It actually looks decent! The body design is miles better than the current car.

Interior actually borrows the theme from RX.

Hopefully they've done something for the steering and body roll and not just bumped up the power. These cars are both equally great and comfortable. The difference was at least for me, the way the car felt. The Ody was as close to a car as you could get from a minivan. We'll see what reviews say when it comes out.

Good news is the unintended acceleration should be barely noticeable in this van.

The exterior lights are very Lexus-like. Not bad.

Wow, they made it look better. Nice. I hope AWD will be available.

And nice calves on the woman's leg in the first photo there...

I'm never one to say "Oh this looks like..."

but it just borrowed every single element from cars they already have.

>The front end looks exactly like the mmc Camry SE combined with the new Lexus dedicated Hybrid
>The rear bumper is literally right off the Corolla
>The trunk/hatch came off the Sequoia
>Tail lights very similar to the Lexus dedicated Hybrid again

SE will drive better than the Odyssey? I could see that happening since the Camry SE really does handle better than the Accord (no sport model I know).. but it could also go the other way as was the case with the Venza, which was supposed to have capable handling but turned out being an epic phail.

ToO much chin on the front bumper there...

Maybe it'll look better in person? It does look better in that darker gray metallic paint...

Sorry to get OT a bit...

I got this car for a loaner a while ago and I didn't like the look of the interior AT ALL. The swoopy center stack is completely wasted by the effort to inject "style". The dual gauges are completely boring and they should have kept with the tiered 3 gauge look. They were trying too hard, I feel....

Anyway, back to your regular programming...

I really don't like where Toyoya is going with their interiors these days. To my eyes, it looks messy and incoherant.

I thought the front and rear of the 4G TL were ugly, until I saw the Sienna.
Interior looks fine to me, though-- the Audio-CC stack is better than the RX stack.

Those reclining rear seats look nice, I'd add a massage mat to top it off. If i had to sit in this thing i'd definitely be lying down and not looking at that hideous center stack.

I drove down from San Jose over the weekend just to see the new Sienna.

I got to say that the picture does not do justice to the new sienna.

The biggest complain i have with the new sienna is the new dash, which got changed to the new 2010 prius hard to touch plastic. But the buttons are more classier than the previous generation.

The seat on the SE offers great side support. The material is actually quiet good. The fake wood trim looks pretty good in person and touch is pretty decent as well. Very different from the current plastic wood. They moved the front seat front by 2" and 3rd row back by another 2". The 2nd row leg room is huge compare to current sienna and odyssey.

The new SE proto comes with 235/50/19 MXV4 Primacy and its about 2" lower than the garden variety Sienna. I wouldn't be surprised that the new Sienna would out handle and out brake the Odyssey.

Everything on this van is a huge step up from current generation. Did i mention the thick steering wheel. The grip on the wheel is great.

Meh !!! I'd Pass..

I think Toyota has lowered the bar with the next iteration of Sienna. Although I like the Odyssey more, this is a big let down, because competetion always helps improve things for customers.

Sorry. The new honda interior is far worse and incoherent.

Too busy with many buttons. Toyota has honda beat on that front.

We are actually going to be in the market for a minivan next year and from these quick looks I will definetly be looking at the Sienna as well as the Honda. I will say my biggest thing when comparing is going to be the gadgets/little things.

They both will drive alright (wife is driving 90% of the time anyway), both will be reliable, both look decent (from the pictures of this one) and both are comparable in size. Its the little niceties that will sway me one way or the other. Is there a listing of some of the cool new stuff in this one? Liking the video screen and 2nd row chairs.

Putting usability and ergonomics aside. New Honda interiors may be busy, but they still look more pleasing to the eye to the new Toyota interiors IMO.

Interior is odd....don't care for it.
Exterior is a bit better than current gen, but the taillights are HORRIBLE.

There was a time when Toyota, Honda, & Nissan made fantastic interiors...not so much anymore.

