Because for a little more I can get better cars that are bigger monsters.
S4
CTS-V
M3
etc...
And for about $34K I can get a new TL with 300HP (TL + CT headers). I don't think the rest of the features are worth $12K more

You may be able to get up to 300 hp w/ bolt ons for a normal TL, but you wouldn't get AWD which has the potential to make all the difference in the world for this car. I don't think that $45k is unreasonable for a 315hp AWD luxo sedan that has WAY more gizmos than any of the ones you listed. (bluetooth, DVD-A, etc.) and better quality to boot!

You seem to be under the illusion that most people would keep the car for decades
All three cars come with 4/50K warranties and unlike Acura, some also include free maintenance. And the new CTS has an improved interior and nearly 100 more HP than this potential TL.

Invoice = $42,475
Give me $45K and I will give you a new M3. But you will notice that I said for "a little more".

Yea, AWD is worth $10k+
AWD should only add about $1-2K to the price.

It is not unreasonable, but it is certainly not the best choice for the money.
And better quality is certainly debatable. I guess you aren't aware of some of the quality issues members here have had with their CL's

However, at the bimmer dealer near my house, this is what they are charging for their only M3......15k is a lot of money.
http://www.capitalcitiesbmw.com/en_US/
--EDIT-- Damn, it won't let a direct link to its M3 page, but the price is $58,320

I saw this concept model at the LA auto show yesterday. Man oh man, that car looks sweet. The paint was also pretty cool too. It was like a grayish-sliver with glitter everywhere. I think the tail lights are tasteful as well. But the red interior wasnt right. The car looked so nice, couldnt they atleast complement the interior somehow with the rest of the color scheme of the car? This car deserves better than a ricer color style interior.

Yeah but at 40k-45k that AWD TLS would be one sweet-ass package. Interior wise I think it would blow an M3 away and as for speed I think it would be pretty close (a 300hp FWD CLS6 is a low 14 second car already, now add a little more power and an AWD advantage and you might have a high 13-second sedan). Handling on the TLS would be greatly improved with the suspension package and AWD so the gap would be narrowed with an M3. From what I've heard and read the CTS-V's interior is nothing special. The new S4 I thought started at mid-40s but is on par or a tick slower than the M3. Interior would probably be on par with the TLS and it would probably handle a little better (the S4 that is). The IS430 is a different beast but isn't that in the 50s?
I guess this is all speculation but its exciting nonetheless!
