i would never consider the element, and i think this thing is almost a perfect fit of a hard top wrangler sized more usable for daily life suv... but pushing 30k for the one in the link is approaching a target price not as many younger males will be willing to spend new
whether or not you agree won't dictate the actual age and gender group that will be the leader in sales for the FJ. i never said demographics outside the mid 20 year old male group can't or won't buy the FJ. i've seen, and even proof-read my wife's FJ analysis and breakdown, comparing it to competing vehicles such as the jeep liberty, nissan xterra, etc., as well as within toyota's own lineup. included in the analysis are all the demographics for each vehicle, pricing, incentives, features...everything under the sun.

the point of the FJ is two-fold...to bring a rugged image to toyota and to introduce younger males into the brand, profit is obviously another one. it serves a market niche and will not cannibalize from toyota's existing lineup of the RAV4, Highlander, and 4Runner. although exact pricing hasn't been published, and i'm not allowed to say, a nicely loaded one will be well under 30K.

Pricing for the FJ Cruiser will reflect an excellent value when it launches this spring. The FJ Cruiser 4x2 with a five-speed automatic transmission will carry a base MSRP of $21,710. Pricing for the FJ Cruiser 4x4 with a six-speed manual will be priced at $22,890 while the 4x4 with a five-speed automatic will start at $23,300.

well, considering OFFICIAL pricing hasn't been released yet, i find that awful interesting. edmund's is just going off preliminary estimates, and MSRP doesn't equal final purchase price. click on the "Price It!" link from that article, and tell me where it leads.

much like any new car, demand may cause the vehicles to sell higher than they normally would once the dust settles. not everyone will buy the fully loaded, top of the line model, and you'll likely see the average selling price for all FJs falling into the 26-27K range.

if those prices arent official, why would they be so exact... i.e 21,710 vs 22000

looks official to me.

oh and this kind os seals it

TORRANCE, Calif., Jan. 4 — Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., announced manufacturer's suggested retail prices (MSRP) today for the all-new 2007 FJ Cruiser sport utility vehicle (SUV) and all-new 2007 Yaris liftback and sedans. Additionally, the all-new Yaris Sedan and sporty S Sedan made their world debut at a press conference today at the 2006 Greater Los Angeles Auto Show.

ok nevermind then, i thought in the edmunds video it started at like 24k, and i was thinking a 4x2 at that price

if zeroday's numbers are on then that is even better... if they produce a bunch and there isnt a markup then that's a steal for that power

now about that white top...

let me amend it...the edmund's article was published before the official price was released (early this year). i looked at the article's date which was end of december last year. the prices were not official, so their stated MSRP would not be accurate.

my point and argument stands correct...the FJ will be below 30K nicely loaded.

the lack of space in the rear and poor side/rear visibility are a big minus.

I understand your point. I don't necessarily think people looking at the FJ will also cross shop the Element, but I do think Element shoppers will look at the FJ (along with a lot of other SUVs), not for its off-road prowess, but for everything else that it and the Element offer in terms of utility.

Seeing and sitting in this thing was one of my personal highlights from the autoshow this year.

I would seriously consider getting one after my Pathfinder poops out.

From Autoblog...

Following the success of the FJ Cruiser TRD limited edition, Toyota is pleased to introduce the FJ Cruiser Trail Teams Edition. White roof and body with black trim pieces sets this FJ apart from the rest. Standard features include specially-tuned Bilstein shock absorbers, BF Goodrich All-Terrain Tires with custom 16-inch TRD alloy wheels, Cyclone air cleaner, differential lock and A-TRAC, TRD exhaust system, rock rails, all-weather floor mats, front bumper-mounted auxiliary lights, and front and rear skid plates. Only 3,200 units will be produced in 2008. Pricing will be announced closer to launch in early February.

Sexy. Sometimes I regret not overstretching myself a little for the TRD edition. I see them a lot in LA and its mmmmmm. As much as I dont like white cars, this white/black deal is kinda doing it for me.

I didnt read through the previous 4 pages, but has anyone seen last years TRD edition FJ Cruiser? It looks to be the same package as the Trails FJ, but instead it had dark gray wheels, and a black roof/black body scheme. It also was TRD badged

'Final Edition' special marks the end of Toyota's retro SUV. Will you miss it?

There are plenty of SUVs about these days. State-of-the-art styling, advanced technology, premium interiors… they’re all very competitive.

If, however, none of that appeals to you, then Toyota still offers FJ Cruiser. Yes, the same FJ Cruiser that seems to have hung around since 2005.

But not for much longer. This is the last one Toyota’s making. This final edition – aptly named, um, the Final Edition – promises more than ever before. Available in an attention-grabbing beige paintjob with 20in wheels, there’s a 4.0-litre V6 under the bonnet paired with a five-speed automatic gearbox.

As that spec suggests, the FJ Cruiser has never made it to the UK, but did gain appreciation in America for its retro styling, originally created in homage to the iconic FJ40 off-roader from the 1960s. It was based on the Toyota 4Runner, but never shared the same success: the Cruiser was slow, cheaply made, expensive to run, difficult to park – you get the idea.

But it also made an impact in Japan, being released in right-hand drive in 2010. Japan will be the only country blessed with this Final Edition, too. The left-hand-drive model was discontinued in 2014, although many are still available through Toyota for up to $40,000.

There have been other FJ Cruiser specials over the years, including a TRD performance version and more off-road capable cars. But one thing’s stayed the same: its retro styling. A baton that Honda is only too happy to pick up if Toyota’s putting it down…
