I saw a cool night time pic in a magazine where the photog changed the focal length throughout a 30 sec exposure. I tried to do the same....

Ran an oldie through Topaz Adjust and Color Effects Pro with somewhat pleasing results.

from our balcony in Vancouver.... what you see at the bottom is normally a park, but for the Olympics, they've turned it into this festive thingy... with two big screens that show games (when there are games going on), and at night, there's live concert and usually ends with fireworks (@11pm), it doesn't bother me, but some of the older tenants are pretty pissed.

as the sun starts to set, more and more people show up at this event to watch games/concert

the taller building to the right is where our pad is at...

good to see blurbs about the photos, feel free to share any accessory info about the shots. something that was going on in your head when you were taking it, some special circumstance you were in, some special story behind the pic, anything like that.

well here's the answer -

first digicam I got in 02, nikon e4500. Look at the size of that LCD lol. Gonna see what this thing can do, it has some surprisingly good IQ for being 8 yrs old p&s. 4mp.

it's a 7.85-32mm lens, f/2.6-5.1.

it also has a 3:2 mode. which I'm now using.

Interesting that the sensor in that thing was 1.5:1 . I wonder when exactly 1.3:1 became the de-facto standard for digicams?

I misspoke, it's 4.1mp.

I just checked briefly on Amazon, they are going for as high as $499! none on ebay.

all good.

this is actually a newer "old" digicam, I mean the hallmark Nikon was the Coolpix 995, and the 800 was before that.

I'm surprised by all the options in the menus, it's stuff I've never seen before lol. Lots of settings you would not expect to see on a P&S. Seems like they really simplified them as time went on.

if you are curious, you can see all the menus and options here:

The filter/accessory threads on the swivel-body Nikons made them pretty popular with the amateur astronomy crowd. There were a few companies that actually made telescope eyepieces with matching threads on the top for the purpose of afocal imaging. See the two EPs on the left.

This was taken with my Coolpix 995 using one of the William Optics DCL 28 eyepieces shown in the post above.

5D vs Coolpix 4500

only processing = color correction, resize, sharpen

kind of like the color on the P&S, but the DOF on the 5D is definitely shallower, which imo isnt so great for that shot.

yeah not the best example, I just felt like taking it because I knew exactly where it was and the weather conditions were similar.
