yeah, pretty sure the Subaru is AWD only, while the Toyota one is RWD. but the concept is kinda a fusion of both, right?

forget that I said anything

I probably won't even consider the CR-Z, unless they come out with a gas only version...

CL is gonna be 8 years old in Oct '10, so these car companies better make something I can't resist, or I'll be driving the CL forever

2800lbs, ~200hp, rwd 2+2 coupe would do it for me...

You cannot be serious. I can't believe for a second that you'd like something made by Hyundai.

Yeah, yeah, we know. This is a complete copy of the Hyundai GC, and if this had a Hyundai badge instead of a Toyota badge we'd all be talking about how ugly it is and how nobody likes it and how Hyundai copied Toyota. We get it....

To heavy.... but at 3294lbs, the GC is not as bad as some others... it's 150lbs less than my CL.

One of these car companies (other than lotus) has got to be able to make a decent car that's under 3000lbs

The concept is pure Toyota in terms of design. I would have guessed instantly that it was a Toyota without badges. Wonder what the sube will look like?

Thumbs up Toyota FT-86 confirmed for North American market !

Posted @ FT86club

The Toyota Motor Sales USA President & COO stated in this interview that the North American market would be getting the Toyota FT-86 when it gets made. He was asked when the Supra or another sports car was coming to North America to which he answered that no Supra would be coming but that the FT-86 would be.

I have a question and observation

Q: Who will tune this, TRD or STI?

O: Currently, a lotus is powered by toyota motor, this is a toyota powered by a subie motor.

Wouldn't life be more fun if the lotus was powered by a subie motor, and toyota would just keep their whorish ways to themselves...

just my 2 cents, but with that said i'll be inline for the awd version.

awesome car, but i am not looking forward to seeing the drivers on the road...or at least having to deal with their driving style. teenagers are going to be zipping around in these things thinking they are the ____. it happened when they released the last gen celica and the WRX. it will happen again.

Lightbulb 2013

If a report from Japan's Best Car is to be believed, Toyota will delay the release of the FT-86 from 2011 to 2013.

The reasons behind the delay are varied, and include a different design direction, the economic slowdown and possibly a revised powertrain strategy that could include some kind of hybrid motivation.

As reported previously, the original FT-86 concept was just that – a design study – and Toyota is apparently second-guessing the styling of the coupe before it reaches production. Additionally, ToMoCo is reportedly gauging the success of the Honda CR-Z, which could influence the final drivetrain specs of the FT-86. If that means a hybrid powerplant is in the cards, we're not totally heartbroken, but if Toyota decides to remake the coupe as a front-driver, consider our dreams officially dashed. Regardless, the next iteration of the FT-86 is slated to debut at the Tokyo Motor Show at the end of 2011.

I wonder if the reason they delayed it is to help the car look more 3D for it's inclusion in GT5?

Not surprised that its getting delayed. Seems like Toyota and Honda are both scared of the sports car market.

Post Toyota FR-S: Official Name for the FT-86 Concept?

From here: http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2...6-concept.html

The biggest question surrounding Toyota’s awesome FT-86 concept isn’t if the car will make it to production, but what it will be called. That mystery may have just been solved, with word that Toyota Motor Corporation has just filed a trademark for the “FR-S” name in both the U.S. and Canada.

The name certainly makes a lot of sense, with “FR” standing for front-engine, rear-wheel drive, while the “S” presumably being used to indicate that this is in fact a sports car. Like the FT-86 Concept’s name, it’s also a throwback to the Corolla AE-86 that inspired it.

hmm, idk. looks like cheap gimmicky garbage if you ask me. esp. the interior. lots of plastic. nothing about it says: solid manufacturing.

the dash setup looks like a cutaway arcade game.
