Ugh...
Samys is taking deposits on these right now. 10% down...totally refundable. As of yesterday they had about 40 at all 3 stores...I would have been 9th on the list at my store...but cameras are received in the overall order of all 3 stores.
Im very tempted but I don't want to be out the cash, especially if I can't sell my D3 for what I want.

The other big factor is I need to know its low light ability compared to the D3...thats the deal breaker.

Why buy from Samy's when you can save money by ordering through B&H?

Samys is down the street, and while I don't LOVE them, they have always done right by me. Plus...I'd have refundable reservation if I choose to cancel...and I'd be fairly low in line.
I mean amazon is the way to go imo...but damned if you're going to be able to get one from them anytime soon.

Gotcha. I guess I'm so used to waiting that I don't care if I get something a little later than other folks, and the savings in tax from places like Amazon and B&H make it worthwhile, esp for something as expensive as the D800. Looking at a $250+ savings in tax alone.

I'm saying I'd have to pay sales tax either way.
If I he rid of my d3 I don't want to have to wait indefinitely for a replacement. Especially with Springfest 7 in March.

This was why I mentioned B&H in the first place. But if the wait is too long, it still doesn't help you. And a lot of their stuff is free shipping.
I've bought most of my gear from B&H because of the fact it's sales tax free. Between them and Amazon, I've saved lots of money.

lol... you just beat me to it
And it's ALWAYS FREE shipping for a high price tag item.
But I was going to say... it's even better when buying from Adorama's eBay Store because you get a 2% eBay bucks back... but they will never have a new item like that in their eBay Store.

I don't usually buy from Amazon... but doesn't it matter where the product is coming from? So like... on eBay (which I DO use quite often), I'll always look for sellers NOT in California (if it's a high price item), just to avoid the tax.

When CA passed that bill with that hidden bit about sales tax and local business on the net...Amazon followed through with their threat to chop all CA stores selling on amazon...they have done it with a few states.

Saw those this morning.
I am so damn tempted at this point.
Some guys on craiglist posted a wanted ad for a d3...so I replied asking him his price range...he said no more than 2500....I said good luck.
It did get me off my ass to look how my shutter count.....15,837....pretty low, I should be able to get least 3000 I think.

I might not make the swap after all.
There are 2-3 d3s for sale on craigslist right now...all for UNDER 3k...some dips hit just listed his for 2600...
I fucking hate when people devalue something and ruin it for everyone else.

D3's or D3s'.
I've seen D3's selling on fredmiranda.com for $2500 to $3000 for months now.

No one has a D3s listed.
If I list mine...I won't take less than 3k.....the camera looks new, and only has 15k on the shutter...if thats above market value...than I keep it. No harm no foul.

yea i know, but ive noticed the trend that when any new body comes out the older generations immediately drop in value because people want to dump them to get the newer bodies.
its quite annoying.
its like my 1Dmk2n. i got it at 1900 in may of 09, when the 7D came out in Sept 09 it dropped to about 1300 and then about 1100 when the 1D4 came out a month later.

You mean like the big box stores, and amazon and every other online retailer that make it near impossible for me to make a living? I feel your pain.

He's talking used market

I know what he's talking about. He is still dealing with the same devaluation that has swept the country over the last couple of years, be it his used camera, or new equipment. Did you know that you as a consumer can purchase just about any piece of equipment I sell, from Amazon BELOW what I pay at dealer cost?
