https://www.motor1.com/news/314002/t...ions-revealed/

Five new colors join red, black, and white from the Launch Edition models.

Perhaps it’s ironic that Toyota’s latest addition to its website features new Supra news and starts with the curious sentence believe the hype. There’s certainly been no small amount of hype about the Supra’s return, and now we know just a little bit more about it. Specifically, Toyota has listed all the colors available for the reborn sports car, including the three launch edition options that will kick off its production schedule this summer. All total, first-year Supra buyers will have eight shades to choose from.

Car and Driver tipped us off to the new color listing, and though we don’t have a full Supra configurator just yet, we can at least get a taste of its exterior flavors. The three launch edition colors are Absolute Zero White, Nocturnal Black, and Renaissance Red, with each car gaining red-trimmed mirrors as opposed to all black. Once the initial run is complete, those three colors will be joined by Tungsten Silver, Turbulence Gray, Downshift Blue, Phantom Matte Gray, and Nitro Yellow. Footnotes tell us those last two shades will cost a bit extra.

Speaking of cost, all Launch Edition Supras will start at $55,250, with Premium models a bit less at $53,990 and plain-old 3.0 models dinging the bank for $49,990. Unfortunately, those figures don’t include delivery and other fees, so unless you manage to negotiate quite a deal you won’t be able to nab a new Supra for less than $50,000. That also assumes no adjusted market values from dealerships, which seems unlikely considering buyers have been waiting a decade for this car to arrive.

Regardless of the color or trim level, those buyers will get a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 making 335 horsepower (250 kilowatts), driving the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic. It may not be the three-pedal powertrain diehards Supra fans were wanting, but Toyota says it will blast to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds.

Haha but that's a different name. Mazda didn't call the RX-8 a RX-7. It's like the Mazda MX-5 is different than the MX-6.

I think the car would have been perfect Celica.... but no one would spend $55k on a Celica

On the related note, now there is really no one buying the RC anymore.

I'd say the 86 is not perfect, but a good spiritual successor to the Celica. AE86 too, of course.

I guess that's why I'm pretty happy with the Supra in general - the fact that it exists is good. It signals that Toyota is not just willing to make sports cars again, they actually are.

Can't really think of a car these days that really makes everybody happy. With that in mind, it is nice to have plenty of options before electric cars completely take over.

White on Red FTW!!

But i think it should only reserved for certain type of cars... I remember when i first saw the white Camry Sport with quad exhaust and red interior.. i was like you fking serious??
All of sudden white on red was not so cool anymore after that.

As I understand it, the Supra's engine has been de-tuned (down to 335 hp) in order to maintain Toyota's standards of reliability, while the Z4's mill pumps out about 50 hp more ....

2020 Toyota Supra vs. 2020 BMW Z4 | Similar sports cars, different missions

BMW's own one-upmanship comes via the Z4 M40i, whose 382 horses and 369 pound-feet – from the M Division's heavily reworked version of the inline six – pips both the Supra and the 350-hp Porsche Boxster S. Pressed on why the Supra must make do with the less-powerful, slower-reacting version of the inline-six, Tada stresses the desire for Supra "balance."

B58 has been documented to dyno well over 300WHP for a while now, even tho i dont really care about base line #s since they dont really represent the actual power... but i am not surprised the latest version would have even higher power...

We will never know the difference until we dyno the Supra and the Z4 on the same Dyno.... the published #s are nothing but marketing tools.

https://www.autoblog.com/2019/05/19/...-trd-upgrades/

The bits and bobs we saw revealed on the Toyota Supra TRD Performance Line Concept are ready for primetime. TRD put them on display on Facebook last week, and at least one Japanese dealer showed the handiwork on a show-floor Supra. The good news is that they look just as good as they did on the concept, made from carbon fiber reinforced plastic and given a lustrous coating over a perfect weave pattern. The bad news is that they probably won't be the least bit inexpensive.

A three-piece front splitter leads things off. It increases downforce and reduces lift, but it also lowers the car by 14 millimeters (0.55 inch). The rocker extensions carry shark fins at their leading and trailing edges, said to smooth airflow along the body and around the rear three-quarter. They also lower the ride height by four millimeters (0.16 inch). Above them, a set of CFRP panels on the door close off the side intakes. The coupe's chief engineer said the Supra's standard cooling system is good enough, the vents there in case aftermarket mods need more air.

A rear spoiler stands guard at the rear of the decklid, above a diffuser that wraps around the backs of the rear fenders into side spoilers. That diffuser has the greatest effect on ground clearance, reducing ride height by 24 mm (0.95 inch). The CFRP mirror caps are just for show, as are the 20-spoke, 19-inch forged aluminum wheels painted black and shod in Michelin Pilot Sport rubber. Those front wheels are nine inches wide, the rears ten inches.

A forum member at SuperMkV did a straight yen-to-dollar conversion on the parts based on prices from a dealer web site. For the front splitter, side skirts, rear side spoilers, trunk spoiler, diffuser, door "garnish," wheels, and wheel locks, the total came to $23,522. Even if the price were halved for our market, that money would buy a lot of actual performance-enhancing treats - maybe even a 2JZ-GTE for anyone ready to do a lot of their own wrenching.

We look forward to the financial details whenever TRD decides to bring the parts over. It shouldn't be long now.

https://jalopnik.com/dyno-test-revea...ore-1834928175

It’s fairly well known that modern BMW engines tend to have more actual horsepower and torque than is advertised. And—I don’t know if you’ve heard this or not—the 2020 Toyota Supra uses a BMW engine and chassis tuned by Toyota engineers. So when I drove the new Supra a few weeks ago, I figured it could be underrated too, since it certainly felt more powerful than its official figures let on.

