203/206hp for the i4, 301hp for the V6, yes it makes more hp than the "performance sedan" TLX.

haha which makes me wonder why Acura didn't just stuff the RLX's 310hp into the TLX..it's not like the RLX is relevant anymore....if at all.

I also often wonder why they didn't do that. 310hp sounds so much better than 290. Hell even the MDX could use the extra 20hp but now with the hybrid model I doubt they would do it anymore. Maybe they plan for a TLX type S with the MDX hybrid powertrain and didn't want to go too close in power? I don't know. I also wonder, what makes the RLX J35 different than the one from the rest of the lineup (TLX and MDX)

Yea...anything over 300hp sounds better on paper. I read what the differences were but I forgot. At the very least, the RLX's engine is actually a tiny bit bigger (3476cc vs 3471cc).

https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...mry-trd-drive/

It used to be that if you wanted a "sporty" Toyota Camry, you bought the six-cylinder version. You also (hopefully) understood that you weren't really buying a performance-oriented Camry, per se, but simply the most powerful Camry. There is a difference. The 2020 Camry TRD, however, is the first of Toyota's long-standing bread-and-butter mid-size sedans that one could actually construe as "sporty."

Since its introduction in 1983, the closest the Camry has ever come to letting its hair down was a dealer-installed bolt-on supercharger kit for the V-6 model, sold by Toyota's in-house performance arm, Toyota Racing Development, better known as TRD. The Camry's existence was otherwise vanilla, delivering customers reliable, inoffensive transportation and nothing more while riding a wave of ubiquity to a reputation for being automotive wallpaper. There is plenty of "more" in the Camry TRD, however, as it represents a near-total performance makeover of the current model, itself the most driver-focused version ever. We even sampled it at the unlikeliest venue for a Camry: Texas Motor Speedway.

The TRD's front brake rotors are 0.9 inch larger in diameter than those on the next-sportiest Camry, the XSE V-6 model and are squeezed by two-piston calipers instead of single-piston units. Toyota also has retuned the feel of the brake pedal. Stiffer springs and stiffer, larger-diameter anti-roll bars (27.0 millimeters thick versus 25.4 millimeters on the XSE) increase the Camry's resistance to body roll by 44 percent in front and 67 percent in the rear. The suspension changes are matched by stiffer underbody braces and a V-brace behind the rear seats (as a result, those seats cannot fold as they do on the regular Camry). TRD also fits dampers with internal return springs and revised valving compared with the units on lesser Camrys.

If this sounds a bit ridiculous in the context of a Camry, we're not done yet. Just look at the matte-black, TRD-specific 19-inch wheels. Not only do they look tough, each one is 3.1 pounds lighter and half an inch wider than the XSE's 19-inch rollers; Toyota also wraps them with Bridgestone Potenza summer tires. And then there is the fast-and-furious body kit, which is includes gloss-black lower-body add-ons—complete with a red pinstripe—and a rear wing supported by two struts.

You've probably by now picked up on our skepticism for this hotted-up Camry. But this sedan indeed is unlike anything wearing the Camry badge that's come before it. (Well, short of the Camry-labeled Toyota NASCAR racers, but those have about as much in common with the production car as this writer does with Brad Pitt.) After back-to-back spins on flat, uneventful roads outside Dallas, Texas, and an afternoon's worth of track driving, we can say the TRD is appreciably more focused than its siblings, if not exactly that much spicier than other uplevel mid-size family cars.

With Texas Motor Speedway's 1.5-mile oval off-limits to us, we got to fling the TRD around an autocross course on the track's infield. This experience threw the differences between the Camry TRD and the lesser XSE into stark relief. Body control is markedly improved, a direct result of the TRD's 0.6-inch-lower ride height and fatter anti-roll bars. Twirling the steering wheel invites an immediate response from the front tires, and the summer rubber adds palpable bite to the car's entry into corners relative to the XSE's gooey all-season tires.

Braking feel in the TRD also is more consistent, with much better feel of the brakes' initial bite making its way to the pedal during hard stopping. The cars we drove weren't equipped with special brake pads, either, so color us impressed by the Camry TRD's relative resistance to brake fade over the XSE, which, by the end of the day, had developed a notably soft pedal. The Camry TRD genuinely is fun to throw around, though the steering ratio is no quicker than the regular model's and TRD drivers aren't given much additional steering feedback.

The only other big miss is that the TRD doesn't receive more horsepower to back up its almost absurdly boy-racer appearance, which, aside from the red seatbelts, actually does look better in person than in photos. The TRD employs the same 301-hp 3.5-liter V-6 as the regular six-cylinder Camry XSE and XLE models. The engine calibration is even the same, as is the eight-speed automatic transmission's tuning, which means the gearbox still is rather reluctant to downshift for spirited driving.

In a non-TRD 2018 Camry we tested, that same V-6 and automatic transmission yanked the front-wheel-drive sedan to 60 mph in a swift 5.8 seconds. The TRD surely should put up similar numbers, but the car shouldering the burden of elevating the Camry's station is practically begging for more oomph. The V-6's soundtrack partly atones for its lack of additional power. Six-cylinder engines are fast going extinct in the mid-size class, with most of the Toyota's competitors having moved to smaller, turbocharged four-cylinder engines, which tend to be effective if soulless in tone. This Camry actually sounds wonderfully throaty when you get on it, thanks to TRD's cat-back exhaust system.

The Camry TRD's performance makeover was revealed to be almost too serious on a brief drive on normal roads outside Texas Motor Speedway. The ride is Viagra firm, and the summer tires generate more pavement slap and thrum at freeway speed than do the all-seasons on the normal Camry. While the spicy exhaust's extra volume falls into the background most of the time or is overwhelmed by the TRD's considerable tire noise, we found that it generated some booming and droning at around 60 mph with the engine turning at just 1500 rpm.

Yet, given this sedan's general competence, though not sports-sedan levels of performance, these trade-offs mostly leave us asking why. Toyota didn't seem to have an answer beyond that it could build the TRD and thus push the Camry's envelope. So it did. No competitor offers something so similarly hardcore, aside from the soon-to-die Ford Fusion Sport, which flexes a 325-hp twin-turbo V-6 and all-wheel drive. Hyundai's all-new 2020 Sonata is sure to spawn at least a somewhat-high-performance variant, which could give the Toyota a run for its money.

