Where is my super sauce?
I just got an email from Subaru of America announcing the B9 Tribeca that links to its new website. Looks decent for a SUV/minivan thingy.
H6 3.0 liter Boxer 250HP/219 ft lb torque AWD, 4245 lbs heavy. Seven person seating. Lux/Performance crossover. No pricing info on the site.
Lot of pics and specs.

Isn't $38k for a subie too much?
I am currently looking to by an RX330, and have priced one with navi for 37,500 (the are going below invoice now). Why would someone buy a subie for 38k then?
Expect rebates on the B9x soon...

I got multiple quotes at around invoice, with the lowest at $650 below. They are currently trying to sell more 330 before the 400h comes out.

I agree, think they made a big mistake with the front end. If they wanted upper tier, this was not the way to do it. Legacy was a great start. This new front is similiar to what BMW has done and walked away from.

First Drive: 2006 Subaru B9 Tribeca - - By Frank Markus - - Source: motortrend.com
Don't guffaw, but Subaru thinks it can build a better X5. Really. Your eyes are rolling, but the engineers of this Indiana-built crossover were so sure we'd agree that they let us drive the new B9 Tribeca back-to-back with an X5 3.0i priced about $15,000 higher.
Subaru's six cylinders are arranged horizontally for a lower center of gravity. This 3.0-liter flat-six comes directly out of an Outback and sounds even sweeter than the X5's inline-six. Relative to that sterling mill, it produces an extra 25 horsepower and five-pound-feet of torque. Weighing in at a claimed 4250 pounds, the Scooby's six has 450 fewer pounds to lug around that the Bimmer, giving it a 19 percent advantage in weight-to-power.
Drop the hammer, and the B9 steps off briskly enough to discount Subaru's 8.0-second 0-to-60-mph estimate as at least a half-second conservative. Short gearing in the standard five-speed automatic and an aggressive throttle tip-in would make this a difficult vehicle to place accurately on rocks and other off-road obstacles. But with no low-range or locking differentials, Subaru (like BMW) is content to cede that type of driving to Jeep. Standard AWD and stability control teamed with 8.4 inches of ground clearance should tackle any rough two-track.
A front strut/rear multilink suspension was tuned to closely match the handling dynamics of the BMW, while softening the suspension settings for improved ride quality. Fat 255/55R18 Goodyear Eagles match the size of the X5's sport suspension tires. An hour behind the wheel afforded few twisty sections, but each was threaded with aplomb and minimal body roll. Midcourse steering corrections never were required, but the steering feels a trifle light, and it transmits less road-surface information than a BMW's does. Still, this is an impressively astute road-runner.
Where Subaru clearly trumps BMW is in interior-space efficiency. Stretching just five inches longer on a 2.8-inch-shorter wheelbase the B9 Tribeca fits three rows of seats (a third-row-delete option will be offered). The middle row slides to apportion legroom between rows. Max cargo space with the seats folded flat appears to be much larger than in the BMW. Subaru's new aeronautical, dare we say Alfa-inspired, facade may cause passersby to smirk, but the smiles on a B9 driver's face will be genuine.

Also, it's interesting to see how Subaru chose to go with a relative screamer engine in an SUV. 250HP from an NA 3.0 liter needs some "turning" to come out. Sure enough, it comes at 6600 rpm. Which translates to not much torque for the class (219).

I must say that I thought it looked goofy at first but after seeing it in person I think Subaru is on the right track. It might be a good choice for the wife and kids.

In any case, looks like Subie did well. Interesting question: what if they can turbo this 3.0L 6 cyl w/ relatively good efficiency? Tons of torque (close to 350lb/ft) and even more hp is pretty easily doable, considering what they've done with their 4 banger in the STi.
I know it's a different beast altogether, but god knows Subaru is very familiar with turbos. What better car company than them to try it? And obviously it's not meant to be a Jeep replacement so who cares about the offroad implications?

So I went in today for the first B9 Tribeca techanical trainning today. Overall the car is decent but I must say that the interior is much better build/quality/design compared to the other line ups. A couple "new to subie" modules have been added but nothing fancy or to "WOW" about. For us north of the border, we'll only get 2 models but both will be equipped with the same engine that's currently in the Legacy Outback, the 3.0 H6. But one bad point is again, there will be NO HIDs for both models. Actually, subie Canada is only putting HIDs on the 2006 Forrester XTs. Not even STis!!

2007 Subaru B9 Tribeca Noses Ahead - - by Marty Padgett - - Source: The Car Connection
Met with criticism of the vehicle's front-end styling, Subaru's done a quick nose job on the B9 Tribeca to soften the vehicle's grille. At the same time, the blackout grille and available chrome trim package are teamed with updates to the 2007 model, including newly available satellite radio, power-seat memory function, a revised suspension, a rearview camera on navigation-equipped vehicles, rear parking assist, and a new sensor in the vehicle's stability control system that deploys the curtain airbags in case of a rollover accident. Subaru's also incorporated an auxiliary input so passengers can plug MP3 players into the audio system.
