Great Sand Dunes'n Stuff... 56k.. WHY???

I wanted to share a couple pics I took last year while on my trip down to the Great Sand Dunes National Park in Southern Colorado. Some are better than others, after all, they were taken with a disposable camera. I think I might have a few more on my laptop so I might be adding a few more later. The pics look way better in person but not too bad here. I think my scanner is about to go.

Enjoy!

The last leg of our 4hr jouney...

38 Sq. miles of nothing but sand. Taken from the "last leg" about 10 miles out..

As we began our hike to the top, just on the other side of the river/creek... (yeah, I chopped it a little -but only for color- and it was a rough chop )

This is about 1/4 ~ 1/3 of the way up, it took us 30 mins just to get here. Sand is hard to walk in up hill! The road across the river/creek is where we started from. you can't really see it but there is a parking lot over there. The river is cool because it's only 2"~1 1/2' deep and the water is constantly changing directions the entire time forming the sand. You can actually watch the water change directions. It's really neat to see in person.

All in all, round trip to the top and back down took 2hrs, 20 mins of course is all it took to get all the way back. They said they are about 800'-900' high I think. Next time I'll bring a cheap snow/sand board to slide down on! AND my digi cam's memory card!

As I said, I think I have a few more that I'll upload later...

This is a pic I took also on a throw away in the evening, off of my parents deck. Facing west in CO, you can see the mountain tops. I think it turned out to be an awesome picture. I'm not sure why it uploaded so small. It was the exact same size as the ones above.

We spend at least 2 weeks a year in CO hiking. It is hard to take a bad picture with all of the scenery.

Taken from Fall River Road in Estes Park

Taken from The Key Hole during the Longs Peak ascent

Taken from the Pikes Peak Summit