The Camry TRD is successful mainly in proving that the Camry is more capable than you might realize. We doubt any of the 6000 or so Camry TRDs that Toyota plans to build for the 2020 model year will ever end up at a racetrack or even a parking-lot autocross. Buyers will dig its look and its aggressive sound. Perhaps the most exciting thing about the sportiest Camry (finally) being a real thing is that, at $31,995, the TRD is now the least expensive way to get a V-6 in the Camry.

All flash and no go. Exhaust looks good but the wing is unnecessary and I hate that two-tone roof & side.

Ironic because yesterday I saw a new white XSE modded with limo tint, suspension drop, large 20"+ wheels with stretched tires, negative rear camber, smoked tails, and best yet, highlighter yellow brake calipers. They should have waited for the TRD!

Interesting. I also had a choice of a Kia, but was too lazy to change it.

https://www.netcarshow.com/toyota/2021-camry/

Turning 37 can be a tough transition for some, but for the Toyota Camry, it's a celebratory marker for this landmark model's largest, most diverse lineup ever. The first-ever XSE Hybrid grade combines the Camry's most fuel-efficient powertrain with its highest expression of the sport and luxury blend. All 2021 Camry models debut Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+, the automaker's newest version of the groundbreaking driver assist technology suite that includes automatic emergency braking.

All Toyota Camry models for 2021 also get an added dose of tech and luxury with a new floating multimedia screen in 7-inch or 9-inch sizes, plus a new herringbone seat pattern on the XLE grade. Capping off the long list of enhancements, restyled front ends lend greater distinction among Camry grades.

This expansion for 2021 follows a year in which Camry added an all-wheel drive option and its first-ever TRD performance model. The "L" grade has been discontinued for 2021. The LE now becomes the point of entry for the model line.

All told, the 2021 Camry offers 17 different choices in the midsize sedan segment today. Those choices include:
  • Three V6 grades - XLE, XSE and TRD
  • Five 4-cyl. FWD grades - LE, XLE, SE, SE Nightshade, XSE
  • Five 4-cyl. AWD grades - LE, XLE, SE, SE Nightshade, XSE
  • Four hybrid grades - LE, XLE, SE, XSE (new)
The wide array of choices plus Toyota Camry's alluring, coupe-inspired design and renowned Toyota quality and value are reasons why Camry maintains leadership in the mid-size sedan category. Camry holds its status as America's favorite midsize sedan for 18 years running and, as well, is one of the longest-running nameplates in the auto industry.

Bold New Look Up Front

A new look up front distinguishes the comfort-oriented LE and XLE grades from the sport-oriented SE and XSE for 2021. A new front fascia for the Toyota Camry LE and XLE grades shows a more defined lower intake area. The gas version of the LE grade also debuts a new 17-inch alloy wheel design, while the XLE features a redesigned 18-inch alloy wheel. The SE and XSE grades show off a bolder redesigned lower fascia shape featuring a honeycomb style grille and side vent inserts, plus new side vent accents.

Accentuating the revised design, the 2021 Camry augments its exterior paint palette with new Blueprint replacing Blue Streak Metallic and a new, exclusive color for the Camry TRD, Ice Edge with a two-tone Midnight Black Metallic roof. The XSE grades now offer the two-tone Supersonic Red with Midnight Black Metallic roof combination.

The performance-tuned Camry TRD, which debuted for 2020, keeps its exclusive, aero-enhanced design. The 2021 Toyota Camry TRD now comes standard with Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, plus heated exterior mirrors. Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert are now standalone options on LE, SE and SE Nightshade grades. XSE and XLE grades already have those features as standard.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+

Toyota is a pioneering force in the adoption of Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) ever since it made the advanced safety features standard across many of its model lineup for 2017, five years ahead of the voluntary commitment by many OEMs with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to make it standard on virtually all light vehicles. For 2021, the Camry is the first Toyota model to include TSS 2.5+, the next phase in Toyota's evolution of safety systems. A number of functions that are part of the Toyota Safety Sense have been enhanced.

For starters, the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD), features multiple enhancements. By enhancing the system capabilities, it is now possible for the system to help detect not only the vehicle ahead but also a preceding bicyclist in daytime and even a preceding pedestrian in low-light conditions. TSS 2.5+ also enhances the PCS w/PD system with intersection support. At intersections, the system may detect an oncoming vehicle or pedestrian when performing a left-hand turn and may provide audio/visual alerts and automatic braking in certain conditions. Additional PCS functions include emergency steering assist, which is designed to stabilize the driver's emergency steering maneuvers within their lane while avoiding a preceding pedestrian, bicyclist or vehicle.

Camrys that come equipped with Full-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), which can activate the feature above 30 mph, have a system designed to perform vehicle-to-vehicle distance controls down to 0 mph and resume from a stop. DRCC also includes a new feature that allows for smoother overtaking of slower vehicles. If traveling behind a vehicle traveling slower than the preset speed, once the driver engages the turn signal with steering input the system will provide an initial increase in acceleration in preparation for changing lanes; after changing lanes, the vehicle will continue acceleration until it reaches the preset driving speed.

Lane Departure Alert is designed to help notify the driver via steering wheel vibrations or audible alert if it senses the vehicle is leaving the lane without engaging a turn signal. When DRCC is set and engaged, Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) is designed to assist the driver by providing a slight steering force to help center the vehicle in its lane using visible lane markers or a preceding vehicle.

Additional TSS 2.5+ features include Automatic High Beams, which detects preceding or oncoming vehicles and automatically switches between high beam and low beam headlights. Road Sign Assist (RSA), which is designed to recognize certain road sign information using a forward-facing camera and display them on the multi-information display (MID). With DRCC engaged and activated, RSA can also adjust speed up to the posted speed limit if driving slower or down to the posted speed limit if driving faster than posted.

Toyota's Rear Seat Reminder will come standard on all 2021 Camrys. The feature notes whether a rear door was opened within 10 minutes of the vehicle being turned on, or at any time after the vehicle has been turned on, with a reminder message in the instrument cluster after the engine is turned off, accompanied by multitone chimes. The 2021 Camry is the second Toyota to feature Rear Seat Reminder, as it already comes standard on the 2020 Toyota Highlander.

