The Acurazine photography X-mas gift thread

Jup's comment in the HP Kiosk thread got me thinking. How about an AZ photo Christmas gift list. Let's consider camera bodies, lenses, flashes, and point & shoots as givens. My thought was that there are a ton of cool and/or useful photo accessories out there that people either don't know about or simply forget exist when the time comes for making Christmas lists.

Below are some of the things that popped into my head. What else?

Bryan Peterson’s “Understanding Exposure” book

One of Scott Kelby’s Photoshop books (IMO, everyone should own one of them)

Coffee table book from one of your favorite photographers
My personal choice “Galen Rowell: A Retrospective”

Cable/remote release for your camera

Camera straps are highly underrated - Like a good Optech Strap.

'The Pod' (www.thepod.ca)

For those with SD cameras, Sandisk's SD Plus cards with the built in USB ports are
wonderful. I've been hoping they'd make a CF version.

I usually suck for Christmas ideas for myself, because I tend to buy gadgets all the time. Anyhow, here are some of the things that I use all the time that would make for good gifts:

- Photoshop Lightroom
- remote shutter release (wired/wireless/or timer)
- 90-degree viewfinder
- external hard drive that doesn't need a power adapter
- really good AA battery charger (MAHA MH-C9000)
- 2-axis hotshoe level
- L-Bracket for your camera
- leveling base (or panning base, whatever you prefer)
- new camera strap like the Optech Pro Loop Link

I'm sure more will come to mind...

I now have 3 remote releases for my bodies: a wired clone with a clamp plug (80n3 style), a wireless with the molded plug like yours, and a OEM Canon TC-80n3. They all work fine but I found that the wireless with the molded plug can slip out of the socket if you're not careful, especially in portrait orientation. I just secure it with some velcro straps or wrap it up so it won't fall out.
