Volvo broke the record for four-door production cars on the Nurburgring in 2016 but kept the performance a secret. Setting a new record at the Nurburgring is cause for public pride, but the Swedes are different, it seems. The test took place immediately after the 2016 WTCC race at the Nurburgring. Back then, the engineers and drivers of Cyan Racing, the team representing the Volvo brand in the competition, used a production S60 Polestar to set a time that in 2016 had never been achieved by any four-door production car: 7 minutes 51 seconds and 11 hundreds. 9 photos

Fast forward to 2022 we found a copy of the Swedish model on the used car market. On Autoscout24 we found a Volvo S60 Polestar produced in 2016, costing €31,900 (around $33,600), which had reached a mileage of 90,000 km (around 55,923 miles).

It comes with a twin-charged 2.0-liter gasoline engine that develops 367 HP (372 PS) and 346 lb-ft (470 Nm) of torque. The model can sprint from 0 to 62 mph (0-100 kph) in just 4.7 seconds. Power is sent to all 4 wheels through an 8-speed Geartronic transmission with paddle shifters on the steering wheel. The sporty model comes with a Brembo 6-piston braking system and Polestar alloy wheels.

Back to the record kept secret by Volvo, as of November 2020, the Mercedes-AMg GT 63 S became the fastest four-door production car homologated for road use with an impressive lap of 7:23.009 minutes, beating the S60's (and others') time by almost 30 seconds.

The Volvo S60 is a compact executive car manufactured and marketed since 2000. The first generation (2000–2009) was launched to replace the S70 and was based on the P2 platform. The second-generation (2010–2018) was released in 2010 for the 2011 model year and the third generation joined the Volvo lineup in 2018 for the 2019 model year. Polestar was established as the motorsport arm of Volvo in 1996 and was bought by Volvo Cars in July 2015.

The Volvo S60, the oft-forgotten Swedish alternative to the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class, has reached the end of the line. The company confirmed that after 24 years in the US spanning three generations, production of the S60 will end this month.

"After five years Volvo Cars is ending production of the S60 sedan in Ridgeville, South Carolina at the end of June 2024 for the US and some other markets to focus on the all-new EX90," a Volvo spokesperson told Motor1.