In addition to the TSS 2.5+ system, to help Toyota Camry drivers change lanes with confidence, Blind Spot Monitor is designed to help detect and warn you of vehicles approaching or positioned in the adjacent lanes. Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) can offer added peace of mind by helping to detect vehicles approaching from either side while backing out and alerting you with a visual and audible warning. These features come standard on XLE and XSE grades and are available on certain LE and SE grades.

Camry All-Wheel Drive is Smarter All-Wheel Drive

The all-wheel drive option that Camry debuted for 2020 is projected to account for about 15 percent of Camry's 2021 sales. The Toyota-developed Dynamic Torque Control AWD system is available as a standalone option for the four-cylinder LE, XLE, SE, SE Nightshade and XSE grades. Notably, the Toyota Camry AWD is a North America-only model developed in the U.S. and assembled exclusively at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky. Camry AWD uses the high-efficiency 2.5-liter Dynamic Force four-cylinder engine teamed with an eight-speed Direct-Shift automatic transmission.

Dynamic Torque Control AWD provides effective traction for inclement and slippery weather while minimizing AWD's typical drag on fuel economy. The system can direct up to 50 percent of engine torque to the rear wheels, in response to acceleration from a start or slippage at the front wheels.

When AWD isn't needed, the electromagnetic controlled coupling on the rear drive axle can disengage the propeller shaft to prioritize fuel efficiency. The AWD is designed to re-engage in an instant when needed and its operation is transparent to the driver and passengers.

The addition of AWD does not affect passenger space, trunk room, ride comfort, cabin quietness or vehicle agility. Inside, the car has the same rear seat hip point height as the Camry Hybrid.

The transformation to AWD adds just 165 lbs. (LE grade; other grade weights vary) over FWD versions. The suspension tuning, wheels, and tires differentiating the Camry model grades carry over to the AWD versions. That means, for example, the Toyota Camry XSE grade features the same sport-tuned suspension and 19-inch wheels in both FWD and AWD versions.

All AWD grades offer an optional Cold-Weather Package, which adds heated seats and mirrors on the LE; heated seats, mirrors and steering wheel on the SE; and heated steering wheel on the XLE and XSE, as heated seats and mirrors are already standard on those grades. All other standard and optional features are shared with the Camry FWD model grades. For 2021, The Cold Weather Package will now be a standalone option for FWD and Hybrid grades as well.

Camry TRD: Track-Tuned, Road-Refined

Initially, the "TRD" identifier for Toyota Racing Development was seen only on off-road toughened Toyota trucks and SUVs. Yet, TRD has been deeply involved with all facets of Toyota motorsports for more than 40 years, with a trophy case full from victories in rallying, IMSA® GTO and GTP® road racing, NASCAR®, and NHRA® Funny Car racing.

The sophisticated, high-strength TNGA-K platform that underpins the Camry was like an open invitation for TRD to rev up the sedan's performance. The result was the first-ever Camry TRD performance model for 2020, and this road-tamer continues for 2021 with upgraded standard features, including Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert. The JBL Premium Audio system is now an option on Toyota Camry TRD just as it is on other grades.

The Camry TRD is equipped exclusively with a direct-injected, 301-horsepower DOHC 3.5-liter V-6 teamed with the Direct-Shift eight-speed automatic transmission featuring sport mode and paddle shifters. A specially-tuned TRD cat-back dual exhaust system conveys a throatier idle and acceleration tone.

The TRD Look + Function

The aerodynamic body kit, which includes a front splitter, side aero skirts, trunk lid spoiler, and rear diffuser, not only adds a track-ready look but also improves high speed vehicle stability. Camry TRD wears a gloss black front grille with a sport mesh insert and black exterior badging.

Distinctive red pinstriping, red painted brake calipers, red TRD badging and polished stainless steel TRD exhaust tips complete the road-hungry look. The 2021 Camry TRD is available in solid Midnight Black Metallic, or in two-tone schemes featuring new Ice Edge or Wind Chill Pearl with a Midnight Black Metallic roof.

In the cabin, the TRD treatment outfits the Toyota Camry with Black Sport SofTex®-trimmed front seats with red accents and red-stitched TRD embroidered headrests. The leather-wrapped steering wheel also has red stitching, and even the seatbelts are red. A shift knob with an embossed TRD logo, along with unique TRD floor and trunk mats, and a unique TRD meter with red-illuminated accents and multi-information display (MID) start-up animation complete the cabin upgrades.

TRD Handling Thrills

TRD engineers developed this special Camry's dynamic characteristics through extensive testing at Toyota Arizona Proving Ground, TMC Higashi-Fuji Proving Ground (Japan), and MotorSport Ranch (Texas). Chassis enhancements abound, including thicker underbody braces that increase torsional rigidity.

The TRD-tuned suspension lowers Camry by 0.6 inches for a reduced center of gravity and more aggressive stance. Stiffer coil springs and sway bars increase roll stiffness by 44 percent in the front and 67 percent in the rear. A unique set of TRD shock absorbers, 19 x 8.5-inch matte-black alloy wheels, and optional Bridgestone Potenza 235/40R19 summer tires complete a chassis package that improves body control, handling agility and steering precision.

The Camry TRD's front brakes are larger with 12.9-inch diameter rotors and dual-piston calipers, compared to 12.0-inch rotors and single piston calipers on the Toyota Camry XSE grade. Brake performance is tuned to provide more direct feedback.

Foundation for Agility and Ride Comfort

Extensive use of high-tensile-strength steel in the TNGA-K platform, along with innovative fastening methods including laser screw welding and advanced adhesives, give Camry its rock-solid feeling on the road. Optimally tuned MacPherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension endow the Camry with a ride-handling balance befitting luxury vehicles. (SE and XSE grades have sport-tuned springs and shocks.)

Camry has long been renowned for quietness in its class, and the current-generation model improved on that by incorporating noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) countermeasures previously found exclusively on luxury models. Extensive sound absorbing insulation includes foam or vibration-dampening materials throughout the vehicle, along with a thicker dash silencer mat across the entire firewall section. A special vibration-damping coating is applied over a wider area of the underfloor, and noise-proofing material encompasses more surface area under the headliner.

