Canon Speedlite 430EX II flash
http://www.dpreview.com/news/0806/08...non430iiex.asp
Canon has today announced an update to its mid-range Speedlite 430 EX flash - the Speedlite 430EX II. The new model offers 20% shorter recycle times, a silent recycle process to minimize distraction and a new quick release and locking mechanism amongst other new features. When attached to an EOS camera the Speedlite 430EX II detects the sensor size and adjusts its angle of coverage accordingly.

i kind of dont like how on the new speedlites they got rid of that switch for master and slave.
i guess it was kind of annoying accidentally switching it to slave or whatever, but it was much quicker than having to press a few buttons.

The faster recycling time is good, but I still prefer to hear the flash recycle so I know when it's ready. I know the pilot light will turn on, but an audible indicator is much better when the flash isn't in the shoe.
They also removed the slave switch from the back and put it in a custom function. That's a step backwards for anyone who uses an ST-2 or 580EX to control their flash groups. I do like the new foot lock, but surely there must be space somewhere on the flash to put that slave switch back.
One feature I really wish they would add to the 430EX is the rotary power dial that the 580EX has. The current +/- button setup is pretty slow and clunky if you shoot with the flash in manual. It's fine for a simple EC adjustment though.

I think you were typing your last post at the same time I was working on mine, so sorry for the duplication of much of what you said.
