Any experience in taking photo gear on a cruise ship?

I'm not sure if I should bring all my gear with me on a cruise because of all the stories I've been hearing about thefts on thes ship.

I'm pretty sure we had a similar thread recently.

IMHO, keep it basic. Maybe two lenses and a flash, tops.

Don't ever leave your sheit unattended, this applies to any environment. I'm surprised at how often I see it, and I always alert people when I see it. Heard of a number of people having their cameras stolen at the events I go to. On a ship, even if you lock it in the room, hide it somewhere in there i.e. not out in the open.

I took my camera and 2 lenses last time I went on a cruise. If I ever left the room without them, I put them in the room safe.

I took my 50D, sigma 18-50, and rental canon 70-200mm 2.8IS and it was the perfect setup for my needs. I took the 70-200 into the shows and took pictures with no flash, turned the lcd off, and got some awesome photos!

I just went last month.

I left mine out in the bag out on the couch when I wasn't in the room. Along with my iphone, my wife's ipod touch, and my anxiety meds and nothing was ever touched. Honestly, I would expect my meds to be the first to disappear. I am too trusting in some situations.

Gravol and some stretchy pants to accommodate all the good food you'll be eating 24/7.

I treat my camera gear exactly the same no matter where/how I travel. Unless it's locked up somewhere safe, it basically never leaves my side.

So I don't have any real hesitancy taking it anywhere, cruise or no cruise.
