I went for a yes because that is what he put in the rules. I'm not a particularly big fan of HDR and in most cases I wince and throw up in my mouth a little. I can't stand that over done look where there is a halo effect around each differently exposed section of the picture, but when it's done "right" (as if there were such a thing with art) it doesn't bother me so much. If it just makes the picture look closer to what I can see with my eyes and not like Half life 2 I can dig it.

IMO HDR gets such a bad rap because people use it when it shouldn't be used, they take any piece of crap photo and run it thru photomatix with all the sliders set to full.

And hey no chit-chat!!

Voted no Rubin. I think HDR shots should be a contest all their own.

^^Also not a big fan of HDR in general. Most examples I've seen are way overcooked, though I've seen many that are tastefully done as well. Some of your shots come to mind. I guess I'm a purist when it comes to this.

looks like this is serving more as a "feeler" for what people think. its more divided than I thought it would be.

as suggested earlier - gonna leave it up to the creator of the contest - I think I was just curious what everyone thought -

me personally, I voted yes - just because I do think its up to the creator.

regarding HDR, it surprises me that the "wild" stuff is still rampant and popular.

I voted yes, simply because it was mentioned in the contest rules. I still think the contest rules should be up to the creator.

It seems to me that when I comes to post processing in general, people tend to err on the side of overdoing it rather that being subtle (the if a little is good, then more must be better mentality). I think once you realize that less is more, your final images improve.

HDR really seems to lend itself to people overdoing it. It can either be really good, or really, really bad.

Contest 33 specifically? Yes - because the contest creator specified HDR as acceptable. Would I like to see it carried forward in every contest? No. So, I voted no, but I'm qualifying it.

Some themes tend to benefit from HDR and this is one of them. It was the OPs theme and decision to include HDR, so it should remain.

That said, I wouldn't mind if future contest themes excluded HDR or just made it unnecessary or undesirable.

If you don't like HDR, don't vote for the HDR photo.
