Yup, I think you are the only one. I love the sound of Subaru's especially ones that upgrade their exhausts and have that throaty rumbling sound.

I don't mind that its branded as a Scion. I mind that they put such a horrible, tiny wheel/tire package on this car. The Greddy car proves that all this thing needs is some 20" wheels to look amazing. Stock, it looks like a cheap econobox....

Question, why is it that the wrx sounds the way it does? But a Porsche doesn't? Is it really just the 6cylinders vs 4?

Every engine and every exhaust put out different sound. F/I vs N/A sounds totally different too.

And I think Porsche Turbo has that freaking deep growl exhaust note too.

The porsche makes that sound?

just that a wrx/STi has that distinct sound that tells you "ohh I'm a wrx"

Yes.. all cars have different engine/exhaust sound. It all depends on the design of the parts.

A lot of cars have their "signature" exhaust sound..

Well I know that, I'm just wondering what aftually makes that rumble and would the BRZ have it?

If BRZ and FR-S have different exhaust, maybe? It's more likely the exhaust designs that changes the tone of that note.

I know all WRX/STi/Evo/MS3 have that deep growl with the stock exhaust. And once we change out the Cat Back Exhaust, that deep growl sound gets intensified. And once we swap out the downpipe, the sound gets even more intensified. So from this, I can say it is most likely associated with the exhaust design.

0:52 s makes me wonder why do they use masking to hide something ? maybe the supercharged TRD edition ?

the car didnt sound to bad when he revved it in that video ^

And good point streek ka, but I think that might have been an earlier version. If you read the reviews of the FRS on autoblog, in their pics you'll see that car also. I believe they said it was the GT-86, but there wasn't any mention of a turbo/supercharged car there.

For subaru boxer 4s, it's the headers that make all the difference. Equal length vs unequal length.

Here is a video my friend made of his Legacy GT.

He also added another resonator since the video was shot because the Greddy exhaust was too raspy.

You can look up videos of people who put unequal length headers on their NA boxer 4s and see the same results. In this case the turbo only makes a slight difference.

Forgot to mention the headers.. For MS3, people call it an aftermarket "exhaust manifold", which is pretty much the same thing. It intensifies the exhaust note by far.

Is the headers considered as an exhaust part or engine part? Or is it categorized as something else since it's the part that basically connects the engine and the exhaust?

I would categorize it as an exhaust part since it's technically called an exhaust manifold. But the naming does get kind of confusing when some cars, like the 3G TL, have the headers cast on to the engine block.

I agree with all you said above but You are missing something buddy. A TURBO on the FRS

For those who say it sounds like Porsche - it doesn't. Subaru's N/A H6 with an exhaust may sound similar to the Porsche but thats it.

There's no plan for a turbo on the FR-S. They said there's not even room for one with the way they placed the engine as low and far back as possible

Did toyota actually say that??

I know subaru did, but IIRC toyota let those questions hang... I'm not sure though. I get the articles mixed up as I'm reading for basically the same car.