Striking Yet Elegant Cabin

The Toyota Camry relays information to the driver via three available displays. New for 2021, a floating 7- or 9-inch central touch-screen display, like that of the new-generation Toyota RAV4, combines audio and navigation. Customizable features and smart phone-like touch screen icons ensure familiar and convenient operation.

For even greater functionality, Camry also offers an available 7-inch multi-information display within the instrument cluster. Available on XLE and XSE, a 10-inch color Head-Up Display (HUD) projects vital information, including speed and turn-by-turn navigation directions, onto the lower portion of the windshield.

The Camry's interior melds functionality, elegant styling, and impeccable craftsmanship. The dash design gives the driver a sporty cockpit-type feel while treating both the driver and the front passenger to expansive outward visibility. A sweeping character line flows down from the instrument cluster and bisects the center console waterfall.

Surfaces throughout the cabin employ soft-touch premium materials. New interior trim for 2021 in all grades gives a sophisticated, higher-tech look with linear dark, wood inlay or patterned metal depending on the model grade.

Long-distance seat comfort, a Camry hallmark, has been combined with ratcheted seat design for 2021. Exquisite stitching on the front- and rear-seat surfaces, one example of the high level of craftsmanship, is found throughout the vehicle. New for 2021, the XLE grade features a luxurious looking textured herringbone seat pattern. Ventilated front seats are available on the XLE and XSE.

Interior color choices, depending on exterior color, include Ash, Macadamia, or Black. The sport-oriented XSE grade also offers an exclusive Cockpit Red interior for a touch of exotic sports car flavor.

High Power, High Efficiency, Low Cost of Operation

The 2021 Camry offers a choice of three powertrains: 2.5-liter Dynamic Force four-cylinder, 3.5-liter V-6 and next-generation Toyota Hybrid System (THS II). The Dynamic Force 2.5-liter engine is a strong but smooth operator, yielding an impressive 203 hp at 6,600 rpm and 184 lb.-ft. of peak torque at 5,000 rpm (206 hp and 186 lb.-ft. for XSE grade, which uses a dual-outlet exhaust). Most AWD grades have 202 hp, while the Toyota Camry XSE AWD grade has 205 hp with dual exhaust.

The Camry's four-cylinder engine uses a very high compression ratio (13:1) and Toyota's innovative D-4S fuel injection, which employs both direct injection and additional port injectors. The engine is chock-full of Toyota's most advanced technologies, including Dual VVT-i with VVT-iE (Variable Valve Timing intelligent system by Electric motor) and laser-clad valve seats. A variable cooling system, variable oil pump and a cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system all contribute to the engine's high thermal efficiency and outstanding fuel economy.

Genuine V-6 Performance at a High Level

The 2021 Toyota Camry is one of the few midsize sedans to still offer a V-6 engine, and this one is a gem. The 24-valve, DOHC 3.5-liter engine is equipped with the D-4S direct injection system, along with a specially-developed VVT-iW (Variable Valve Timing-intelligent Wide) variable valve timing system for the intake, with VVT-i on the exhaust. The VVT-iW system can switch the engine to the Atkinson cycle, which reduces pumping losses by delayed closing of the intake valves. The bottom line: it goes fast but sips gas.

Output is outstanding, with 301 horsepower at 6,600 rpm and 267 lb.-ft. of peak torque at 4,700 rpm.

Direct Shift 8-speed Automatic

In all Camry gas grades, both the 2.5-liter engine and the 3.5-liter V-6 are teamed with the Direct Shift eight-speed automatic transmission that delivers satisfyingly crisp-yet-smooth, quick-shifting to deliver an exemplary blend of performance and refinement. Close mid-range ratios improve passing performance, while the wide range of torque converter lock-up yields for a more direct driving feel while contributing to enhanced fuel efficiency. Control logic optimizes precise matching of engine torque on downshifts for smoother transitions.

Toyota Hybrid System

The Camry Hybrid powertrain is the most efficient and powerful offered since the Hybrid debuted for 2007. The super-efficient Toyota Hybrid System (THS II) combines the output of the 2.5-liter Dynamic Force four-cylinder engine and an electric motor (MG1), while using that motor and a second motor (MG2) for hybrid battery charging. In the Hybrid, the gas engine employs an even higher 14:1 compression ratio and is tuned to produce 176 hp and 163 lb.-ft. of torque. Paired with the 118 hp electric motor, the total Hybrid system net output is 208 hp.

The hybrid system, however, gives the Toyota Camry Hybrid performance similar to the four-cylinder gas version. Sequential Shiftmatic technology allows the driver to "shift" the electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (ECVT). It mimics a quick-shifting 6-speed automatic transmission via paddle shifters (on SE and XSE grades) or with the console-mounted shift lever.

The Lithium-ion (Li-ion) hybrid battery pack is installed beneath the rear seat and does not reduce passenger room or trunk capacity. The battery's position also contributes to a lower center of gravity. Along with the traditional Camry Hybrid NORMAL, ECO and EV drive system modes, a SPORT mode allows for an increase in power from the hybrid system for improved acceleration response relative to throttle pedal input.

The clever Auto Glide Control (AGC) feature helps to enhance fuel efficiency by calculating efficient coasting logic. AGC can be activated only when the vehicle is being operated in the ECO drive mode. When activated, AGC limits the loss of vehicle speed through engine braking, acting more like a neutral gear to allow longer coasting. An AGC indicator light illuminates on the multi-information display when AGC is in operation to alert the driver of reduced engine braking.

Toyota Audio

The base Toyota Audio system for 2021 gains a new, dramatic looking and easy-to-use 7-in. floating touch screen display. The system features Android Auto™, Apple CarPlay® and Amazon Alexa® compatibility. The full-featured system includes AM/FM, SiriusXM® with 3-month All-Access trial, Siri® Eyes Free, hands-free phone capability, plus advanced voice recognition and music streaming via Bluetooth® wireless technology.

