The styling certainly isn't exciting. But keep in ming who this car is aimed at. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the current Gen Coralla now the 2nd best selling car in the US. This new model wil only strengthen that position.

What Would Don Draper Do?
i like it!
i was expecting something like this (a camry/yaris lookalike). i think the sedan looks better than the civic sedan though i think the mazda3 still looks the best.
the interior and exterior on that auris hatchback looked sharp too.
looks like toyota's got another winner.

Is that a Toyota? Scion? Lexus?

Anyway, this one looks like a winner to me, for its targeted market. in fact it could even steal sales from the camry (for those who want to save $). much better than the current civic, especially the interior. I don't know Honda is thinking with that interior design. yeah I can see design elements from the IS too. Toyota is meant to be relatively conservative. It has the Scion brand to experiment.
I predict it certainly won't be as fun as the civic to drive, but for daily commute it will be a pleasant vehicle for most.

The rearend has some proportions similar to the Mazda 6 just a little, but the new Corolla with a Navi? It just doesn't fit right.
If I see a built in Navi for the Kio Rio then wow.

The pics are from malaysia area where compact cars seem to have nav so I'm not sure how accurate the nav is, although I don't see any reason why it couldn't have it.
What I'm not liking is the rear does remind me kinda of the current version which isn't that great and the A/C controls look like what they have in the yaris which are big cheap plastic knobs instead of something more upscale. I hope the US interior is like that of the Auris.

accord, civic, cr-v have all been beaten senseless with the ugly stick with each redesign

Think the civic coupe looks decent cause it has an upscale rear combined with the side profile, but the civic sedan isn't anything great and neither is the interior in general for all models. I could only agree when the Mazda 3 beat the new Civic from day one in reviews, as it should, the Mazda 3 is superior in design inside and out as well as sportyness.
The corolla design has a more stylish design than the civic sedan imo. The front of the civic sedan is lifeless. If I had to pick between the two, which was the sport compact, it wouldn't be the Honda.

Think its kinda of a mix of the two, leaning towards avalon. It would have made more sense for the camry to be a sharper version of the avalon, and the corolla a sharper version of the camry as buyers get younger. But the camry seems to be the sportiest of all which is too bad for the sport compact segment. I guess they can play their scion card, but the Tc isn't anything hot either.

Toyota Corolla AE86 Trueno...
...possibly making a comeback?
From Autoblog...
From Autoblog...
Our pals at Winding Road just passed along a note that Toyota might be considering re-releasing the driftastic Corolla Sport. The endearingly tossable rear-wheel-drive AE86 platform was known by many names around the world: Corolla Levin, Sprinter Trueno, Corolla GT and of course the Corolla Sport in the States. Particularly in GT-S trim, it was one of the few sporty models to make its way into Toyota dealerships, alongside the Celica and Supra, and eventually the MR2, which essentially replaced it. But it was fun and cheap, and that set it apart. Available from 1983-1987, it was one of the last affordable rear-drive cars that could take a pounding, making it a favorite of budget street racers and the emerging drift scene in the '80s and '90s.
It looks like the suits at Toyota are close to greenlighting a new version. Apparently the idea has been floated several times over the years with mixed reaction, but it seems to be gaining some momentum lately. There is reportedly some disagreement within the corporate ranks over whether or not it would actually sell, but a few officials appear to be backing it strongly. Must be some Initial D fans up in there. A modernized Hachi-Roku would have to find a suitable rwd platform, but would be a blast to see in the lineup again. Of course, we've had access to AE86 in games like Need For Speed for years now, but getting our hands on the real deal would be sweet. We'll keep our fingers crossed on this one.

We can't even get a Civic Si, Neon SRT4 or MazdaSpeed 3 for 25K or less Canadian. and those are on cheaper FWD platforms.

LOL@ the :ib:s
That article made it seem like the Corolla was actually good b/c it was rwd. The MR2 Spyder was RWD (and mid-engine to boot!) and it was slow.