Turns out I was right, like I always am, because I am a genius. The good folks at Car and Driver just did what may be the first dyno test of the Supra, and according to that test it has a more horsepower than Toyota claims and a lot more torque.

To recap, the Supra packs a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six BMW engine called the B58B30M1. It’s rated at 335 HP and 365 lb-ft of torque. But given that this sports cars weighs in at 3,397 pounds but can do zero to 60 mph in under four seconds, it certainly feels more powerful than that.

C&D’s dyno test, done at Livernois Motorsports and Engineering in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, appears to confirm this. Their Supra came in at 339 HP and 427 lb-ft of torque—at the wheels. It’s not uncommon for a car’s wheel horsepower to be less than what is claimed at the crank, but hot damn, is that torque figure a nice surprise.

Here’s how the magazine did the test:

We strapped the Supra to the Dynojet all-wheel-drive dynamometer, as the car’s stability systems only play nice when all four wheels are spinning. For this observation, we ran the test in the eight-speed automatic transmission’s fifth-gear ratio of 1.32:1 to achieve a full sweep of the tachometer. We experimented with the 1.00:1 ratio of sixth gear but were unable to reach the engine’s redline. The power output in sixth gear, however, matched our results of those in the higher gear.
C&D suspects the peak torque output could in actuality be a bit lower than that, but any way you spin it, the Supra’s more powerful than we were led to believe.

Numbers are one thing, but I can tell you in real world driving that the Supra is a very fast car, certainly quicker than the Porsche Cayman S it was benchmarked against—even if it’s not quite as tight on the race track. Anyone who thought it’d be slow is sorely mistaken.

I can’t wait to see what the tuners do with it.

Dynojet: - at least 10% = somewhat realistic #.

I would suspect the same car on Mustang dyno will be 300hp and 350 torque at the wheel....

Like i said before... base line #s dont mean anything without reference.

Just saw the C&D post. Called it

What's more impressive though is the 427 wtq that's kind of absurd. BMW turbo-6s put out torque like that?

as nowind said, dynojets read high but these numbers are not really surprising. 0-60 in 4 seconds flat and low 12s with that trap speed - the Supra has balls.

339whp sounds about right. Torque figure on ATs sometimes is a bit of a mess though with some spikes here and there. Performance figures do suggest the car is more like making 380 HP.

Many european manufacturers will rate the power of the engine in a "worst case" condition (altitude, temp, airflow, etc) while many dynos will measure in much more favorable conditions. This is why you regularly see euro engines making a LOT more power than quoted by the manufacturers. They aren't sandbagging so to speak, they're just telling you it won't be less than this.

I personally believe that they are underrated for sure. that has been the case for almost all Turbo cars from BMW.... but i dont know about 427 lbs of torque at the wheel tho....B58 is not diesel

Haha in a sense the Japanese were doing that when they had that 280hp gentlemen's agreement.

The 427lbft is not unusual. CVT and auto transmission have these spikes depending on the dyno.

This 335hp supra makes the 350hp Focus RS looks slow haha.

I really enjoyed this presentation via TFL on YouTube:

I’m not a huge Toyota fan but I have to give them credit here. I would love to see Honda Corporate keep their bean counters in check and produce a Prelude or CLX along similar lines using the upcoming TLX-S powertrain.

BMW FTW

Well the older 300hp -325hp N54, N55 and B58 were just as fast as cars with much higher HP #s...

Some cars that come out I want to like. This car, I want to dislike. Why? I'm not sure. I think it's me attempting to be a Supra purist. Having never owned a Supra that's absurd. Maybe it's all the not-so-glowing press comments forming my opinion. I haven't driven one so that's also absurd. Truth is, I like the new Supra. I'd buy one over other similarly priced sports cars were I in the market.

The best thing about this car is IT LOOKS LIKE A SUPRA. The designers did a good job translating the design for a modern interpretation. I'm also almost certain that it's performance is very good as well. Looks good, performs well. I'm a simple man. My prediction is that the new Supra will get better with time, and then Toyota will kill the program again. Meanwhile, would someone (a lot of someones) buy this car to keep it alive!

Edit: Looks good in black.

I hope you're wrong about Toyota killing it off but I pretty much agree with the rest of your post. I think a lot of people feel the way you do, including myself.

Toyota did a good job of bringing back the Supra, while at the same time keeping it accessible to the masses. It really seems like they put a lot of thought into this project.

If I were a coupe buyer, this would be HIGH on my list.

I struggle to think of any cars that are quite like the supra on the market. The muscle cars like the mustang and camaro, while fast, aren't exactly light compared to the supra. They also don't seem to be as fun to drive as the new supra. The new Supra seems to be getting really good reviews regarding it's driving fun.

I think it's always difficult to make a successor to a legendary car. The MK 4 supra was launched in 1992? That's almost 3 decades ago and so comparison will also be unfair either way. For the most part I feel like Toyota has stuck with the original formula as much as possible while modernizing the car.

You should go drive some of the more modern muscle cars, they aren't the drag strip queens that they used to be.

Also, for the $55k to get a Supra you could get a GT350. Just saying.

For the money I would definitely take the GT350 over Supra anyday of the week. And if I really want a Bimmer I would just go buy a Bimmer.

Personally, I donít think the two are comparable other than being two door RWD coupes and I really donít foresee much cross shopping between the two.

That said, there is something to be said for getting a BMW with Toyota quality. (I wish Toyota/BMW would execute on a similar venture with the G20. )

What about getting a Toyota with BMW quality? Because that's what you're actually getting.

Also, no they won't be cross shopped much but at a similar price point I know where my money is going.