Higher grades have Toyota Audio Plus with a new 9-in. floating touch screen display. All audio systems have Connected Services trials, which include Safety Connect (1-year trial). Most grades also add Service Connect (10-year trial) and Remote Connect (1-year trial). In addition, WiFi Connect (3-month up to 2GB trial), allows up to five mobile devices to connect using 4G LTE.

Audio Plus is also offered with a JBL® 800-watt, 9-speaker premium audio, which includes a subwoofer. The JBL system is also part of the top-of-line available Premium Audio with Dynamic Navigation, which provides over-the-air updates and includes a 3-year trial.

Remote Connect provides remote start and door unlock capability, vehicle status notifications, a guest driver monitor and vehicle finder (1-year trial). Available Service Connect can provide up-to-date vehicle information on fuel level, maintenance alerts, and more.

Star Safety

All 2021 Camry models have 10 standard airbags and Toyota's Star Safety System, which includes Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist, Anti-lock Braking System, and Smart Stop Technology. All Camrys also come equipped with a standard backup camera.

Limited Warranty and ToyotaCare

Toyota's 36-month/36,000 mile basic new-vehicle warranty applies to all components other than normal wear and maintenance items. Additional 60-month warranties cover the powertrain for 60,000 miles and corrosion with no mileage limitation. On the Toyota Camry Hybrid grades, all HV components are covered under the Hybrid System Warranty for 8 years/100,000 miles. Additionally, the hybrid battery warranty is now 10 years/150,000 miles, whichever comes first. The Camry also comes standard with ToyotaCare, a plan covering normal factory-scheduled maintenance for two years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first, and 24-hour roadside assistance for two years, unlimited mileage.

The 2024 Toyota Camry is here. America’s best-selling midsize sedan for the past 21 years comes with hybrid, four- or six-cylinder powertrains. The 2024 Camry might also be the last of its kind. Toyota is working on the 2025 model.
12 photos

Toyota came up with various powertrains to match all demands for the Camry that is built on the TNGA-K (Toyota Next Generation Architecture-K) archictecture, just like the Avalon, Highlander, RAV4, and Sienna, and the upcoming Camry.

There is an electrified powertrain sporting the Toyota Hybrid System, the four- and six-cylinder engines, and customers can spec the model with either front- or rear-wheel drive. The range-topping TRD version is also on the menu. Five trims are available in the lineup, starting with the LE, SE and SE Nightshade, going through XSE to the XLE.

The Camry Hybrids come with a 2.5-liter Dynamic Force four-cylinder engine and an electric motor for a total of 208 horsepower (176 and 163 lb-ft provided by the ICE, aided by the 118-horsepower electric motor) in the LE, XLE, SE, SE Nightshade, and XSE, with either front- or all-wheel drive, plus the TRD. The system delivers 206 horsepower for the XSE, with the sound coming out of a dual-outlet exhaust.

Meanwhile, the XSE and the XLE can also get the 3.5-liter V6, which is standard for the TRD. 301 horsepower and 267 lb-ft are the figures that it brags about. Both engines get the direct-shift, eight-speed auto box.

Customers will be able to order the car in one of the 18 coolers available. The 2024 Camry comes with a slightly redesigned front fascia, with the SE and XSE sporting a honeycomb style grille and side vent inserts. The LE gets 17-inch alloys, while there are 18-inch units for the XLE.

The Nightshade Edition, accounting for 5% of the Camry’s sales in the United States last year, gets black-trimmed headlights and taillights and a radiator grille finished in black.

It is easy to spot the TRD, though, since it gets aero-enhanced looks, a gloss-black front splitter, side aero skirts, and a rear diffuser with red pin striping and gloss-black rear spoiler. Contrasting red stitching over black upholstery enhances its sporty nature.

On board the Camry, there is either the 7-inch or the 9-inch touchscreen, combined with a 4.2- or 7-inch digital instrument cluster. A color head-up display comes for extra money.

Toyota makes promises about sophisticated tech looks, as well as soft-touch premium materials, bringing either wood inlay or patterned metal, depending on the specification. The XLE and XSE get ventilated front seats.

The 2024 Toyota Camry and Camry Hybrid should hit dealerships across America in September of 2023 with a MRSP of $26,420 for the front-wheel drive Camry LE. The LE with all-wheel drive will start at $27,820, while the V6-powered TRD’s MRSP will be of $33,485.

America's best-selling midsize sedan is living its last months of glory before the 2025 redesigned model shows up.

Let's cut the chatter and say it up front: the Japanese automaker kills all other drivetrain options (V6, TRD, etc.) in favor of exclusively selling the latest Camry with the 5th-gen Toyota Hybrid System. So, take it or leave it; that's how the XV80 ninth global generation rolls.

It was developed and designed in America to try and show that passenger cars, in general, and mid-size four-door sedans, in particular, are not dead or on life support just yet. It is also manufactured in the US and aims to keep its title of best-selling sedan with more power, striking good looks, feature-packed convenience, and capable handling.

Toyota uses for the first time in a sedan the fifth-generation Toyota Hybrid System (THS 5) – a 2.5-liter inline-four mated to a couple of electric motors with slightly different outputs for the FWD (225 combined hp) and all-wheel drive (232 combined hp) versions. The Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system works in conjunction with an HEV system that was specifically tuned by engineers to "reduce engine RPMs and increase power from the traction battery to provide satisfying acceleration and torque feel."

Additionally, the eAWD system is also available for the first time on all trim levels - LE, SE, XLE, and XSE. The first units of the new iteration will reach nationwide dealerships next spring, with the 2025 Camry bringing a design by CALTY's Newport Beach, California, and Ann Arbor, Michigan, studios. It mirrors the latest evolution of Toyota's style seen on the Prius or Crown models and features a sleek approach with slim LED lights all around. The SE and XSE grades have a sporty-oriented approach, and all trims are available with the new Ocean Gem and Heavy Metal colors.

Inside, depending on the grade choice, there are SofTex-trimmed seats or Dinamica microfiber-trimmed seats, for example. All trims come standard with a smart key with a push-to-start button and a dual-zone automatic climate control system with rear air vents, for example. A 7-inch digital instrument cluster is offered on LE and SE variants, while the XLE and XSE get a larger 12.3-inch fully digital gauge cluster and an optional 10-inch Head-Up Display.

