^^Yea, but I wouldnt be surprised if an "STI" version with a turbo were in the 30s.

Id rather buy the Scion - though the Subbie looks better - for the ~$24k theyre projecting and put $6k into mods.

Regarding the radio - I noticed that Toyota has a stripped GT86, I kind of hope they offer at least a radio delete option here. I dont want the black bumpers though.

There are other factors that go into it, as the base WRX tranny isnt stout enough to handle a lot of boost.

But if the driveline can handle the power, whats the point? Just to say you paid more?

the BRZ/GT86/FRS comes with prius tyres. It's not a Scion vs. Subbie thing. The car was made with those tyres on purpose to give you more fun factor when hooning.

I understand all of the differences, but the big one (FOR ME) is the drivetrain.

I couldnt care less if it comes with different headlights and a slightly larger hood scoop. But, when I shop different cars, I look at the differences in the drivetrain, brakes, and suspension. You know, stuff that actually makes a difference (once again, FOR ME). Having different seats, a different steering wheel, or a different material on the dash doesnt mean shit to me. That doesnt make the car go faster, it just raises the price for no reason.

I would pay more to get a STi anyday.

Dumping $6k in mods to WRX just don't make sense to me.

But I guess it all depends on what you want to do with a car. Everyone has different preferences.

I can agree with most of what you said (in bold), since my very first comment on the subject was this:

OEM wheels do nothing for me, theyd be gone in a heartbeat or be dedicated snow wheels. But, as I said in my first post, the tranny in the WRX cant hold a lot of power, but I was referring to the BRZ, only using the WRX as an example.

What I meant by that comment was if the base BRZ or FRS/GT86 transmission and differential can handle the power, I can't justify dumping the extra cash into a car with a different badge and more parts that Id end up swapping out anyway (brakes, turbo, intercooler, injectors, wheels, and I know you didnt say it, but seats and steering wheel). Thats just the way I am. Id rather get the cheaper car and replace parts as I break them

But, since Im talking about one car that doesnt exist and one that isnt on the market, this is pure conjecture. If the base cars transmission and differential or even the chassis itself is weaker then its STI counterpart, then Id obviously go for the STI, since swapping those parts could make the initial savings moot.

Exactly. I would never knock someone for going with an AT. But in a car like this, you have to admit that an MT would be a far better choice.

Fun factor is subjective, so the blanket statement of manual = fun is invalid.

Of course, you can still have fun with automatic.

But it's pretty obvious that the fun factor goes up with a manual transmission. There's no doubt about that.

Heres the difference:

An F1 inspired paddle shifted auto can be fun in a high powered sports/super car; a la 458, Aventador, Agera, etc.

I dont see it being as fun in a 200hp compact sports car.

I guess it's a pointless to say one is better than the other since it's completely up to each person's preference.

My wife's B8 A4 Avant with a sport package is pretty damn fun to drive. I took it up to the Big Bear Mountain and drove down the mountain like I wanted to die that day in that canyon. It has ton of torque as well as grip. It's just fun to drive..

Then, I took my car up to the same mountain..... I'll just say my car is fucking fun to drive.

I know I'm comparing two different cars, but really, whenever I drive my wife's car in the city, I always say "god.... should have gotten a 6MT, it would have been much more fun to drive."

lets say its wet you are trying to get some fun out of your small 200hp rwd car.
this 200hp might be not enough to break the rear tires loose in automatic but with manual tranny you can dump the clutch whenever you want and have some real fun... automatics are boring and i would leave it for personal preference... i will drive an AT car someday but not now maybe im still too young ?

After what has seemed like a lengthy buildup, Fuji Heavy Industries – parent company of Subaru – has officially started production of the Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S ( Toyota 86 in other global markets) sport coupes at its Gunma Main Plant in Japan.

Subaru and Toyota joined forces in 2005, but it wasn’t until April of 2008 that the two sides decided to collaborate on a low-budget, rear-wheel drive sports car. The development process of the BRZ and FR-S has seemed drawn out at times – with several different versions of the sports car making their auto show rounds in recent years – but the coupe twins are finally ready for customer deliveries.

“I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the ceaseless efforts of all FHI people and staff who were involved in the development, production and preparations for both models,” Toyota President Akio Toyoda said at the opening ceremony. “The Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86 could not have been successfully developed without collaboration between FHI and Toyota Motor Corp.”

The order books are officially open for the BRZ and FR-S, but Subaru and Toyota have yet to announce U.S. Pricing. However, the BRZ – which will be limited to 6,000 units during its first year of sales – is expected to list from about $25,000, with the FR-S going for a few bucks less.
