Volkswagen: Eos news **2012 Revealed (page 2)**

Concept C Is Go - - - Source: AutoExpress

VW has confirmed that the Concept C convertible will go into production and is set to arrive in 2006. But insiders have told us it won't be pitched as a Golf Cabrio, but instead will sit as a stand-alone model in a class higher.

The move will let the Beetle soft-top continue to appeal to a different market. The production Concept C will be very similar to the car that debuted at the Geneva Motor Show.

I like it ALOT... that's a real nice coupe. The hardtop is the best I think I've seen. I also like the "new face", but it's upsetting to see that VW continues the trend of making there faces, and especially their noses look A WHOLE LOT LIKE AUDIS. Damn, can Audi do it's thing with the new Auto Union grill without there being a VW version? Same with the new Passat... it's front looks alot like the new A6.. damn. That being said, I still like this car.

More important .... why does AUDI refuse to give us a coupe? The long promised A4 coupe has been cut, and no indication of any 2 door derivative of this platform, yet VW gives us a new coupe with styling cues of the current A4 combined with styling cues seen in the new A6's. Why does AUDI continue to abandon this segment of the marketplace?

Volkswagen Concept C

Ok,
Most people didn't like the Lexus LC-F. So how about the Volkswagen Concept C instead? Any better? Volkswagen and Audi are starting to overlap in their target audience with Volks going upper scale.

I think VW is treading on dangerous ground by moving so many products upscale. You can be damn sure that management at Audi has been rather unhappy as of late. Whatever the case, VW Group needs to work on better defining where each of its makes sits in the whole spectrum of things.

As for the Concept C, let's see them actually put it into production first.

I like it. Nothing groundbreaking, just a clean design with enough quirk to save it from being bland.

It'll be coming in 2006, probably as a 2007. My fiancee already has her heart set on it.

Good looking car. I don't particularly like the rear light treatments, but otherwise really nice.

Although if VW doesn't get their quality issues straightened out, I wouldn't even consider it.

Anybody remember a VW concept from 2-3 years ago for a new Microbus? My wife can't stand the idea of a minivan but she'd KILL for this thing.

I can't link the photo properly but here's the URL: http://www.vw.com/concept/index.htm

Pretty funky.

my cousin has a Jetta. That car is a complete dog, and VW's maintenance policies are crappy. I personally would stay away from VW just for that reason alone.

Golf CC Gets The Green Light - - Source: Autoexpress

Car manufacturers are going drop-top crazy - and the latest model to get the green light is Volkswagen's Concept C. Bosses have officially confirmed the Golf-based study - first seen at the Geneva Motor Show in March - is to come off the drawing board and into production.

However, if you think this is the latest in a long line of Golf cabrios, think again. Top brass are keen to stress that the car won't be badged or marketed as a convertible version of the MkV hatchback.

A spokesman for the company told Auto Express: "The Beetle Cabriolet is our Golf-sized convertible, so the Concept C will be a more upmarket and larger alternative, and feature a folding metal roof."

The new model will be built at VW's plant in Portugal, alongside the Sharan people carrier. Although prices and specs have yet to be confirmed, the production version of the Concept C will be around the same size as a Bora, and will be pitched to take on BMW's 3-Series Convertible and the Audi A4 Cabrio in the luxury drop-top market. As the only genuine coupé-cabriolet in this sector, the model should be a strong performer in showrooms.

However, VW will be hoping it will also steal sales from 'lifestyle' cars, such as the MINI Convertible.

Spy Shots: ’07 VW Concept C

Spy Shots: ’07 VW Concept C - - Golf Cabrio or no, the roof still rotates. - - by Hans Lehmann/Hidden Image - - Source: The Car Connection

At the 2004 Geneva Auto Show, Volkswagen showed its Concept C show car and promised that it was indeed headed for production. Now these latest photos, taken in the U.S. southwest, capture a prototype of the production model as it goes through high-temperature testing.

Like the concept car, the production model has a metal roof that can be lowered to turn the car into a stylish convertible. The new four-seat convertible is sized between the Golf and the Passat, and is reportedly much more luxurious than any previous VW convertible. Production is expected to start in late 2005 for the 2006 model year.

New Volkswagen Cabriolet-Coupé is called Eos
Text & photos courtesy VW AG
08-26-2005

The name of the new Volkswagen cabriolet-coupé has been chosen: Eos – goddess of the dawn.

The name Eos refers to the Greek goddess of the dawn and evokes associations with an idealised cabriolet driving situation – in the early minutes of a summer day. Phonetically, Eos is a quick, clear name which is easy to say all over the world.

