely, but this one speaks volumes; and really encompassed the general vibe out there.

Yeah, we started out on the far side of the cemetery. It was a bit of a hike. We gave ourselves plenty of time if we'd been just walking through, but with all the stopping to take pics, we didn't make it as far east as I'd have liked by the time things got started. From some of the accounts I've read from people who were closer, maybe that's for the best. I felt like our day was easy. Charmed, even.

I don't know what they were about, but they were a sight to behold!

For those who haven't visited the album, I present the "Yes Girls."

Thank you! I think that's actually my favorite from the entire day. Quickly becoming one of my favorite shots I've taken, period.

Nice stuff! Yeah, I didn't think the cold was that bad in the crowd, particularly..we were shielded from the wind. Afterward, when we were walking around the mall, then walking back, the wind picked up & it felt more bitter. Maybe just because I was tired.

I'm glad your experience nearer the Capitol was a positive one, as well.
