Toyota is quietly doing “Employee pricing” too

Looks like everybody is jumping on the bandwagon.
I got a letter yesterday from the dealer where we bought my wife’s RAV4 and they’re doing “Employee Pricing” on all 2005’s in stock.
But it’s only for previous customers.
My dad got a letter too. He has a 2004 Highlander.
Not sure what the numbers are. You have to bring the letter with you for the deal.

Nothing I want from them though…

The RAV4 only has 15K on it and I'm not looking to upgrade just yet.

Did the letter mention any specifics? Darcars Toyota (NoVA) typically shows Internet pricing on their dealer web site at about 3K off sticker on the RAV4. My wife will be buying one at the end of August.

Nope, nothing specific. No prices either. It does say that it’s nontransferable.
It just says to bring the letter to the dealer and you must be in their system as a current Toyota owner.
Then you do the deal.

It’s a great vehicle.
The only way I’d trade up right now is if they put a V6 in it.
Its fine for her running around town, I rarely drive it myself.
But when I do, I sometimes wish for a little more power when I’m trying to get up to speed on a highway.

Are you sure it's Toyota doing this? It sounds like it could be the your individual dealership trying to clear out the '05 inventory with a similar sales gimmick. That way they can mark down the prices with "no haggle" prices, and still make money.

Find out if its Toyota itself doing the pricing or the DEALER doing its own employee pricing (which is often a couple hundred over invoice)

Like I said, I don’t know.
The flyer is from the dealership, not Toyota directly.
It specifically says “Buy at the prices our employee’s pay”.
Other then that, I don’t know if it’s just a local sales gimmick or something being done nationally

I think it is being done nationally. A friend just bought a 4Runner after receiving a flyer in the mail about employee pricing.

It is strange though that if Toyota is offering employee pricing nation wide why they wouldn't advertise it.

Seems like they’re limiting it to previous customers and contacting them directly instead of advertising to millions that can’t use it.
I’m sure you could still work a good deal if you walked in off the street, but you’d have to be a good negotiator and find a willing dealer.

Toyota's way of doing things is a little better IMO. It doesn't get the public 'addicted' to that pricing. They won't win any converts from other car companies this way, but they will win repeat customers, like, say a mid 20's girl who has a Corolla, and was thinking about the Accord, but now that she sees this she goes and buys a Camry.

There's a bunch of Acura owners here who got similar letters from their dealerships. I say it's a dealer trick.

It's completely dealer specific. I got one of these letters from an Acura dealer here. I didn't buy my car from them, but just had some service done there only one time.

Now that GM is doing away with it, look for the others to do the same. Next month, someone (probaly GM again) will invent some new marketing ploy to get people to buy its vehicles.

My Fiance got a letter in the mail about this too. I'm gonna see if she can get her dad to buy the Highlander hybrid with the employee discount.
