So this is Toyota's next generation...NSX Where is Honda's?

Great news. Although the price is high for mass market production, this is still an interesting offering from a bland (company) company like Toyota.

gav, what's the reliability of that article though? I haven't been able to confirm it anywhere else. I posted thinking you might know.

Priapus!

Priapus
n : (classical mythology) god of male procreative power and
guardian of gardens and vineyards
But my first thought is priapism, the form of the word that is more used today.
priapism
n : condition in which the penis is continually erect; usually
painful and seldom with sexual arousal

It's a cool car, but when you are spending $72k for a pure sports car, do you really care that much about an extra 10-15mpg?

If I had 72k to throw around on a unpractical supercar, then I'd care less about saving ~$1000 a year on gas.

But it's awesome if they build the car, and it's even better to see a really high performance hybrid for once

Looking at other things posted on that same source, I have to admit, I doubt the validity of this. We'll see...

You have to remember that an electric motor develops full TQ at only 1 rpm. So from a standing start this thing would be incredible. Both electric motors plus the V6 applying massive TQ from a stand still will blast this thing off like a rocket.

supposedly that article at "glossynews" or whatever is a hoax. BUT - I would hope this is mostly in reference to the name of the car and its "release date". I would like to think Toyota is not sitting idle in the midst of all the action at all the other companies. With a continued F1 presense, I think it's high-time Toyota got back in to the supercar leagues.

Oh I am sure we will see a supercar of two from Toyota soon. Getting in F1 was part of the whole strategy.

Toyota's supercar is electrifying - - SOurce: Autocar

Toyota is planning a high-output hybrid supercar that could be on sale by 2007. The flagship Toyota would be the first production supercar with hybrid power, offering high performance with a low environmental impact.

‘If we do a supercar, we don’t want to copy everyone else,’ said Thierry Dombreval, marketing boss for Toyota Motor Europe. ‘With hybrid power we could mix high performance with green credentials.’

At this year’s Geneva Motor Show Italdesign showed the Alessandro Volta (above), a 402bhp
3.3-litre V6 hybrid supercar, with a claimed 155mph top speed, 0-62mph in 4.1sec and 38mpg. It was developed with Toyota.

Although the Volta is not a running prototype, Toyota Motor Europe’s research and development boss Kazuhiko Miyadera said he has driven the company’s high-performance hybrid test car. ‘Because of the steep torque curve of an electric motor, the acceleration is very good. It’s very quick,’ he said.

Toyota is exploring its first supercar to take advantage of its involvement in F1 and to keep up with arch-rival Nissan, which will unveil a 400bhp Skyline GT-R at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show. Toyota will also steal a march on Honda, which has canned an NSX replacement (right) in favour of a Porsche Boxster rival, still several years off.

‘A hybrid supercar is just right for Toyota. It is something different and fits our brand,’ said Dombreval. ‘We are leaders in hybrid technology and we could exploit it in this new way.’

But Toyota has to overcome the resistance of supercar buyers, who judge their purchases on factors such as engine size, badge credibility and racing heritage, as well as performance. ‘We don’t think this should be a problem. We could offer something new and different that also has strong performance and is green,’ said Dombreval.

Significantly, because of the size of their markets, both Toyota in the US and Japan are understood to be behind the idea.

700 km -- > 7.5L

equivalent to
435 miles --> 1.98 gallons!!!!#@#$@%$@!*

Suppose it has a 12 gallon tank, that would mean LA to Atlanta on one tank!!!!!!!!!

13-14 gallon tank, LA to NY on one tank!! $30 of gas money and 3-4 days of around the clock driving, knocking on Soopa's door...priceless.

Yea bullshit. First of all this thing aint going to be able to stay in price check with a gas engine from nissan and the nsx if done will once again be outrageous, in price.

2nd 400hp in 07 will be like 300 now, either the gtr will be 45k or the engine will be putting out a lot more.

3rd, if Toyota was that brilliant in f1 they wouldn't be stealing from ferrari.
