Please get your eyes checked. The roofline is totally different, as is the grill, the wheel to body gap, the headlights, etc.

The above is probably the Japan-Spec Camry coming out in Jan of 2006.

Game over. The current Camry already sells well. Now an actual good looking Camry will devour the competition in sales number.

My thoughts exactly. I don't like the jellybean shape of the current Camry. And this one, while still super generic, atleast has attractive creases and a fresh grill. They'll fly off the lot.

wow, i wouldve never said this before but..
why buy a GS when you can get a fully loaded camry??

camry SE with everything, would probably be as refined as a lexus, knowing toyota.. only difference is that the camry will be a front wheel drive, but the price is gonna be a hell lot cheaper!

AT is combined super intelligent 5 fast AT " 5super ECT ", similarly in the 4WD model. Both drive system environmental efficiency clears highest new 4 stars at present time. The 4WD model achieves also fuel economy standard, can take part even in benefit of the favorable treatment tax system.
Interesting. Hope the 4WD makes it to NA.

Not loving it just yet. Its better than the current car but it doesn't look like a completely new car, more like a new front and rear on the same profile. Hopefully the next gen solara will actually be an attractive car.

Lets see, when they drop the 3.5L that gets 32 MPG Hwy in the Avolon and propels it to 60 in the mid-7s and the XLE version will have 90% of the lux/fit and finish of the ES and they will have a huge winner, not to mention the ability to buy it close to or at invoice after no more than a year from intro and I think they have a grand-slam on their hands.

I am still searching for my next work travel car, and though the TSX has fought off all comers for the top of the list for over a year (my current travel car with 225k shows no signs of giving up) the new Camry seems like it might give it a heck of a run. I would never consider it over the TSX if it was my only car but for what I use it for this certainly has my interest up.

Well, let's wait and see. This car's XLE version will be very nice. But a new ES will be out in the spring too. Will the ES be taken up a notch in style, refinement, power, etc? I can't see the ES not getting a version of the 3.5 found in the Avalon, IS, etc., making more than the Avalon's 268HP but less than the IS's 306HP.

Haven't been too impressed with the interiors Toyota has been putting into their new cars either, hopefully they get this car right. Think this new exterior is still in the same league as the refreshed Accords exterior.

Sure the ES will make a big jump but my point was the current XLE Camry sits at about 90% of the lux of the ES and I expect that to stay the same. The ES and Camry will both have the 3.5L, I think the ES and Camry will have the same tune, same tune as the Avy but may vary a couple of HP due to exhast placement etc. This is based on the fact the 3.3 in the Camry (where available) and ES have the same tune and I think the days of 2 separate V6s in the Camry line are gone.

I can't remember where I said it, but I posted on another forum that the new Camry interior is nice, but "more importantly," check out those "state-of-the-art cupholders" !!!

Quoting my own jokes is fun.

Interior is decent, but not as good as the Accord's. Now that more detail is shown about the exterior, it loses some of its initial wow factor. It's still better than the Accord's exterior, though. And a lot better than most family sedans out there too.

I agree, the current Accords interior is still nicer which is pretty amazing. I'm not liking their use of wood, especially by the door pulls and the I really don't like how the center console around the shifter is so damn wide to accommodate the cup holders.

It is better than the current buick interior design they are using but again they went with that crap silver plastic that they have in the Avalon and Solara. Hopefully the SE model will have a sportier interior.

Very nice interior. I see some similarities in with the GS (especially in the doors). I like it, damnit. The dash and console is very Lexus like.

Toyota seems to be going for the Buick crowd more everyday. What happens if one day the Buick crowd wakes up and wants something else?

It's going to happen someday. At some point the "old crowd" is going to have been raised on smaller cars and minivans and not big luxobarges like the Boomer's parents and the Boomers themselves. Probably about 25 years from now.

I've wanted to email my mom a link to this thread, but I'm afraid that she'll want another camry. She's had a 91 (had 171K miles before she sold it), and now has a 2003 SE. Yeah, she got the sport edition w/ the spoiler and moonroof

The funny thing is, at heart, most of the country wants a Buick. Not a Buick in the sense of a Lacrosse, but in the sense that most Americans want a large, quiet, reliable, attractive car. Buick has embodied that for years, to where we use the term ubiquitously. So the Buick "crowd," is most middle aged people today. The Camry is the new "Buick," where the car's styling doesn't offend ('cause it's bland), and the powerplants are capable, the quality is high. That's been Buick of the last 30yrs. Prior to that, they've always been truly aspirational vehicles. But I've seen kids (16-21) get excited about this car the same way my dad was probably really excited when he bought his Regal 30 yrs. ago. Those certain qualities appeal to all age groups, not just the old folks. So, basically, there won't be anyone "waking up" because most consumers today look don't want anything else.

Not quite. I for one think the door pulls are ugly, and the seats are too flat and wide. This is definitely NOT a sporting car at all. I really like the gauges and the steering wheel (minus the wood).
However, the Accord won't be going down. It's not like all the Accord owners are going to rush out and buy a Camry.
Also, the Camry has always been slightly more expensive than the Accord.

word.

and while these pix look all nice, remember, these pix are of the top of the line XLE model with possibly, every option available shown. i wouldnt be surprised if the new camry priced like the picture shows it costs 30,000 flat...or even more? tat's lexus territory, and to buy buttered up loaded camry, im not so sure.

Actually if you go on Carsdirect.com and price a fully loaded XLE V6 Camry it will be around $31K. And that's not including those special dealer options, which can push the price over $35K easily.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the next gen Camry XLE with all the factory options come out to around $35K.

If you happen to have a family and somehow your balls are still in tact, you buy an Accord and fling it around some corners when nobody's looking. Buy the Camry if you hate driving.

I know that's a gross overgeneralization but there's more truth in it than bs.
