Redesigned Toyota Tundra pickup bulks up - - Dale Jewett - - SOurce: Automotive News
CHICAGO -- Tired of getting sand kicked in its face by pickups from Ford, General Motors and Dodge, the Toyota Tundra was sent to the gym.
What emerges for the 2007 model year is a bigger, beefier pickup, with styling that takes its cues from the FTX concept truck from 2004.
The 2007 Tundra was unveiled Thursday morning at the Chicago Auto Show.
When it goes on sale about a year from now, here's what buyers will find:
A bigger truck. The Tundra's wheelbase has been stretched 10 inches to 138.3 inches on the standard cab. The wheelbase on the Double Cab is 150.5 inches. The overall length grows about the same amount, ranging from about 228 to 240 inches.
A new 5.7-liter V-8 joins the engine lineup. That engine should make more than 300 hp and be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. It will join the current engines - a 4.0-liter V-6 that was rated at 236 hp for 2006 and a 4.7-liter V-8 that was rated at 271 hp.
Towing capacity rated at more than 10,000 pounds.
Three trim levels - base, SR5 and Limited - and three cab configurations, including the Double Cab.
The options list will include a rearview backup camera and Bluetooth connectivity for cellular telephones.
Toyota will build the redesigned Tundra at plants in Princeton, Ind., and San Antonio.

Ehh. Atleast it's a true full sized truck now. I don't really like the shape of the grill, or the small lights. But it does have an aggressive face. I like the interior alot; something fresh and different. Interesting choic for the top engine. The've beaten Nissan's displacement by .1L and I'm sure the HP will be just enough to top Nissan's output as well.

The overall truck looks very promising, although I don't like the dash's odd design elements. I'd have to see it in person to make a finally judgment on the interior but from the pics I don't like it so far.
BTW, I like the idea of being able to store files in the armrest. It’s definitely going to be a contractor’s best friend.

i like the new look a lot- but im unsure on the dash layout as well. The stereo/climate controls look like they're closer to the passenger than the driver. Oh and THREE cupholders, bitch.

Meh, Toyota gets an A for the distinctive look, but I don't like the design. I'm not liking Toyota's 'frowning' grille and emphasized snout that they're putting on their SUVs and trucks lately. The interior is nice, though I think Ford's F-Series trucks have a better designed interior.

i never liked the previous tundra, but this one looks like it has some balls.....so is it going to be 5.4L or 5.7L? about time toyota puts some power in there...overall really nice but for some reason the front reminds me of dodge

Have to see it in person, the one thing I see that I also don't like on the Tacoma is that silver plastic trim around the grill. Wish they had a sport model that made everything on the truck body color.

i think the grill looks great. much better than the previous gen's.
and mazda quit making trucks because ford hasnt updated the ranger/mazda truck in a million yrs so it cant compete with the new tacoma/frontier/dakota

damn, look at the space in between the seats!! really gives you an idea about how big this thing is.
and, I like the dash, a fresh look for trucks of this size.

B-Series

They apparently still make the B-Series .. as 4 the Tundra, what is that behind the gear shift? A coin holder?
That thing is monsterous - clearly Toyota is not playing. I guess they had no choice after all those Toyota vs Ford commercials last year where they basically insulted each other.

I think it's just a storage area for anything that'll fit. But that center console looks very useful.
