First shots of Subaru RWD lightweight coupe
#42
That guy looks like he's asleep! Hope that's not indicative of how the car is...
Looks great though.... it looks kinda like it would be a LGT coupe. Final product will probably bill different, but still, I'd love a RWD LGT coupe!

Split from Impreza thread and merged here...

Someday, an RS6 Avant+
The funny thing is Subaru already puts a 2L turbo motor in the Legacy line (260 - 280 ps). They could use that in this thing and leave it alone. The aftermarket would take it to 300 plus.
Now, if they could just get away from those fake Pontiac ribs on the sides........

Rendered Speculation: Toyota/Subaru FR Sports car
From WCF...
Cost-cutting and consolidation in the motor industry is forcing players like Toyota and Subaru, alliance partners, into sharing parts not necessarily best suited for their intended purposes. In spite of this, development of Toyota’s Subaru-based sports car, the FR, is gaining much-desired momentum. Word is, bosses at Japan’s numero uno have decided on the final shape of the car and we are lucky enough to have Best Car magazine lead the way, so to speak, in offering renderings of this front-engined rear-wheel-driven sports coupe. Toyota owns a minor stake in Subaru’s parent company Fuji Heavy Industries.
FR is described as possessing a “wonderful style” as far as looks are concerned. It’s a car based on a shortened Subaru Legacy platform whose suspension system has been identified by Toyota engineers as being “weak and terrible”, again, meaning good for a family car but not entirely suitable for a 200m sprinter. Nevertheless these die-hards have vowed to work on it until it handles like a real sports car. Not the best solution but when budgets are tight you have to make do with what you have.
Solid and proven, the 2.0-litre four-pot boxer with power of 190 PS (187hp), aimed for a 200 PS (197hp) production stage, is to be fitted. Accompanied at the hip by a 6-speed gearbox, it should carry itself well enough in the 1200kg (2645 lbs) body. Fuel consumption is always a concern and Toyota hopes not to have to reduce power by too much for the sake of frugality, but that possibility is fast turning into a probability even at current oil prices.

I like the blue one.... the grey one not so much. Both might be better off styling-wise without that inner pair of head lights.
and wtf @ decreasing the power. It needs more! Offer the turbocharged STi powerplant

The blue one looks good, the gray one, not so much. And I don't get those oddly placed lights on the bumper on either one...fog lights, maybe? In the end, it's yet another underpowered car.

I don't like the inner headlights, but it's probably a design que that they borrowed from the old lexus sc300's... I've always hated those inner "headlights"...

Right you are... 200hp in a 2600lb car is just about perfect... and since this will be rwd, it'll be a ton of fun regardless of the hp in it...
I've never heard anyone call a Integra Type R underpowered and that had about the same power to weight ratio... (195 hp, 2639lbs)

What's to explain, I dont care for the genesis for various reasons, which would best be put in a thread about that car. On topic, I've heard the genesis doesnt have the greatest acceleration, I'd bet the subuyota would come close to or beat the genesis. That not the only reason I dont like them.but then who cares, you made a comment and I made a comment in rebuttal.

The sizzle in the Steak
Not Toyota....but a new Scion Tc
The rumor mill has been spitting out bits and pieces about the upcoming sports coupe currently being co-developed between Toyota and Subaru, but details about the car’s U.S. availability have been relatively scattered. Early reports suggested both cars would be available for U.S. consumption, while others speculated that only the Subaru version would be available in the States. But according to a new report, both guesses are wrong.
While the Subaru version of the coupe is still likely on for the U.S., Toyota will also be marketing the car here in the United States. However, the new model won’t be wearing a Toyota badge but will rather be given to the automaker’s Scion youth division, according to Carscoop.
For those of you thinking the new model will eat into Scion tC sales, you’re onto something. Instead of offering two models that are relatively the same – save for which wheels provide the motivation – Scion will badge the new model as the next-generation tC.
The next tC should hit the market in late 2010 or early 2011 and will be Scion’s first rear-wheel drive model. Subaru’s version of the sport coupe will offer an optional all-wheel drive system and a turbocharged engine good for about 300 horsepower, but look for the tC to do with just the base car’s 2.0L Boxer-four – producing about 200 horsepower – in order to keep in line with Scion’s value pricing.

Time to merge yet another thread.

I'm not a badge whore either, but pardon me for wishing it was just plain old called a Toyota Celica. And as for the turbocharged 4-cyl model (AWD optional) they could have just called it a GT-Four.
I guess I'm just old school.

the Scion does nothing for me. The only Scion that remotely gets my blood going is the old Tc. and it was okay it was nothing to write home about.
Just if they wanna call it a "Sports car" #1. i don't think of Scion as a tear up the streets brand #2. put more than a 2 liter motor in it #3. if you're gonna only put a v-6 or i-6 in it atleast supercharge or turbo it. but a 4 popper in a front wheel drive=yawn. probably only make 200 hp. i don't catagorize it as a sports car unless it has 250-300 hp. that's about a Mustang GT. even the S2K on the low side i believe for power to be a sports car.
