Bird Pictures

I recently went to a place called Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge as well as the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore and the National Zoo in Washington, DC to take pictures. While at the zoos I also look around for other natural wildlife, you'd be surprised what you find in the middle of large cities. Here are some of the better shots of birds I've taken at these locations and other locations recently.

Red-Bellied Woodpecker (National Zoo)

Juvenile Robin waiting for mom to bring food (National Zoo)

Frog in a Lilly pond (National Zoo)

Juvenile Baltimore Oriole (Maryland Zoo)

Juvenile and Adult Baltimore Oriole (Maryland Zoo)

Eastern Kingbird (Bombay Hook NWR)

Great Blue Heron (Bombay Hook NWR)

Eastern Towhee (Howard County, MD)

Eastern Bluebird (2 shots - nesting in my backyard)

Here is all the technical info for those that asked. I'm not sure why the EXIF didn't carry over from Flickr.

All the pics were taken with the Canon EOS 7D with the Canon EF100-400mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens set at 400mm.

Woodpecker: f/5.6 1/200 ISO 400, hand-held from about 8 feet, pic not cropped (6 feet is about minimum focal distance for this lens)

Kingbird: f/8.0 1/200 ISO 100, camera rested on car window from about 30 feet, pic cropped

Juvenile Oriole: f/9.0 1/320 ISO 200 hand-held from about 8 feet, no cropping

Juvenile Robin: f/5.6 1/80 ISO 1250, camera on monopod in dark conditions, pic is cropped

Bluebird in tree: f/5.6 1/1250 ISO 200, camera hand-held from about 30 feet, pic cropped

Great Blue heron: f/8.0 1/400 ISO 100, camera rested on car window, pic cropped

Frog: f/5.6 1/250 ISO 400, camera on monopod from about 6 feet, pic not cropped

Nice, I wouldn't be able to tell what bird is what.

The group I was with weekend before last, in West Va., they saw a male and female bluebird, they freaked out a little trying to get a picture, but never could get close enough for the lenses they had on the cameras.
