So I went in today for the first B9 Tribeca techanical trainning today. Overall the car is decent but I must say that the interior is much better build/quality/design compared to the other line ups. A couple "new to subie" modules have been added but nothing fancy or to "WOW" about. For us north of the border, we'll only get 2 models but both will be equipped with the same engine that's currently in the Legacy Outback, the 3.0 H6. But one bad point is again, there will be NO HIDs for both models. Actually, subie Canada is only putting HIDs on the 2006 Forrester XTs. Not even STis!!

It can be had for possibly invoice or a few dollars over invoice (05).
With $650 in an ECU reflash(ECUTEC) it can have the 330hp.
New Legacy,Forester can be made to have the same 300-330hp with less than $1500.

JDM STi heads flow better than USDM STi. Also JDM STi has a redline of 8k (US has 7k). Also JDM STi's sport a twin scroll VF36/VF37 and equal leangth headers. Also they only have one catalyst in the downpipe vs the US having two. There are many many subtle differences. There are also differences in suspension that make the car handle different. Example: in the US the comparo STi vs EVO the EVO always win. In Europe the STi spec C always beats the EVO. Want to go to the interior? The JDM STi has Recaro front seats standard. Not in the US. The WRX has 4 pot front brakes and two pot rear the US has two pot front 2 pot ear.

I can go on but no need to bore you guys to death.

Nick

Sounds like Subaru (and probably the case is the same with the Evo) introduces new tech in Japan and/or Europe to debug it there before adding it to the USA market cars. I am sure reliability is what's in mind at Mitsu/Subaru.

Subaru always has models that exist in Japan only.

Here's one that every one would love to have:

No 2.5 there.

Doesn't look too bad, wish they would have redone the rear of the sedan also.

I didn't think I would like it from the concept art, but I REALLY like it quite a bit. I didn't think they would be able to improve on the 04, but they have. I still will never forgive them for the bug eyes, however.

Overall this is a controversial change for the STi, seems many people are unhappy with the new look.......others think its fine.

Few seem to love it, from initial reactions.

Well, as an 04 STi owner yourself, what are your impressions? And yeah, I know you are going to be dumping it soon.

Actually it looks a lot better that I thought.

Man all these aerodynamic parts. On top, underneath.

Any idea on actual specs?

I am guessing the JDM specs have nothing to do with the USDM ones so we have to wait until they come out.

Cheers

I don't hate it (the taillights bother me the most), but don't love it either..........would most certainly go for the Evo 9 MR over it.

Love the changes they made to the 06 Evo.

Overall, I just don't know why Subaru bothered with the change. If anything, they should have just redesigned the car from the ground up, what is this...the 3rd major facelift?

There have been rumors that the look of the car will not be the only changes for 06...but these have been rumors for awhile now, so we shall see.

I'm interested hearing what the subie guys (my autoX team is all suby/STi) have to say about it.

I'm sure there will be other changes, but doubt anything earth shattering......another 20-30hp would be nice.

UGH!!! terrible new front end. I don't like it all. All it makes me say is UGH. The way the grille is shaped... the headlights... it looks like a Pontiac. Sunfire. or Grand Am. not good.

I don't mind the headlights and the new bumper but that grille and tail lights have to go. I was seriously considering an STi for my next car but there's no way I'd be caught driving that thing around.

I guess I'll just be keeping my TSX until the next STi redesign...

That's a given for a good acceleration time with AWD vehicles. It's also how well the AWD puts the power on the ground during the 0-30mph run.

Times of below 13.5 for the 1/4 are not abnormal for the STi.

Usually, in a 2-wheel drive car (front or rear), 100mph to 102 mph traps will result in 13.9 to 14.2 second 1/4 mile runs. The 0-60 will be around 5.4 seconds. But if the 0-60 improves to 4.7 like the average is for the STi or even the Evo (although the Evo MR has run 4.4s for the 60), right away you have more than half a second taken off of the 1/4 mile run with the same trap speed. There's your mid 13s or better 1/4 mile run. It's important to understand that the trap speed is almost unaffected by the bat-like hook in the first few dozen feet. Time is greatly affected though.

It's important to think of the 1/4 mile run at least in two parts:

50% of it is the first 60-90 feet
50% of it is after traction "issues" have been resolved (and that for street cars, usually happens after the speedometer reads 40-70mph)

my 60 ref was in the 60' yea trap speed is mad low though. What kinda 60' times is the STi pulling to net low 13 times and only trap 100mph. My point being, how can a(not stock) WRX pull 100+mph trap speed, have less power and less sophisticated power train? I would image the STi getting the power to the ground better. I've seen WRX pull >14.1 w/ 97-98mph trap speed which is a few mph less than what CLSs would run.