The Eos concept continues to draw on Greek mythology. If you believe the Greek myth, the goddess Eos rose with her chariot from the depths of the sea to bring the people daylight every morning. Eos is also the mother of the wind and of the evening and morning star. Dawn, wind, stars – this all fits in perfectly with driving a fascinating cabriolet.

The Eos body concept was not derived from a closed-top model, it was developed as an independent cabriolet-coupé. Fundamental technology such as the engine range (85 kW / 115 PS to 184 kW / 250 PS) and the running gear can all be traced back to the new Passat. Dr. Wolfgang Bernhard, Member of the Board of Management with responsibility for the Volkswagen brand, will unveil the Eos at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt on 12 September 2005 at 11 a.m.

VW Eos, Twin-Turbo FSI Coming toFrankfurt - - Source: The Car Connection

Volkswagen's set to show off for its home crowds at next month's Frankfurt auto show with its new Eos hardtop convertible and a twin-turbo FSI engine that will find its way into a special edition of the Golf. The Eos, which is the production version of the Concept C roadster, is named for the goddess of the dawn, VW says. Developed separately from any of VW's other models, the Eos will be offered with a range of engines with power output of 113 hp to 247 hp.

The new twin-turbo FSI engine will be displayed under its simpler "Twincharger" name. The Twincharger engine uses a small 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine combined with its direct-injection system and twin turbochargers to develop the power of a larger-displacement engine - 168 hp, it's estimated. The strong torque at low speeds, VW says, is complemented by fuel economy of about 39 mpg. VW plans to team up the engine with its DSG gearbox to propel the new Golf GT model to 60 mph in 7.9 seconds and to a top speed of 136 mph.

Someone at the Car Connection needs to lay off the koolaid. It's not a twin-turbo FSI engine that VW is putting together, it's a supercharged-turbocharged engine. They call it the TSI engine, and in 1.4L guise, puts down 170ps while getting 5.9l/100km in highway milage.

Volkswagon EOS News

Volkswagen presents new Eos

Frankfurt, Germany - Volkswagen has introduced its new Eos at the Frankfurt Auto Show. The new convertible coupe will launch in Europe in Spring 2006 and will eventually be available in all five continents.

The Eos is one of as many as ten new models Volkswagen will bring to market by 2009. It was built as an independent body style, rather than developed from a closed model, and features engine choices between 115 hp and 250 hp.

Market launch: The Eos is scheduled to be launched in
Europe in spring 2006; the other continents are set to follow
the same year. The car will open up a new sub-segment and
will be positioned precisely between the A (Golf) and B class (Passat). In parallel, the New Beetle convertible, over 126,000 of which have been built and which underwent a facelift in 2005, will further extend its position as successor
to the Golf convertible at the centre of the A class.

Volkswagen makes specific use of technical
synergies between its model series. Take the engines, for
example: In detail, these encompass four petrol engines with
outputs ranging from 85 kW / 115 PS, 110 kW / 150 PS and
147 kW / 200 PS to 184 kW / 250 PS plus a 103 kW / 140 PS
TDI equipped with a diesel particulate filter as standard.
Four-cylinder direct injection engines are fitted to provide
outputs up to 147 kW, whilst the 184 kW variant derives its
power from six cylinders.

Equipment: The Eos will be launched in just one highquality
equipment version. Permanent details fitted as
standard will include ESP, safety-optimised front headrests,
front airbags and specially developed side head-thorax
airbags; 16" alloy wheels (V6: 17"), air conditioning system
(Climatic / V6: Climatronic)), fog lights, electric window
lifters, ambient lighting, leather-covered steering wheel*,
gear lever knob* and handbrake lever* plus sports seats* (*
= standard as of 103 kW, optional extras for 85 kW).
Optionally, innovative features such as a Dynaudio sound
system with ten-channel amplifier, ten loudspeakers and
600 W output power or bi-xenon headlights with dynamic
and static cornering lights will be available for the Eos.

Should sell about as well as the Solara 'vert, which has dismal sales. I think most people that want a droptop either go with a roadster like the Miata, S2k, Solstice/Sky, or they get a Mustang 'vert. Heavy, expensive, FWD 'verts appeal to a small segment of middle-aged women, and thats about it.

Volkswagen again delays launch of Eos, to July 2006 - - Reuters / November 19, 2005 - - Source: Automotive News

FRANKFURT (Reuters) -- Volkswagen AG has delayed the launch of its Eos coupe-convertible model again, to July 2006, a company spokesman said on Saturday.

