Apparently Waymo has a safety driver too. My guess is Tesla has not even bothered to apply for that permit. They are busy dealing with their work on improving FSD. Whenever it’s available they’ll simply request fleet wide access.

In other news, GM’s super cruise is no longer available in any cars due to “chip shortages”.
So they don’t have any cars to runs their program on (since Bolt is effectively in hibernation) and their software is on hold due to chip shortage. Great.

The correct answer is because Waymo already has L4 self driving. The safety driver doesn't have to tug at the wheel and let the car know he/she is still there. FSD is firmly a level 2 system and, per Tesla, always will be in its current hardware configuration. The only ones who think otherwise are the Tesla stans.

My guess is Tesla will claim to have level 2 FSD even when they are testing a level 4 or 5 capable system just to be on the safe side and avoid legal implications due to idiots. They’ll remove the requirement for tugging the wheel only after getting approved for level 5 FSD.

Fine. So what you're saying is that they only have level 2 then? Tugging at the wheel is annoying, don't have to do that in a GM or Ford car.

I'm sure NASA has a warp drive that their testing but aren't releasing it to the public because idiots will want to go to Mars.
