Acurazine Photo Contest #28
The theme for this contest is: "Power"
This is wide open - pretty much anything goes, within the standard SFW content of course. Whatever you can capture that evokes a sense of power in any form is acceptable. Should be interesting to see what people come up with.
The rules for this contest are as follows:
Addendum 02/12/2009:
-NO CAR PHOTOS (!)
-The subject can be anything you deem acceptable, except cars.
-You must be the person that took the photos. Previous photos are acceptable as long as you are the one that captured the image.
-One submission per contest.
-Images must be no larger than 900px in any direction. Links to larger images are allowed but you must have one that is under 900px for the poll.
-All contestants must host their own pictures.
-All pictures must have a title.
-While post processing in photoshop is allowed, adding or removing parts of the picture is not. In the event a photo is suspected to be "photochopped," the contestant will be asked to provide the original picture.
Important dates and poll info:
Entries must be submitted to this thread no later than Sunday, March 15th at 6pm PST.
The poll will start on Monday, March 16th. Multiple votes will be allowed.
The poll will close on Monday, March 23rd at 9pm EST.

"Firefighter power!"
they were doing a demo of how fast a dorm room burns to a ground
I really liked this because they needed a team for water it down. One guy to hold down the hose and other as a back up.
(takes about under 5 minute to completely burn, about 8 mins with a silly sprinkler system.
Too bad this year they screwed up the nice blaze it was all black something really melted bad.

It's good to see so many entries in these contests recently.
The next thing I'd like to see us try is to take new photos for the contest instead of pulling gems from the archives. It's great to see everyone's best photos from all time, but it's much more challenging and personally rewarding to force yourself to capture a new photo for each contest. You learn so much more that way.

Dan I try to do the weekly challenge in other groups in flickr or forums, but I think a week is too short for a group that is already full time working. I do hate pulling up old stuff, but even searching and picking a photo requires some time to thinking.
Maybe it will work out if we tried a 2week thing haha...

Okay, a few people now have expressed an interest in adding a "no cars" clause to this contest. I think it's a great idea as well however before I do that I'd like to put it out there to the masses.
So whaddya think? No cars?
Note: Tlinsc would be an exception since he's already posted his entry.

Alright. After much thought - and the lack of any objection here - I'm going to add the "NO CARS" stipulation to the rules of this contest.
Mods - Can you update the first thread to include "No Car pics" to the rules?
Thanx.

Ahhh, can't really agree there. C & P is in a forum where you'll rarely find a discussion about cars, or anything that remotely resembles intelligence for that matter.
Think about it, it's also a Acura board. The majority of the people in here don't even own Acuras anymore.

Long story short, about 2 years ago, I saw a plume of smoke in the sky and I followed it. When I arrived at the scene, I showed my camera to the cops that were blocking the road and they let me pass. Come to find out, it was a house that was designated for demolition and they decided to torch it for training purposes. I had the perfect frame, with the tree, firetruck, kid looking at the burning house, and the right firefighter putting out the flames... Then smiley firefighter walks through the shot

That's one of the (many) things that bug me about this shot. Poor DOF aside, the firefighter walked right past when I was getting the shot of the kid.

I personally don't think he ruins the shot by any means, I just found it funny that he didn't seem to have any sense of urgency...but the demolition thing explains it.
