While this thread is still at a level way below stogie's contest, there is still quite a bit of fail here.
Nice entries everyone. This is going to take a few reviews before voting.

Hardy Har Har Har... I hope you all buy ice cream , place it in your trunk for the drive home, and forget it's there until it melts all over the place.

Yeah. There was almost 2 peacocks... I had an entry that looked like it was the same one Dom photographed. I spent 20 minutes chasing 2 garter snakes around in the grass trying to not enter a bird... No luck.

Alright - I just gotta know. Is that lion even real? It just looks too perfect, kinda like a display in a museum or something. We all know lions don't really live in the jungle, much less a lush rain forest which is what this appears to invoke. If he's real, how exactly did you get that close?
While I think the photo is great, the sharpness is fantastic - but again wondering how you got that close with such a sharp lens - doesn't it kinda defeat the purpose of the theme if it is a static display somewhere? I mean, yeah it's wildlife, but doesn't that mean something like let me see what kind of pictures you've been able to capture trying to find something in it's natural setting?
Bash and flame away if necessary. I just had to ask. Was I the only one thinking this?

to me the lighting on its body has always seemed off compared to the lion's face...in fact it looks like a freakin grizzly bear's body more than a lion's...

The lion is real, it's at the National Zoo in Washington, DC. This was an early morning shot. The sun was coming through a small patch in the bamboo background and was only illuminating his head. You really can't see his body at all, that is all his mane. He is looking at a bird that landed in a tree about 10 feet above his head, it was really pissing him off. Right after this shot he got up and tried to chase it away.
Granted the setting is not what you'd expect to see a lion in, but the bamboo is better than a concrete wall. A 100-400mm lens helps get up close, and my post-processing skills need a lot of work still.
Hope that helps.
Ken

What 1 missed link and a blown [/b]
This poll was huge. I think it was one of the largest turnout we ever had for one of these contests. I think 2 minor mistakes isn't that bad.

Well thanks for everyone that voted for my pic.
I guess it's up to me to pick the next topic. I've got a couple of ideas, let me bounce things around a bit for a day or two and see what I can come up with.
Based on some of the comments during this contest I take it that many of you felt that a month was too long, is that correct? Some of my ideas might involve people going out to find something, so is two weeks long enough, or can we go three an keep people happy?