Honda might be faultering a bit in the ergonomics department, but the design aspect of their interiors is still far ahead of most Toyota designs.

So the SE package has the dark color fake wood too?

In this photo it actually looks better, although it still looks no where near elegant, which I'd prefer how a family vehicle looks.

By the way I dislike wood steering wheel.

New Sporty SE
Given its upgraded engineering, every Sienna will ride well and track cleanly through corners, but none more so than the newest addition to the line: the sporty SE.

The SE is designed for those who appreciate an even sportier design with responsive performance. The front has a more aggressive appearance and the side skirting visually lowers the vehicle. Aerodynamic sculpting hugs the standard 19-inch alloy wheels, which are specially tuned for sportier handling. Separating the SE further from other grades, the smoked tail lamps create a visually prominent statement. The SE sits lower, on a sport-tuned suspension for quicker feedback and better handling. Additionally, the SE is built with exclusive instrumentation and unique interior colors and trim.

The clear tails suck ass. Make them red leaving the turn signal/reverse light section clear.

Oh it's clear to me now which is which:

LE trim interior:

XLS trim interior:

And SE trim interior (similar to LE, but with leather covered steering wheel, white speedometer, and sort of two-tone seat):

Sooo.... it's two shades of vanilla with sprinkles on top? dunno:

Anyway, the idea of a "sport"y minivan is kinda intriguing, especially one from Toyota.

Red face Recall

CHICAGO (AFP) – Embattled Japanese automaker Toyota has decided to recall 870,000 Sienna minivans in the United States and Canada because of corrosion problems.

The announcement came Friday, a day after the world's biggest automaker said it would suspend production and worldwide sales of its Lexus GX 460 and would conduct safety tests on all its SUVs due to reports of rollover risk.

The recall affects 1998 through 2010 Sienna minivans that Toyota said could experience corrosion in the spare tire carrier cable if they have been operated in cold climates with high road salt use.

"In the worst case, the carrier cable may fail and the spare tire could become separated from the vehicle, a road hazard for following vehicles that increases the likelihood of a crash," Toyota said in a statement.

A spokesman for Toyota, Brian Lyons, said the company did not know of any accidents or injuries associated with the defect, but was checking.

Toyota said it is currently working to develop a remedy for the problem.

"Until this remedy is developed, customers will receive an interim notice instructing them to bring their vehicle to a dealership for a preliminary inspection,"
it said.

"Once the remedy has been developed, customers will receive a secondary notice advising the customer of the remedy availability."

The recall involves about 600,000 minivans in the United States and another 270,000 in Canada, the automaker said.

Toyota, which overtook General Motors in 2008 as the world's top auto seller, has been bedeviled by a series of safety issues that have raised questions about whether it sacrificed its legendary quality to become number one.

Toyota executives were hauled over the coals in the US Congress earlier this year and the company's previously stellar reputation for safety was left in tatters after it recalled more than eight million vehicles beginning late 2009 for brake and accelerator defects.

The automaker has been hit with at least 97 lawsuits seeking damages for injury or death linked to sudden acceleration and 138 class action lawsuits from customers suing to recoup losses in the resale value of Toyota vehicles.

The company faces a record 16.4-million-dollar fine in the United States for its failure to notify authorities quickly about problems with "sticky pedals" that could force vehicles to speed out of control and officials have warned that further fines are possible.

Toyota suspended production and global sales of the Lexus GX 460 sport utility vehicle after US magazine Consumer Reports gave the SUV a rare "Don't Buy: Safety Risk" rating Thursday in the latest blow to the reputation of the embattled Japanese auto giant.

When pushed to its limits, the rear of the GX "slid out until the vehicle was almost sideways before the electronic stability control system was able to regain control," the magazine said.

Toyota said it will work on analyzing potential safety risks in the model, which has already sold 6,000 units.

This past week, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued an advisory asking motorists to use caution when driving the vehicle.