Also, the Toyota Audio Multimedia System starts with an 8-inch display. Still, it can be upgraded to a 12.3-inch screen, and there's standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a Qi wireless charging pad, plus five USB-A and USB-C ports. Optional features include the Wi-Fi Connect trial/subscription for 4G connectivity, Drive Connect with Intelligent Assistant, and over-the-air (OTA) updates. Of course, there are also HD Radio, USB data, and a SiriusXM Platinum Plan 3-month trial subscription, plus Integrated Streaming for Apple Music and Amazon Music subscriptions to take advantage of the nine-speaker JBL Premium Audio system upgrade.

Building upon greatness, the Toyota Camry enters its ninth generation with a fresh new look, enhanced performance and a Hybrid powertrain that's made to move. Designed and assembled in North America, the new Camry masterfully amplifies everything drivers love about the current best-selling mid-size sedan in Canada, with more power, striking good looks, feature packed convenience, and capable handling. And now, as a part of Toyota's effort to provide electrification for all, the 2025 Toyota Camry will be an exclusively Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV), offering a combination of power and fuel efficiency that is ready to take on the daily drive.

"Toyota has led the industry in providing drivers with vehicles that reduce emissions and boost fuel efficiency. We have sold more than 20 million electrified vehicles worldwide since 1997 and today we offer Canadians a broad range of models to ensure there's an electrified vehicle for every lifestyle," said Cyril Dimitris, Vice President, Toyota Canada Inc. "This includes a growing number of models that are exclusively hybrid-electric such as the Prius, Crown, Venza, Sienna, and Sequoia - and we're excited to add another core model, the Toyota Camry, to that list."

Powering Camry is Toyota's first-ever sedan pairing of its 2.5-litre, 4-cylinder engine and the fifth-generation Toyota Hybrid System (THS 5). Combining the engine's power with two electric motors, this dynamic new HEV has a standard 225 net combined horsepower on Front Wheel Drive (FWD) models and 232 hp on Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive (AWD) equipped models. Toyota engineers have also tuned the new HEV system at lower speeds to reduce engine RPMs and increase power from the traction battery to provide satisfying acceleration and torque feel. The Toyota Camry will also adopt the "Beyond Zero" badge to signal Toyota's strong commitment to reducing carbon emissions and its vision for a carbon-neutral future.

For the first time ever on a Camry Hybrid, Toyota's Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system will be available on all grades. For added peace of mind, the AWD system provides additional traction when needed, like during inclement weather or while cornering. The AWD system's capability comes from a dedicated rear electric drive motor generator that automatically supplies power to the rear wheels when needed.

Sleek New Generation

The ninth generation Camry, designed by CALTY's Newport Beach, California and Ann Arbor, Michigan studios, delivers a sleeker, athletic look to the popular sedan's design. The distinctive hammerhead front fascia adds a fresh clean look that is sure to turn heads. All grades will feature slim LED headlights, daytime running lights and taillights.

The SE and XSE grades have sporty exterior styling with a sleek roofline and a chiseled body. The sport grades feature racing-inspired functional aerodynamic air ducts, front-side canards and a rear diffuser. The rear also has an exposed dual-tip exhaust as well as a rear lip spoiler. The XSE will further the sporty style with a unique color matched front grille and black trunk garnish. With available 18-inch multi-spoke black-finished alloy wheels on SE grades and standard 19-inch multi-spoke black and smoke gray-finished alloy wheels on the XSE, these models will be a sure stand-out amongst its peers.

Exterior colour options include newly available Ocean Gem and Heavy Metal that will join Camry favorites like White, Wind Chill Pearl, Celestial Silver Metallic, Underground, Midnight Black Metallic, Supersonic Red, and Reservoir Blue. The XSE grades add an available two-tone look with Ocean Gem, Wind Chill Pearl, Heavy Metal and Supersonic Red paired with a Midnight Black Metallic roof.

Open-Style Cockpit

Merging with the impeccable craftsmanship of Camry, the modern open-concept and refined materials offer a unique experience to the interior design of each grade.

Beginning with the sport grades, the SE comes standard with Black SofTex®-trimmed seats featuring sporty bold white accents while the XSE adds a standard leather-trimmed interior with artistic "shooting blade" patterned perforations found on both the side door trim and seating surfaces. The XSE interior is available in two colours Black with blue lined perforations or the fan-favorite Cockpit Red. Both the SE and XSE grades come equipped with standard aluminum sport pedals and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters. In Canada, every Camry comes with standard heated front seats and heated steering wheel.

The XLE grade also showcases its own interior personality and style. It is the first Camry to feature leather and Dinamica® microfiber-trimmed seats offered in Light Gray or Black. A quilted pattern in this material can also be found on the front door panels and dashboard.

Camry will also have enhanced seat comfortability. Toyota engineers achieved this by changing the shape and density of the seat cushion and by increasing the cushion length. The headrest was also softened and moved rearward to enhance seat and ride comfort. That comfort can be extended on the XLE and XSE grades with standard front heated and ventilated seats that can be adjusted to three levels. These higher-end grades will also have a quieter cabin thanks to the standard front-side acoustic laminated glass to help reduce wind noise and harshness.

Toyota Camry also sets the standard for convenience. The next generation model comes with a standard push-to-start button, and a dual-zone automatic climate control system with rear air vents. For those who may have multiple drivers in the household, the XLE grade offers an available driver's memory seat and memory side view mirrors. For added convenience, the XLE has standard automatic rain-sensing windshield wipers. And for the first time on a Camry hybrid, the XLE and XSE grades will have standard power tilt and slide panoramic roof with a power-retractable sunshade.

More than Meets the Eye

Under the hood, Camry comes standard with the fifth-generation Toyota Hybrid System (THS 5) which offers a more controllable and engaging driving experience. The system uses lighter and more compact electric motors to produce more power and enhanced performance than the previous hybrid system. When paired together, THS 5 and Toyota's Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system results in 232 net combined horsepower - 30 more horsepower than the current gas model with a mechanical All-Wheel Drive system.

The electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive (AWD) has been adapted to work seamlessly with the hybrid system. The electronically controlled AWD features precise on-demand front-rear torque distribution in accordance with driving conditions to support start-off acceleration, handling, fuel efficiency and stability when driving on slippery road surfaces such as snow.

Camry also has a retuned suspension for enhanced responsiveness and agile handling which adds a sense of thrill when taking on those twisting and turning roads. The sport grades have a specific sport-tuned suspension with increased comfort, while still providing even greater stability, handling, and confidence behind the wheel.

Enhanced Tech

For the 2025 model, a 7-inch digital gauge cluster comes standard on SE models, while a standard 12.3-inch fully digital gauge cluster is found in the XLE and XSE grades. The XLE and XSE grades also come with a standard 10-inch Head Up Display to allow drivers to check their speed, see warning indicators, and turn-by-turn navigation.

The Toyota Multimedia System includes a standard 8-inch touchscreen display or an available 12.3-inch screen. The system includes standard wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility, and pairs with the standard Qi wireless charging pad. Camry also offers a standard combination of USB-A and USB-C ports, with three in the front and two in the rear across all grades.

Access to a wide range of enhanced connectivity features is also available. Toyota Multimedia allows simultaneous dual Bluetooth® phone connectivity.

With an active available Drive Connect trial or subscription, Camry drivers can also interact with the system through touch and voice activation. With Intelligent Assistant available through Drive Connect, simple phrases like "Hey Toyota" awakens the system for voice-activated commands to search for directions, find Points of Interest (POI), adjust audio controls, change the cabin temperatures and more. Over-the-Air (OTA) updates will also be available.

Adding to the already robust offering of audio playback ability with HD Radio, USB data and a SiriusXM® Platinum Plan 3-month trial subscription, Camry offers a nine speaker JBL® Premium Audio system upgrade on XLE and XSE grades.

Additional connected services are available on Camry as well. The up to 10-year Safety Connect trial includes an Emergency Assistance Button (SOS), 24/7 Enhanced Roadside Assistance, Automatic Collision Notification and Stolen Vehicle Locator. The up to 10-year Service Connect trial provides drivers the capability of receiving Vehicle Health Reports, Maintenance Alerts and reminders.

The 1-year trial Remote Connect subscription allows drivers to remotely interact with their vehicle through the Toyota app via their smartwatch. Depending on grade, it allows to lock/unlock doors, start and stop the vehicle, locate the last parked location, check vehicle status and monitor guest drivers.

A Digital Key is available on XLE and XSE grades. With an active Remote Connect trial or subscription, drivers can use the Digital Key via the Toyota app and allow passive entry unlock on front doors and trunk or push start in-cabin using your smartphone as the key.

Driver Assistance and Safety Features

The Toyota Camry comes standard with Blind Spot Monitor, which is designed to help detect and warn you of vehicles approaching or positioned in the adjacent lanes, with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert for added peace of mind by helping to detect vehicles approaching from either side while backing out and alerting you with a visual and audible warning.

For those looking for additional Driver Assistance features, the XLE and XSE grades come standard with additional features such as:
  • Traffic Jam Assist
  • Front-Cross Traffic Alert
  • Lane Change Assist
  • Panoramic View Monitor
  • Front and Rear Parking Assist with Automatic Braking
The Toyota Camry comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 (TSS 3.0). The safety suite includes:
  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection: Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD) is designed to help detect a vehicle, pedestrian, bicyclist or motorcyclist and provide an audio/visual forward collision warning under certain circumstances. If you don't react, the system is designed to provide automatic emergency braking.
  • Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control: Intended for highway use, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) is an adaptive cruise control system that is designed to be set at speeds above 30 km/h and uses vehicle-to-vehicle distance control to help maintain a preset distance from the vehicle ahead of you.

Looks like they've given up on the Camry and the sedan segment by the amount of effort they put into this. It's essentially just a light refresh. Makes me sad and wonder how much longer we will have midsize sedan options like the Camry and Accord.

The new 2025 Toyota Camry is soon arriving in dealers, and pricing is out now. For the entry-level LE, base price is $29,495 including a $1,095 destination charge. That's a little under $2,000 more than the old base Camry, but now, a hybrid powertrain is standard. In fact, the new Camry LE is $5 cheaper than the old entry Camry Hybrid model.

Here's a complete breakdown by trim, all including the $1,095 destination. All-wheel drive, new for hybrid Camrys, is a $1,525 option on all models.

Model Price
LE $29,495
SE $32,220
XLE $34,495
XSE $35,695

Price rises all the way to $42,220 for a fully loaded model, an XSE AWD with the Premium Plus Package and two tone paint. A 2024 Honda Accord has a lower base price of $28,990, but stepping up to an Accord Hybrid costs $33,990. The base 2024 Hyundai Sonata costs $28,650, but again, it costs more to go hybrid, $31,950. So the Camry seems very competitive.
Camry is more expensive overall, the fact that it costs about the same as its hybrid predecessor while offering similar fuel economy and more power makes it feel like a fair trade-off. It uses the latest generation of Toyota's famous hybrid system, like the new Prius, but with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder instead of a 2.0-liter. The new Camry also gets much-improved styling and all of Toyota's latest driver-assist tech, too.

It’s been common for multiple Camry generations to share a platform, so it shouldn’t be surprising or disappointing that the 2025 Toyota Camry shares the same TNGA set of platform components as its predecessor. It definitely shouldn’t be surprising considering how similar they look, apart from its attractive new face that boasts a sleek LED headlight arrangement and a grille area below filled with a selection of different mesh patterns depending on trim level. There are other, more subtle design updates throughout (the rear quarter area actually has been changed), but you have to compare them side-by-side to see the differences.

Despite this, substantial improvements have been made under the skin. First, every 2025 Camry is a hybrid. Not only that, but it features the next, fifth-generation hybrid system Toyota debuted in the new Prius – albeit with a bigger 2.5-liter inline-four. While the 2025 Camry system produces more power at 225 horsepower with front-wheel drive and 232 hp with all-wheel drive (more on that soon), the big gain is that the system is smoother, quieter and just makes for better driving. Engineers increased the amount of energy provided by the lighter and more compact motor-generator to delay engine engagement while accelerating, make that engagement smoother when it does happen, and then lessen engine load.
The upgraded hybrid powertrain is a lot quieter, too, and the noises it does make are far more pleasant. The electronically controlled continuously variable transmission no longer yo-yos revs up and down so severely when you momentarily lift off the throttle – it does an even better job of keeping engine revs where they should be in Sport mode – with the added benefit of an engine note that sounds less like a droning leaf blower. There’s actually quite a nice four-cylinder thrum now indicative of a car. I had an opportunity to drive a Toyota with the previous-generation hybrid system the day after my time with the Camry, and the improvement really is significant.