Automobilwoche, in a preview of its Monday, Nov. 21 edition, said production problems in Portugal were a reason for the delay. Automobilwoche the the German-language sister publication of Automotive News.

Dealers have now been given the first weekend in July as the target date for the Eos market launch in Europe, the spokesman said, citing a range of problems. "The roof is one issue," he said.

A coupe-convertible is a model with a coupe silhouette that sports a retractable hardtop, allowing it to change to a convertible. Fewer and fewer convertibles entering the market these days come with a traditional soft material top. Volkswagen said on Tuesday, Nov. 15, that the launch would be delayed until May 2006. It was originally planned for March.

Industry sources estimate VW will build 50,000 Eos cars per year.

2007 US Spec VW Eos

2006 Los Angeles Auto Show: Volkswagen Eos
Source: VW

What They Say: The five-section CSC structure offers not only optical, but also practical advantages.

What It Means: Sadly it is hard to call a convertible with a retractable hardtop impractical. You got us VW.

Full Release: Only a few months after debuting at the Geneva Automobile Show, Volkswagen of America now presents a new series version of Volkswagen's high-emotion new convertible coupé in the form of the Eos at the Los Angeles and Detroit Motor show shortly thereafter. This is the world's first four-seater car with a five-section CSC (coupe, sunroof, convertible) roof; the folding hard top combines the characteristics of a coupé, sliding and convertible roof, thereby unifying three different car concepts to form a whole.

Consistently new emotional design that can only be a Volkswagen original

CSC design: When closed, the CSC roof curves in an arc between the rear end and the windscreen, giving rise to an outstanding coupé roof which is both elegant and sporty. The roof's curve is elongated, the rear end muscular and the overall impression is one of high quality. When the roof is open, the 173.6 inch long and 70.5 inch wide Eos also clearly reveals that it has been specifically developed as a convertible coupé, and that its body concept has not been derived from any other model in existence. The CSC roof has enabled the windscreen frame to be kept short and the rear compact, lending the vehicle sensuous proportions in the style of a classic convertible.

CSC characteristics: The five-section CSC structure offers not only optical, but also practical advantages. Firstly, pure convertible feeling. As the windscreen frame — the roof cross member, to be perfectly accurate — projects far less into the interior than is the case with many similar solutions, there is nothing above the driver and front passenger but blue skies. Secondly, optimum entry and exiting. The shorter windscreen frame makes it easier to get into the Eos when the top is down, as the driver or passenger does not have to maneuver his head past the frame. Thirdly, the integrated glass/sliding/tilting roof, because the sun does not always shine, nor is it always summer. In such cases, the glass/sliding/tilting roof fitted in the Eos lets in light, air and good humor. Full opening and closing are very speedy, by the way, taking around 25 seconds from the first "clack" to the last "click". The system concludes the process with a signal tone, confirming that the roof is either open or closed completely. In addition, the CSC roof offers the general advantages of unimpeded suitability throughout the year and minimal driving noise when closed. It is also less appealing to vandals than a soft top. Of course, a roll-over protection system, which shoots out within a maximum of 0.25 seconds increases safety in critical situations.

Very wide and powerful

Dimensions: The convertible coupé is 70.5 inches wide, 173.6 inches long and 56.8 inches high. In relation to each other, these dimensions enhance the vehicle's dynamics. In comparison with its length and height, the vehicle's width lends the Eos a particularly powerful appearance. Its large track width (over 60.8 inches) not only looks good, it also contributes extensively towards the extraordinarily agile and safe handling characteristics exhibited by the Eos. The result is pure driving enjoyment regardless of whether the roof is up or down.

Engines: In the U.S., still months from its debut, Volkswagen of America will offer the renowned 2.0T, 200 horsepower, four cylinder and a 3.2, 250 hp version of its narrow angle V6.

Sporty, elegant interior

Passenger compartment: The interior design is also new. While the functional and operating details (e.g. light, air conditioning, radio systems) are familiar from other models, many fundamental Eos elements are new developments. These include the cockpit, the door and side trim panels and the rear seat system. Volkswagen is additionally offering electrically activated easy-entry seats for the first time. These "remember" the driver's and front passenger's longitudinal seating positions, and return to these — once the rear passengers have entered or exited the vehicle — at the push of a button. As standard, a power latching system closes the boot lid the last few millimeters. A load through aperture is additionally integrated into the rear bench seat.
