Imaging Resource published some interesting D850 facts they got directly from Japan:
While they didn't attribute it to the BSI sensor, Nikon told us that the D850 should produce the same image quality (both JPEG and RAW) at twice the ISOs as the D810, a full-stop improvement. That is, the D850 at its top "native" ISO of 25,600 should deliver the same image quality as the D810 did at ISO 12,800. If true, that's a pretty significant improvement; we can't wait to get our hands on a sample to check it out!
While Nikon contracts with a silicon foundry to actually manufacture the chips, Nikon confirmed that the D850's sensor is entirely their own design, vs. an off-the-shelf unit from a sensor manufacturer.
Nikon says dynamic range will be as good or better than that of the D810, despite the higher pixel count.

Been a really long time for this thread in terms of rumors. Latest rumors for the Nikon Full Frame Mirrorless
Newest rumors
older rumors
Newest rumors
- Modest MP count - probably 24-28MP BSI sensor (new tech with advanced AF)
- Nikon is putting a lot of emphases and effort into the shooting experience of the new mirrorless camera (ergonomics, nice grip design, image stabilization, etc)
- 4K video
- Price range between $2,000 and 3,000$
- Two Nikon mirrorless cameras will most likely be announced together, but still not sure about the combo: one full frame and one APS-C or one low MP (24MP?) and one high MP count (48MP?). At least one full frame mirrorless camera is guaranteed.
- Nikon is rumored to target the Sony A7 III with their new mirrorless camera - if true, this will mean they will use a sensor in the 24MP range and a target price around $2,000.
- The new Nikon mirrorless camera will have features/functions never introduced beforehand (not sure if this applies to Nikon, to mirrorless cameras or to the industry as general). The camera was designed with ergonomics in mind.
- At least one new mirrorless zoom lens will have power zoom (for video recording).
- The official announcement of the new Nikon mirrorless camera is rumored to be shortly before Photokina while shipping is expected to start a month after Photokina (there were already multiple reports for an announcement in the second half of 2018, see this and this post).
- The new Nikon mirrorless camera will definitely be on display at Photokina in September.
- I was told that Nikon is currently developing a large number of new mirrorless lenses and this is a priority.
- New Nikon mirrorless Z-mount - confirmed by multiple sources (could still be called something else).
- Nikon is putting a lot of R&D in the viewfinder.
- Very sophisticated new F-mount adapter - also confirmed by multiple sources.
- Two electric AF motors (no new info).

Some newer new news.
- Two mirrorless cameras: one with 24-25MP and one with 45MP (48MP is also a possibility).
- Similar body size to the Sony a7 camera but with better ergonomics and a better grip.
- 5-axis in-body stabilization
- 9fps
- New mirrorless mount.
- The new mirrorless mount will allow for f/0.95 lenses
- Memory cards: XQD and CF Express
- EVF resolution: 3.6MP
- Initially, three lenses will be announced: 24-70mm, 35mm and 50mm (I think the 35 and 50mm will be f/1.4). There is also talk about a 24mm, but it may come later.
- Pricing:
- The 45MP model will be around $4,000/€4,000 in a kit with the 24-70mm lens.
- The 25MP model will be under $3,000/€3,000 (also with a lens).
- The official announcement is rumored for the end of July (on or around July 23rd) and shipping shortly after (August 23rd).

Some more news.
meanwhile at Canon
- Over 400 AF points, not sure about the exact number, it should be somewhere between 430-450. The AF is supposed to be very fast.
- The rear LCD screen is tiltable just like the Nikon D850.
- There is a second LCD screen on the top of the camera
- My understanding is that there is only one selection wheel on top of the camera.
- The camera's "prism" with the EVF is a bit less angular/smoother when compared to the Sony a7.
- The new 24-70 mirrorless full frame kit lens will indeed be f/4.
- 8K listed in the technical specifications, maybe 8K time-lapse just like the D850
- The new Nikon mirrorless camera will have a nice finish and a very comfortable grip. The overall handling/feeling is supposed to be excellent - this is coming from somebody who is/has tested the camera.
- Most likely no built-in flash.
- The promo materials should include dancers.
- Potential names: Z300 and Z500 (not confirmed at all, could be just a guess).

yea possibly.
But there is also the rumored spec that the mount opening would be 49mm vs 46.1mm on Sony E-Mount.
Supposedly the benefit of a bigger opening is that its better for wide angle lenses and allows for faster lenses.
https://nikonrumors.com/2018/01/18/a...-z-mount.aspx/
Nikon also has patents for a 52mm f/0.9 and 36mm f/1.2 full frame mirrorless lens.

Development press release!
Development of a next-generation full-frame mirrorless camera and NIKKOR lenses — featuring a new mount — that pursues a new dimension in optical performance
July 25, 2018
TOKYO - Nikon Corporation (Nikon) is pleased to announce the development of a full-frame, Nikon FX-format, mirrorless camera and NIKKOR lenses featuring a new mount.
The mirrorless camera and NIKKOR lenses that are in development have enabled the pursuit of a new dimension in optical performance, with the adoption of a new mount. The mirrorless camera is the result of Nikon's advanced optical and manufacturing capabilities gained through over a century of heritage, as well as superior image-processing technology. The expertise built up through the development of Nikon's digital SLR cameras has also critically contributed to this development.
With this new mirrorless camera and NIKKOR lenses, we are committed to providing photographers with the ability to capture images that are richer and more vivid than ever before.
Additionally, a new mount adapter is being developed for the new mirrorless camera. This will work with the NIKKOR F mount lenses that are part of the Nikon digital SLR system, adding to the variety of choices for photographers.
Nikon will continue to lead imaging culture with the launch of this new mirrorless camera, as well as with the continued development of Nikon digital SLR cameras, providing consumers with the choice of enjoying the unique values of either system.

They had an adapter for the Nikon One system to use F mount. It was dumbed down. Af would only work with center focus dot.

my current nikkor set is all ai-s manual lenses. And at some point they will not even resemble still lenses anymore let alone have a Nikon mount.
So my hope is is they have a really awesome 24 prime that’s at least a 2.8. Then I’ll consider a switch back.

Assuming the sensor specs knocks my nuts off, that is.

One thing that people will be bitching about on the adapters...., they will be hard to find. I’m going to say for every 10 camera bodies sold, at least six adapters will be needed. And as I typed, I thinking maybe even more.
