Video on SH-AWD system in 2005 RL
Autospies comes through again with a link to a 10 minute plus video on the new SH-AWD system used in the 2005 RL. They used a J-spec Honda Inspire (that's our Honda Accord) as the test bed so I would imagine the possibility of fitting the system to the Accord.
Here's the link.

It's in Japanese (so if you happen to speak, please translate) but from what I was able to make out, the system looks intriguing and does still hold a FWD bias 70 to 30, but can provide a lot of the power to the rear wheels when necessary.

Actually, the point of this system is to have no bias except perfomance. The 30% to 70% thing is acutally the minimum to maximum power either the front or rear wheels can have at any given time making it truly all-wheel-drive or even possibly three-wheel-drive (keep reading). The range of power between the back wheels is actually 0%-100% at the left or right. This means that potentially one of the rear wheels can have 70% of the engine power at some point. (Anyone please feel free to correct me if I am wrong)
My questions are:
1) how will this system perform in snow (I haven't heard anything about slip detection in this system)?
and
2) will this system be used on an upcoming S2000 model or prelude replacement (or even NSX)?

Of course the system has some sort slip detection system built in - that's how it knows to direct the power. The only difference is that in snow you'll have more slip all over. The snow performance will vary greatly depending on tires and not so much becasue of SHAWD itself. SHAWD will not help much if you have crappy all-seasons (leading some folks in the future to call the system CHAWD or Crappy Handling All Wheel Drive).
As long as it fits, I assume that diff can be installed in any RWD platform.

Does anyone know if the SH-AWD system is using the Type SH technology from the prelude which in turn inherited it from the NSX? I used to have a Prelude SH and basically depending on how fast you turn, the outer wheel will spin at a faster rate then the inner wheel. Supposingly making your turns faster. Don't know if it actually worked or not