Fuel economy is an eye-popping 51 miles per gallon combined for the base LE and its balloony high-profile tires. The other trim levels get 47 mpg combined, while all-wheel drive drops each trim’s estimate by 1 mpg combined. OK, so the XSE drops to 44 mpg combined, but that’s still crazy good.

As mentioned, there will once again be an all-wheel-drive Camry available. The previous one was a mechanical system exclusively paired to the base, non-hybrid 2.5-liter. The new system is the same concept as other all-wheel-drive Toyota hybrids, including the new Prius: An extra motor added to the rear axle is engaged when the car deems the road slippery or detects front wheel slippage. There’s no proactive engagement to improve performance and handling.
On the subject of handling, though, the Camry once again offers two distinctive dynamic flavors: the cushy LE and sporty SE, with those with an X at the beginning signifying more equipment and fancier finishings. Although the LE became far less of a marshmallow last generation, it sure seems like Toyota widened the ride/handling gap between the LE and SE this time around when it re-tuned the chassis. The SE and XSE’s sport-tuned suspension got new shock absorbers at all corners plus a larger-diameter front stabilizer bar, which definitely has something to do with how much flatter and controlled the SE stayed around long, high-speed sweepers than the LE, which heave-ho’d and bounded about. Grip was also reduced, but the LE has balloony tires wrapping 16-inch wheels rather than the tidy 18-inchers on the SE and XLE. The XSE gets 19s.

Steering differences are also quite obvious between LE and SE. Sport mode is especially well done in the SE, dialing in a small but just-right amount of effort, especially when turning in, to increase engagement that should please anyone who counts “good steering” as a priority. I was also fine with Normal in more mundane driving scenarios. After switching to the LE, though, oh boy do things change. The difference between drive modes is negligible, as Sport just adds some elastic mush to a numb turn-in and a nebulous on-center feel. It drives exactly how most people think a Camry drives; the SE feels more like … um, this seems wrong to say, but a sport sedan. A well-damped one, it should be said, because the ride remains comfortable.

Toyota also upgraded the braking system with an electronically controlled one, and it’s noticeable. Never mind improvement, these noticeably feel like great brakes. And I usually don’t notice brakes. The pedal is firm and progressive, and there’s actual feel to them. “It feels natural,” says my notebook, which is particularly impressive considering this is a hybrid that needs to blend regenerative and mechanical braking.
The interior design gets an overhaul even if dimensions are largely cut-and-paste. The dash was redesigned for the 8- or 12.3-inch touchscreen to fit more seamlessly atop it, but Toyota thankfully wasn’t baited by the cost-cutting allure of doing away with buttons and knobs for climate and other key controls. One quirk of the design, though: From the driver’s perspective, the screens seem to be pointing at the passenger seat. They aren’t; it’s just a weird optical illusion.

The user interface is new to the Camry but commonplace elsewhere in the Toyota lineup. It will also feature the update that allows for an easier escape from Apple CarPlay. The fix, keeping the bank of docked menu icons on screen while using CarPlay, will not be duplicated for Android Auto, though. Both Apple and Android connectivity are wireless, and the Camry is the rare car in its price range that comes standard with a wireless charging pad. There are also five USB ports spread throughout the cabin, while a new, long bin next to the wireless pad is perfectly shaped to hold both a big phone and its cord. The result is that your passenger’s phone won’t be filling a cupholder with a wire snaking all over the console.

Aesthetically, the 2025 Camry benefits from interesting fabric combinations in each trim level, which not only makes the seats look snazzy, but serve as dash adornment. So, instead of some plastic that looks like wood, metal or something supposedly fancy-ish, you get black or bright red SofTex pleather in an XSE, a plush quilted microfiber in the XLE, a textured pinstriped fabric in the SE and a lovely gray cloth in the LE. They all look great, and kudos for not excluding the lower trim levels from interesting design (though it’s probably fair to be concerned about stains long-term with the lighter-colored dash fabrics).

Toyota apparently lengthened and reshaped the front seat cushions, while also changing the foam density. I can’t say I noticed without a previous generation on hand, but those sound like updates that would make seats more comfortable. The back seat is just as spacious as it was before, but it still has fixed headrest bumps, which aren’t ideal for certain child seat rear anchor straps. Further to the idea that the body structure didn’t change, the trunk has the exact same cargo space volume as the previous-generation: 15.1 cubic feet. If it performs differently than the last one did in my luggage test, I’d be stunned.

You probably won’t be stunned to hear that pricing has gone up for 2025, but it’s more complicated than that. Starting at $29,495, including the $1,095 destination charge, that is an increase over the $27,515 the 2024 Camry LE went for. But! Remember that every Camry is now a hybrid, which maybe you didn’t ask for, but the 2025 Camry LE is in fact $455 cheaper than the old Camry Hybrid LE. Prices are similarly lower when comparing 2025 trim levels to 2024 hybrid ones. Score!

All-wheel drive is effectively a $1,525 option on all trim levels. It was $975 before, but that was also considerably cheaper than the typical AWD option price. Finally, a totally loaded Camry XSE AWD with the $4,075 Premium Plus package (extra ADAS equipment, a JBL sound system, a head-up display, ventilated front seats and a panoramic sunroof) goes for more than $42,000. Grumble, grumble, inflation, grumble.

The good news is that the new Camry really is an improvement, even if it’s not that new. The previous generation was holding up well, but the sharp-looking new front-end design, higher-quality cabin, big-time tech updates, well-executed hybrid powertrain and surprisingly engaging SE and XSE trim levels result in a much better car. And here’s the kicker: Last year’s new Accord was hardly that new, either. We should all just be happy we still have family sedans at all.
