Yeah, I love Mazda, but RX-8 is just horrible in every way except for the handling. I'd much, much rather own a BRZ over it.

Went to Subaru in Glendale today while wife was shopping at the Americana.

Like 9 salesmen were at the parking lot talking shit because nobody goes to Subaru. I walked up and asked if they have a BRZ. This youngest looking white guy comes up to me and says it's only for pre-order and I would have to pay $5,000 mark up price on top of the MSRP.

I'm like uhhh no I don't want to purchase the car yet obviously since I don't even know how it looks in person nor how it drives. And I told him no I will never pay this "mark up" price on a car. And I told him nobody's going to pay $5k mark up for a $26k Subaru car.

He's like yes they will, everyone will have to pay for it because if not, we won't sell it. And he tells me he knows every Subaru dealership is doing it in that way. I tell him that I went to another Subaru dealership in Costa Mesa couple weeks ago, and they aren't doing any of pre-order shit. He's like . are you sure dude??

While this is happening, all the other salesmen were still talking shit in the back.

I just laughed at the guy and left the dealership.

This type of dumb crap is the reason why Subaru is just Subaru in the States.

A lot of people on the forum are saying Subaru really dropped the ball on this one. Theyve already delivered cars to 3 customers IIRC, and they didnt make a big deal out of it. Most of the people with preorders can't even get a VIN out of Subaru.

At this point, if you really want a BRZ and you're not already on the list, you're not getting one until next year. A few people may get lucky and get one that someone else didnt get, but its rare.

I don't care how good the car drives. I would never buy a car with this type of gay stealership experience.

They are making it sound like they are selling some type of Louis Vuitton 911 Turbo or something. It was literally disgusting to talk to that salesmen. I know it's going to be a great car, but it's just a $26k Subaru coupe after all.

It's not like I want to get the car right away. Just wanted to check it out in person and maybe think about getting it after they get all the first to second model year problems sorted away. That's only IF I like the car.

I completely agree. The local Acura dealer, Crown Acura (I have no problem putting them on blast because they fucking suck), did a similar thing to me. I went in to look at a used '08 TL-S6, and they made it seem as though I couldn't afford the car. I told the salesman to go fuck himself and left.

For the next 8-12 months...he wasn't lying.

Very few Subie dealers are going to be good honest dealers.

Toyota was pretty smart when they entered into this agreement.

Sure the BRZ will sell...but a price locked car will do better out of the gate.

Yep.

I did contact couple Scion dealers and they were all pretty damn helpful about the whole thing. I'm going to check out FRS in person when it gets to the dealerships.

Really got turned off by the BS at Subaru today. I'll pass for sure.

Scions Pure Price thing sucks at times, but for a car like this, I love it. Just keep in mind there are Doc fees, and certain states cap them. VA is capped at $250, but Im trying to get my dealer to drop that since they want to use my car for marketing.

This is typical of any dealer or mfg. when they think they have a hot car that everyone wants. it's just a Subie thing.

^^ Very few car salesmen really know their product.

In the end it's all about sales and making coin.

...and to be honest they really don't need to know all that much, because the general car buying public is uninformed on a massive scale.

I like those tails. Quad exhaust is a bit much on a 200hp car though IMO.

Arrow Incentives

Scion's FR-S launch in May has forced Subaru dealers to trim, slightly, prices of their almost identical BRZ sports coupe that went on sale in April.

Even though there's now competition, Subie sellers are getting an average transaction price of $29,085 for BRZ, vs. Scion stores' average $25,653 for FR-S, according to data provided to Drive On by TrueCar.com, which has access to transaction information. TrueCar.com says there was a $400 incentive on BRZ in June, none on the FR-S.

The 2 small sports coupes are marketed differently in the U.S., explaining the big gap in transaction prices. That's true despite the fact the FR-S and BRZ were jointly developed by Toyota and Subaru, and are built using identical hardware at the same factory in Japan, operated by Fuji Heavy Industries, which is Subaru's parent company.

Scion offers a single model, with either manual transmission (sticker price $24,930) or automatic ($26,030). There are a few options, such as Sirius XM satellite radio service, exterior trim, wheel locks and so forth.

Subaru sells 2 versions of BRZ, the base, called Premium ($26,245 manual, $27,345 automatic), and the high-end, called Limited ($28,245 manual, $29,345 automatic). Limited gives you features not offered by the Scion, such as leather trim, automatic climate control, heated seats, proximity key.

To save you the arithmetic, the base BRZ is $1,315 more than the FR-S.

For the difference, the base BRZ gives you standard high-intensity discharge (HID) headlights and a standard navigation system. FR-S doesn't offer HID lights or navi, period.

Scion has about 1,000 dealers in the U.S. and they sold 2,684 FR-S models last month. Subaru has about 600 dealers, and they sold 818 BRZs, according to tallymaster Autodata. Subaru all along has planned to sell fewer than Scion, but that's a big difference.

The letter designations, FR-S and BRZ, stand for:

Front-engine, Rear-drive, Sport in the case of the FR-S, and Boxer engine, Rear drive, Zenith in the case of the BRZ.

Both cars use a new-design Subaru 2-liter, 200-horsepower 4-cylinder engine that, as are all other Subaru fours, is called a boxer because it lays flat and the 2 pistons on one side jab back and forth toward and away from the 2 on the other, as a pair of boxers might toss punches. Most fours are upright; their pistons move up and down in a line, thus earning the name "inline" engines.

In this area, Florence SC, I have yet to see either. The interwebz are my only hope. Local scion dealer sold their fr-s to a person from florida. Luckily I got a test drive in before they picked it up.

Saw a white BRZ last week and a orange-ish FRS a month ago.

The BRZ looked great in person.

when i went to the putente hills subaru dealership, they didnt have any. The guy told me when they got their first 4, they were off the lot the same day all with 5k mark ups. He said dealers are getting in total like 10-14/month for now.

Huge fan of the BRZ and FR-S. Handles great stock.

Not all Subaru dealerships are marking up their cars. Avoid the ones that do. Don't fall for dealer markups. Don't overpay for a car like this. It isn't worth it.

Mcdaniels Subaru in Columbia SC has a dark grey brz in stock, no markup. It is premium 6AT. Nice looking car, but I wanted the limited. Salesman said he has heard rumors of an STI version but no details.

From Insideline:
If there's one criticism of the Subaru BRZ that stings, it's that it doesn't have enough power aboard. Back in 2011 Subaru showed a lightweight BRZ STI concept with a tweaked valvetrain that the company said was good for 250 hp. That's up 50 horses over the regular BRZ, but hardly what the Subie hard-core have been hoping for.

Nope. What the enthusiasts really want is a blown Subaru STI with 300 or more hp. And the rumors keep coming in that that's what's actually coming. But don't necessarily expect it to be a turbocharger doing the heaving; there are some whispers out there that say a belt-driven supercharger will take up residence atop the flat-4. You know a blower, like on a Top Fuel dragster.

Yep, I think I can resist the urge to buy one now if THIS is coming.

^Agree...and you can keep the wing, too. But on the upside, if they do go with a blower, you'll more than likely be able to buy it separately.
