just 1 question though...

what the hell is the topic????

is it really just that broad?

I'm almost overwhelmed, should I be shooting door knobs or house keys or sidewalks or what?

I think the key to this contest will be to see everyday items in a creative way. There are interesting doorknob pictures, and there are boring ones. You need to think outside the box.

Using the examples you mentioned...
Cool doorknob: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nightph...her/509617493/
Cool keys: http://www.flickr.com/photos/vzozaya/1690063169/
Cool sidewalk: http://www.flickr.com/photos/drp/14364881/

That's the point.

Be creative, use your imagination, see things in a different light, shoot it in an interesting way, think of something someone else might not have thought of, think literally and figuratively, outside the box....

I'm purposely not narrowing it down to any one specific thing...that will be your job, as long as it is within the realm of the theme. Think a little.

It just loses steam when there's a really long time between contests, or even too long to shoot and post your shot. I'm trying to keep momentum.

It also helps that I''m not feeling well and lounging around, finding things to do.

As long as we don't see highly detailed pictures of toilet bowls, this is going to be an interesting topic.

Whisk

A close macro of a stainless steel whisk.

This photo has no editing other than a crop and resize. The exposure was taken in the dark with the light coming from an LED flashlight that I moved around the perimeter over the 5 second shutter duration.

^^ You suck. It's bad enough that your pictures come out so well, but then you have to rub it in about how you actually created the shot. STFU already.

I know I would be asked what's going on there if I didn't put any explanation...

SS was going to bust me on that one too... I cook, but there just aren't many BBQ recipes that require a whisk.

I spent a good 2 hours in the kitchen tonight looking for gizmos that would work for this contest. I think I have my entire gadget drawer well documented now.

Awesome pic Dan, That just pushed me over the edge to pull the trigger on the 50mm f/1.8 and hopefully make an entry in this contest. Nice Work

Thanks. This shot was with a 100mm macro and about 30mm of extension tubes. The 50 f/1.8 is a great bang-for-the-buck though, definitely grab one!

Don't be crazy... these contests aren't about winning, they're all about shooting something new and pushing yourself to see something in a new way. The best thing about this contest is you don't even have to leave your house!
