Let's See Your Fireworks Photos

Also what tips do you have for taking them. With the 4th of July coming, I want to get ready. I found this link, but what do you guys say.

The only ones I have are with my crappy Coolpix sans tripod, but with the lovely shutter lag. Maybe this year. Oh wait, just remembered I'm on call on the 4th. Sorry dude, no help here....

Basically long exposure + tripod. And just because you can't see the power lines at night doesn't mean they aren't there *damnit*.

One thing I haven't done that I think looks cool is using the firework light to light the scene below. Fireworks just against the black sky kinda gets boring after a while, you can't really tell where they were taken.

These were taken at Pismo Beach, California, last July 4th. What an amazing "amateur" fireworks show. The city puts up all kinds of "no illegal fireworks allowed" signs, and yet thousands of people show up with their own stuff. The illegal fireworks literally dwarf the sactioned show that is set off from the city pier. The illegal show went on and on and on ... I didn't think it was possible to get tired of so many fireworks, but I did!

I took these shots with my little CoolPix because I was afraid to take my Digital Rebel to the beach, especially at night.

Stapler do you remember your settings, lens, etc...? How long would you say was the shutter?

Hmm, those were july 2005, so I can't really remember, I've done others though with it on bulb and just waiting for 3 or 4 morters to go off.
-169984/65536 that is what flickr says my shutter speed was, I guess thats 3 seconds?

The aperature I remember playing with till I got color instead of white, or just dull lights.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/stapler...n/photostream/ I don't see it in the exif stuff though, perhaps somebody who knows what they are doing can tell.

The lens was the 50mm 1.8 mk II. I was really into it at that time.

OK, I was wondering if you did bulb. The link in my first post says f stop should be between f/8 and f/16. Unfortunately there's not many chances do try this. I think they'll be shooting some off here next week at the County Fair.

I don't know how to figure out the shutter from what they listed. Thanks for the link to flickr, I don't know why they don't send the exif with the image. I wonder if they do for paid accounts?

edit... I google the shutter speed and this is what popped up. (-169 984) / 65 536 = -2.59375

So now I know.

I always have to laugh at 4th fireworks pictures. Each year the newspaper will have a picture of fireworks from the night before on the front page, knowing there is no way to tell if it was taken 1,5 or even 10 yrs. ago.

What ISO will everyone use?

What I've read or seen in exif is ISO 100.

In which way do you get the exif data? Do you copy it into a photo program?

Dan, forget it, I just remember it's a program that installed on my computer, not just a Active X plug-in.

LKLD

d/l and install this program, it will then be a right click in your browser. This is for IE. If you use another browser just click the link and select FF.
