Looking for new P&S - Casio EX-ZR100 Maybe

My Casio EX-Z750 P&S finally broke after almost 6 years of great use. The image quality was great compared to the other options at the time and the amount of manual controls for this type of camera blew the competition away.

I am looking for a replacement now that also has good manual controls. I have been considering the Casio EX-ZR100.

While most of the reviews have been good, some haven't.

Unfortunately dpreview.com has yet to do a review of it.

I also read that for a couple of years after I bought mine, Casio P&S's weren't good, but that they are now good again.

Do any of you have any experience with this camera? My fiancee's Canon SD700IS takes really good pictures also and has good performance, but the lack of manual controls really surprises me. Do the newer Canon P&S's have good manual controls? The S95 looks sweet but is $100 more than the Casio.

I'm pretty sure all the mid to higher end p&s' have manual control.

the Casio looks pretty good actually (from reading the specs). IMO, in the end, a lot of these p&s cameras have the same sensor anyway. The features this camera has are very similar to that of Sony's p&s' (built-in HDR and panoramic).

For me, if I was going to buy a p&s, I'd go with one that can shoot RAW... and there aren't a lot of them.

But have you looked into Panasonic/Lumix?

That's a good point about RAW. I thought that the Casio could shoot RAW but now I see it can't.

My dad has a Panasonic LUMIX DMC-ZS7. I don't mean to offend anyone with this camera, but I find it underwhelming at best. Sometimes it takes good pictures, sometimes they are downright awful even on Auto (I think it's funny that they call it Intelligent Auto). I have tried to play with the manual controls a good amount with it, but it just did not do as good a job as my Casio did. The menu is also not the most user-friendly. But I've read good things about Panasonics, and I'd be looking at a different model anyways, so I'll check out what they have to offer.

Congrats on the new camera. The D5100 is an excellent camera from everything I've read about it since it's come out.
