Last I heard was NA boxer 2.0L @ about 200hp...we will know soon enough though.
Because I know they are sharing a engine with subaru. And subaru's 2.0L flat 4 in the impreza makes rougly 150hp. The new engine is suppose to be a direct injection so thats what 15-20hpish increase?? If its making around 165ish hp, and its base is around 20k. Thats not a great sign, no? Not when most of its competitors are making way north of that. |

will that be the infamous 2.0L WRC engine? :wish:
regardless of power, this thing is sick. exactly what people my age want. im SO happy i sold my TL and went with my civic, i can only dream about a nice RWD coupe right now...and i dream every day. 200hp should be more than enough if they keep this thing under 2500 lbs |

Only thing is I can't see myself driving american muscle and as much as I want RWD, I'd take a GTI over the Genesis. I've wanted the GTI ever since I was 16, no car yet has pushed it off the top of my list for my first car to purchase. This car has the potential to do just that! |
Latest pics of Scion/Toyota FR-S getting ready to hit the Nürburgring. Looks good, IMO.... minus the huge ass spoiler.

Not bad. The wing has to go, though. A LOT of front overhang, too. I really like the wheels/brakes...great look.
|
But the wing adds 5-10hp
|
i like it
|
I can't even explain how fast that wing would come off if I were to buy one. I think I might even bring the tools to do it in the parking lot of the dealership...
|
That wing is too small.
|
brembo's on the front?
|
Brembos as an option maybe. I can foresee this thing shooting past $25k when it's loaded up.
Still a great value as long as at $20k they don't make it drive like a typical Scion. No offense to any other Scion owners but having driven a tC and an xB before and they were very average. They're like Toyotas for cool kids. |
brakes that fill the wheels for the most part. I like!
Wing is a no no though. |

Have they mentioned how the Subaru version will attract buyers? As far as I can tell they're pretty much the exact same car, although the Subie will come with more goodies and probably a better interior. |
This car is going to be very interesting. So far it is looking fantastic. When looking at other coupes like the MusTANK, Camaro...They are HUGE.
Hopefully this will mimic the Mazda MX-5 and focus on light weight, great handling, and affordable. My MX-5 was the most fun car I've ever had. Yes, low on power, but a dream to drive. I'll be giving the Subaru version a good long look. |
Not sure if these links have been posted so use sparingly, if they are old then don't click on them. They are all dealing with the Subaru BRZ:

This thing was actually race prepped. Which may explain the wing.
Here are the latest shots of the Toyota FT-86 (coming to the U.S. as the Scion FR-S), which is sporting some racing gear and less camouflage. According to our spy photographer, the FT-86 you see here is participating in the German VLN (Veranstaltergemeinschaft Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nurburgring) racing series. With a little bit of digging, we found the FT-86 on the entry list for this weekend’s race. Toyota also raced a prototype LFA in the series a few years ago. Compared with past photos, the tester appears to be sporting racing rubbers, lightweight rims, bigger brakes, and, of course, stickers. Toyota also has shed a bit of camo, especially around the headlights, taillights, and rear hatch where the shape of the Toyota emblem is clearly visible. Additionally, this tester is sporting a mean-looking rear diffuser and thin side view mirrors, both of which probably won’t see production. Subaru has also been testing its version of the FT-86 — the BRZ — which we caught on the ‘Ring a few days ago. Read more: http://wot.motortrend.com/toyota-ft-...#ixzz1alqVDVwy |
Needs more wing!!! :tomato:
|
that's a pretty ugly looking wing
|
If its cheap I'll buy one and just mod the crap of it.
|
Reminds me of a Celica. I suppose they are going after a similar market.
|
at least the wing is actually serving a purpose. Unlike the majority of wings you see.
function>form |
the majority of wings that we see on a lot of stock cars actually are functional. it's just that you have to go really fast to really make a use of it, but nobody really goes that fast on local roads... so it's pretty much useless...

Good point though, about it being useless on public streets. Imagine our road cars like F1 cars where there's so much downforce you need to go faster to take a turn and not lose control :D What a great world it would be :D |
I was talking about the cars with fairly oversized wings. The typical family sedans usually have those small decklid type of wings, and I don't care about them anyway. lol
And I don't think I'll ever make a use of my hatch wing on the back, Mazda does have a demonstration video of it, but again you have go really fast to feel the difference. :D |
i like the wing. i also like the toyota badge...

Giant wing look ricer. Functional or not.
|
Supposedly what the FT-86/FR-S will look like. It's from the catalog of Toyota's Modellista parts division.
Not bad. Looks better without the spoiler. http://o.aolcdn.com/dims-global/dims...1/10/ft86a.jpg http://o.aolcdn.com/dims-global/dims...1/10/ft86b.jpg |
According to autoblog, the FRS was suppose to look different from the concept so they're not sure if this is legit. We should know soon?
Anyway the exterior is nice, but I dont like that interior at all. Really the only complement I see is that the tachometer is in the center and the speedometer is on the side. Kinda like that. |

interior looks like one of those scion car interiors.. which i hate it
|
Interior looks super cheap :ugh:
|
I thought the Toyota was going to be a car in the low $20Ks ... Which is right in line with what we're seeing here.
|
I love the interior. It is very snug, which I like in a sports coupe.
I think it would look great in black with some red overlays on the taillights. The Subaru version may be my next car. |

Aside from the chrome strip on the side and the Altezza lights, the exterior looks good...the interior, well, I'll need to see in person, but it doesn't hold much hope. BUT for $20k, I could live with it. Something to cover the cup holders is a must, though...I didn't realize they still leave those exposed (guess I'm spoiled :dunno: ). And is there really no arm rest? This is 2011 people...arm rests and hidden cup holders should be standard.
