Lotta Gear Ready for Vacation

How am I going to fit all this into a Lowepro Slingshot 200

Canon XTi w/battery grip
Canon EF 50 F/1.8 II
Canon EF-S 17-86 F/4-5.6 IS w/hood
Canon EF-S 10-22 F/3.5-4.5
Canon EF 70-200 F/2.8 IS w/hood
Canon 430EX
Canon SD800IS
SLIK Table Tripod
Memory, Batteries, Chargers, Whibal etc.

I won't carry all the gear in there on a daily basis but to get it all to California it's gonna be tough!

Cheryl just laughed at me, I had to take that picture with an eight year Sony.

- this is Cheryl - and I thought he was joking about taking all that stuff, but he's serious...good thing Jacob doesn't need much room in the back of the TL.

-just put him in the trunk camera gear in backseat.

Am I the only minimalist here? As much as I love photography I try to keep the gear down to one lowepro bag.

Way to go Jeff. You too Steve. Have a great time.

You know that you're going to have to deflect quite a lot of "pressure" if we don't see a ton of pics. Now go get your monies worth out of all that gear.

You really need a decent neck strap if you want to leave the 70-200 F2.8 on the camera and around your neck/shoulder. Optech Pro FTW.

Yes, for one simple reason: I don't want to check any of my gear in on flights,
and flights don't necessarily let you have more than one carry-on.
So it all fits into one huge carry on sized backpack. (the Tenba DB-15C)

I never went past body+5 lenses, but I wouldn't exactly call that
'minimalist'.

Jup, let us know where you'r going so the rest of us can avoid those areas. There won't be any photons left after you suck 'em all up with that load.

Damn Jup. How many sherpas are you bringing with you?

mrsteve - good call on renting the lenses. I'm also renting the 10-22 for a trip next weekend, along with a tripod/head. Just be careful checking lenses with all the sand kicking around. Should be a blast even without the camera gear.

Yeah... I agree with trying to cut down on photo gear when travelling --- taking only what you think will be most useful for the location you're visiting. It's not like you can carry all three backpacks at the same time anyway. But I can also appreciate that sometimes you just can't narrow things down and don't want to chance it.

^ So what I'm really trying to say, Jup, is if you need to leave some of that gear at our place, that's okay! No worries!

I am staying at my father in laws house. Hoping to take daytrips, with only what I need. will be going to Atlanta next week, will only take one body and three lenses. If I was going on a normal trip, I would do as most and lighten the load.

drigo, your PM's are full

They are CompuTrekker AW Plus II, they have a lot room. These might be too big for some, if so they have the same without the "plus". But being 6'5" I need the bigger bag. Oh, they'll also hold a laptop I think 15" is the biggest it will carry.

Great for transporting gear. Not so much for quick access or walking through crowded spaces. I've bumped into countless people because of the bulkiness of the pack, though mine is the non-plus.

That can definitely be an issue. I usually travel lighter if I'm shooting in a crowd; either bringing just the one body and lens, or a couple lenses in my Crumpler $5M home.

^^ Well, since both of you guys are quite tall, you could wear the packs and they would just be over my head

I just picked up a $7M Home, so I'll see how that works for carry around. Might end up being bigger than I need, which means I can throw in a bottle of water and some snacks if need be.
