Fixed.

There are some very excellent images in this contest, but not that many that IMHO truly follow the theme. Based on my interpretation, the sky should be the main subject. For that reason, I couldn't even vote for my own image

what else would it have been based on?

but i was thinking the exact same thing as i was typing my initial message...lots of good shots, very few that were good enough for this theme, though...

ironic part is, not long after this poll started and everyone had no votes, yours was the only one with a vote...

Sometimes people vote on what picture they think just looks best, instead of which photos fit the contest best.

I know.

I've solved that issue by no longer voting at all in contests that I've entered.

Interesting. When I first saw this thread I was tied with badboy at 9 votes each. Since then (and after I posted about mine not fitting the theme) I haven't received any votes and he's taken a comanding lead.

That's no solution. If none of the contestants vote, there would be very few votes cast. Just like in politics, even the candidates vote - usually for themselves I suspect.

I'm actually starting to think that the poll thread should have not allow additional posts/chit chat. It's like running poll results on the news before voting is over.

Note to self: Do not discuss the likes or dislikes of your photo in the voting thread.

I will say this: there are a lot of good entries in this contest.

Also, now I join a select few who know the feeling of leading a contest at one point. I must say, it feels kinda cool.

Let the voting continue.

[Wiscbadger]Damn. I thought I had a chance in this contest, but I guess not. I'm going to wallow in pity for a few days if I can't get some friends to sign up and vote for me.[/Wiscbadger]

Seriously, there is no way it should have ever been that close.

oh I agree totally. and I've considered bringing it up numerous times in the past but each and every time the non-seriousness of the contest silences me. There should not be any comments until the contest is over.

nice badboy. now that its over, I wanna say something about subject..

I think what this contest has shown us is how little we take pictures of JUST a dramatic sky. It just happens that more often than not, the sky functions as a backdrop to something else - and if its a dramatic sky, it just makes the picture of that subject look that much better. i.e. a cloud-filled sky makes a picture of a car look insurmountably better than an empty sky (there will always be exceptions, though). And from a framing and composition viewpoint, I think it makes sense that you would include other elements in the picture, along with the sky. I think there are only a few circumstances where you would present the sky as the sole subject of the photo. Maybe a certain rare cloud formation, or a tornado, or something of that nature.

In badboy's case, palm trees.

^Completely agree! The amount of drama in the sky weighs heavily on my decision of how much sky to include in a given shot.

THanks

Speaking of the next theme, I need you guys to tell me if it would be too harsh to state no HDRs in the next contest. I like looking at HDRs personally, especially the less noticable ones but I feel like they have a slight advantage over a single exposure image. What do you guys think?

Also, I think some themes are more suitable for HDR over others. For those themes perhaps HDRs should be allowed?

Your contest, your rules. If you don't want HDR's then you can exclude them. If your theme could take advantage of HDRs, then include them. Entirely up to you.

It seems that that HDR is/should be excluded from unless expressly written into the rules. And it's up to the previous contest winner to write the rules.
