Canon T4i

Hey guys, me and a friend are getting into filming short video clips and eventually commercials and full features..

I wanted your opinion on the Canon T4i with a basic 18-135mm lens as a starter camera for our purpose (filming), or any equivalent camera + body for around $1000.

commercials and features...fuck no.

I'm actually beginning production for 3 weeks this Monday on a web series...and the producers own and are providing these damn things for me to shoot on...not really thrilled about it. I asked about using my D800....they want to keep it all matching. ugh.

The smaller consumer cameras are such a pain in the ass, and are limited compared to the pro-sumer/pro line.

Your friend would be better off going to costco and getting the 7D kit with two kit lenses for $1500.

Thanks David, your conclusion on the T4i is basically.. difficult to work with and limited lens options right? I'll check out the 7D. Any lenses you could recommend for general interior/exterior shooting that's budget minded, or would the lenses that come with the 7D kit be doable?

I think to start the kit lenses would work fine...if you're outside the fact that the lenses are only 3.5-56 shouldn't be an issue.

It all depends on what you want to shoot. I know the Tokina 11-16 is very popular.

I've been shooting a lot of interviews lately...so I like the 70-200.

If I had the money I would add the 24-70 to my stable of glass. But I havent ever really needed it.

So, start with the kit lenses....see what you're shooting...and what you feel you use the most, or are missing. And then start looking at getting better/faster versions of those lenses.
