No, I wasn't saying it was tacky because it's a Scion. I'm saying I don't like those giant, lit-up letters.

Hey buddy, back off. That could be any brand, its the design itself thats tacky. It could say Ferrari in glowing red, and I would still think its tacky. What do you know about my mentality anyway?

if Subie comes out with a turbo version that rwd or awd with 300+HP they will have a winner for sure. i would be interested in it......

a quick tune and down pipe, that thing would go....

however i can not see only the subie having the turbo option where the scion does not.....it will take away sales from scion.

Its no surprise, The car looks great. The question is who's going to buy it. And I don't mean because its a Scion. Is there a market for cars like this? For the sake of RWD sports car enthusiasts everywhere lets hope it sells like hotcakes so others follow suit and GM can finally replace his CL.

I wonder what type of engine the 2.0L will be and how much HP/TQ it will make. Honda just dumped the K20 and its 8K redline. Will Toyota pick up where they left off and offer a 2L with 200HP and a 8K redline?

No, because the drivetrain has to be a parts bin affair - the derivative of some existing unit. Impreza WRX drivetrain?

Probably, but rumors suggest 200 HP from a NA 2 liter. Have to get that 200 from somewhere. Help from Yamaha?

Leave it to Toyota to make that a TRD upgrade.

It's going to be a boxer-4 with Toyota's D4-S direct fuel injection. I don't 200 hp is going to be too much of an engineering feat. 250 would be...

So, the WRX engine without the turbo but with Toyota plumbing?

It's basically an updated Subaru engine without the turbo. A future Subaru branded version may have the turbo, may or may not be RWD, and may or may not even be sold in the US.

I don't think Subaru would deviate from their AWD for everything mantra in the USA. My guess is this is going to be like the old WRX that was not available in the US (before they brought us the neutered version and then upped the ante with the STi but did so by ditching the WRC approved 2 liter for a 2.5). There will be a Subaru version of the car, it will totally kick ass, a lot more ass than the Scion version, and residents of the US will only get to drive it on Gran Turismo 6 or 7.

I would be a little shocked (but totally impressed) if Subaru had the balls to sell a turbocharged RWD GT car to American audiences, but then again, Bimmer ///M cars come with turbos now, so strange things do occasionally happen in the car world.

An AWD drive version of this car doesn't offer much of a marketing angle beyond what a WRX already does, except two less doors and less practicality, which is never a good selling point when you're attempting to sell cars to Americans. This is where I would have to agree in wondering if Subaru would even bother offering their version of the car here if they insisted on it being AWD.

There were some spy pics from the Ring' that came out awhile back that made it look very tame in comparison to this concept. Lets hope that isn't the case.

Much better than the over-stylized concept they showed at the last show. Still a bit much in a few spots, but looks good, overall...like the original sketches.

Not sure if this has been posted, but Im impressed with the size of the car. Its the only new car (thats justifiable) and interesting to me.

Hopefully the dimensions stay similar.

If your crying over the scion badge, pick up the subie version. You may have to wait if it doesn't release at the same time and some options may not be available, but atleast you won't have those scion badges.

***Alternatively, as long as the vehicle is the same (in terms of body panels and chasis) you can do a toyota --> subie conversion using the subie panels on the toyota. Not like we arent familiar with using other vehicles panels here in the Accord Euro R world.

i doubt toyota will fail to deliver. the LF-a is a big deal and they really shut a lot of critics up. They still have it in them, dont forget this is the same company that brought you the Mr-2, the supra TT, the AE86 and the early celica

my only concern is the engine, have we confirmed a toyota powerplant or will they both share a boxer? id prefer a toyota engine in there.

The hype is pretty damn big on these projects for both brands.

I'm sure they will do this right. Or I should say I'm hoping them to do this right.
