Clever things to do with your digicam

Since digital pictures are 'free', it's good to think out of the box and do useful things with your camera.

For example, since I put comments on my page, I try to take extra pictures of any signs that explain what things are/where I am. Good for reference later.

Also if I go to a place where there's no paper map, but there's a map on a wall/board, I take a picture of that and use that. a bit awkward but it works.

I was thing if something happens on your computer where an error pops up on your screen very briefly, maybe you can shoot it in moviemode and then find the frame of the movie with the error?

Also when taking apart the computer (or anything) it's good to heavily document where things were before you start pulling stuff out.

A picture is worth a thousand words, so it's easier to take a picture and then show it to your friend/doctor/mechanic/etc than describe it. Not to mention the audio recorder for strange sounds.

good thread.. I use them as disk drives once in a while - like transferring files from one computer to another.

My Small casio 750 has a cool audio recording mode. (44 hours on a 1 gig CF!)
I've been dreaming a lot, so recently I've been keeping it by my bed at night. If I wake up and remember my last dream, I dictate it into the camera before I forget it.

If I'm awake more than 5 minutes, i pretty much forget the whole dream. Rough.

When I was bumming around England I would either refernce a map, or shoot landmarks or maps as you said. To be able to know where I took the pics later.

I also had a small notepad/pen with me.

I know the handgrips and stuff have voice memos on them now.

Resurrecting an old thread! Woo hoo!

I was doing various things during my Hawaii trip so I thought I'd list them:

1) Take pictures of web pages for reference later (when I had no web access)
2) Take pictures of the map on the GPS when I wanted to remember where I
shot/found something. I did this a lot, since I tend to drive randomly and explore.
3) Took pictures of menus since I could never remember the hawaiin names of food.

Oh, this didn't happen in hawaii, but when I had shingles on my face, I was taking pictures of my face every 8 hours or so for comparison, so I could monitor how fast the shingles were spreading (verdict: FAST).

I use it:
- for taking pictures of my parking spot in relaiton to other landmarks when i'm in a new area.
- on vacation, i take a picture of a white card with my name, phone number email address and a reward if found at the bottom, in case someone finds my camera.
- to take a picture of a restaurant or something i'd like to go back and visit.
